Apex Quilt Bundle: 2.5 yds M90MR, 2.5 yds M90T, and 2.5 yds 5.0 oz Apex

got a question. I am thinking of doing a diy tq and purchasing the kit from thru-hiker. Does anyone have one and/or advice? I am planning on using 2 layers of 5.0 Apex to get me down to about 22-25 deg.

I use 1 layer of 5.0 to 30 I think 2 would be good to 0 at least.

two layers of 5 oz Apex is HUGE. I made a TQ out of one layer and it should work to around 20*. The only other way I would go is one layer of 5 and one strip of 2.5 right down the middle

That's what I did with my full length "winter" set: 5 ounce for the TQ and ttl 7.5, as above, for the UQ. It worked great in windy and cold weather in New Mexico week before last.

    It's bulky but works.

Does anyone make a removable section that you can just snap or button on the main quilt?

you can get apex 6.0 from here

    http://www.owfinc.com/fabrics.html

i made a single layer uq with it and so far has gotten me to about 35 but know it will go lower, thinking mid 20's for an uq, pry a little lower for a tq with a good uq

Thank you all and I think I will go the route "dangerous" suggested. And that gives me an idea for my uq. if I use all of your inputs, I think I will try 2.5 yds of 5.0 and under that, add strips of 6" wide pcs of 5.0 as if it had baffles. that would reduce some of the bulk and boost temp rating.

If you are going to add strips, make sure they are stabilized to the main piece of Apex, or sewn through the quilt shell. I made a quilt with a main layer and then a smaller strip and it shifted and twisted. I had to open the quilt, reposition the strip and sew it .
