Dutchware Chameleon WIDE Hammock, asymmetrical bug net, stuff sack, red continuous loop at the head end, grey continuous loop at the foot end, shock cord guy-outs....
I made some heavy duty rubber bands by cutting some cross-sections of a bicycle tube. They stretch a lot and are as tough as you'll find. One or two of these (end to end) on each end, and the Wooki...
I've taken my Wooki Scandinavian down to 5 degrees fahrenheit with no problems. That's a ways off of its rating, but it didn't at all feel like cold was even beginning to creep in, if that helps.
I'm interested in the extra foot of width per side available from the Winter Haven, and how necessary or useful it might be. Does your Haven have this extra width?
I'm debating getting a 12' tarp for an 11' hammock, just to have the extra coverage without deploying any doors....in the "just in case it gets windy and/or rainy during the night". I'll still have...
I'm wondering the same thing - and even wondering about a 13' hammock.
I found a slight difference with how the Warbonnet Blackbird lays, due to the footbox, compared to other hammocks. Only slight though. It was the only hammock I've had with two layers, so was less...
I agree. Every account I hear of this tent is that is/was the most comfortable ever, even compared to other 90° tents. I hope somebody gets going on it.
Has anyone used a single exterior pole, located in the middle of the tarp, rather than the typical "two pole" setup. Superior Gear's new tarp has the single setup, and I haven't been able to find...
I use a Therm-a-Rest pillow compressible that has the bits of foam as the filling. I find the inflatable pillows either too bouncy (if inflated near full) or they tend to want to squirt out from...
I use a Nalgene Cantene - the softsided bottle with a wide mouth. I use it both in a hammock and in a tent. It's easy to "slip inside" the wide mouth and not cause any spray or leaks. Packs away...
After all the years of scrambling around in the dirt (in a tent), at 51 it makes it feel so much more inviting to head into the bush knowing it will feel so much cleaner and more elegant while in the...
Would you say that you are a regular or cold/warm sleeper? I'm trying to get a gauge on whether I'll be cold in a Draumr, as I have not had good experiences with staying warm on a pad (on the...
I have owned a Warbonnet Blackbird XLC, a LittleShopOfHammocks Warrior Edge, and a Dutchware Chameleon. I am the same weight as you and all three are comfortable and safe.
What's odd is that I have had more cold nights in a tent than in a hammock - but I believe that is against the norm. I am thinking that I am getting more drafts in my topquilt on the ground, which...
I can agree with this. Unfortunately there is no real way to know for sure unless you actually try the different models and fabrics, and find which you prefer. I do find the vendor information on...
I made over a dozen prototypes of gathered end hammocks almost 25 years ago, trying different lengths, widths, bugnet styles, entry systems, etc. Current cottage makers do everything so well now,...
I agree with this. I'm a very restless sleeper (and am tall as well), and found that staying on the Wooki's insulation was no easy task for me.
Also, what is it like to fill up the pad without using the ground? In a tent, it's easy to do within the tent (and out of the rain). I've never tried using the inflation sacks while standing up and...
This is good to know - I've wondered about getting the Draumr "level" and if that's a fiddly affair. I'm wondering if a very small bubble-level on the ridgeline would help?
Thanks Redoleary - I hope you post your feedback here as well.
This is my question also, as it feels like drafts are the major problem I'm having with a top quilt, whether in the hammock or on the ground. For that reason I am thinking about getting a VERY wide...
How well did your gear all fit into your bags? I too use Apidura gear (but the 17l seat bag), and I find that fitting everything in is the hardest part. Mind you, my gear is rated for 0° (as I'm a...
Another question for those that have used either (or both) the Draumr and the Haven: do either of them feel "fidgety" or tippy in any sense, as a bridge hammock does? I move around a lot in my...
I'm looking for some feedback on how "warm" or "cold" the Draumr sleeps, compared to a gathered end hammock with similar underquilt/underpad temperature ratings. In general I've felt warmer in my...
Has anyone rigged up anti-sway lines with shock cord for a Draumr? I dislike too much swaying. It seems like it would be easy run the lines to the same stakes for the tarp at the head and foot ends?
I'm debating a Simply Light Winter Haven vs a Superfly, just to get the extra 1 foot of width. I have two reasons for this:
1.) The extra width will allow me to pitch the tarp higher, but still...
I haven't had my Zing-It slip in LineLoc 3's, that I've noticed at any rate. I've been in windy conditions but not "heavy" wind. How high of wind speeds are you seeing that causes this slippage? ...
I prefer the Loop Aliens, to the Flyz, simply because there are no sharp edges. I worry that the sharp edges will do some damage when the tarp is in the backpack. The Flyz and other variants do...
Do any of the dyneema tarp colours actually provide shade the way a silpoly or silnylon tarp will?
+1 for lines staying on the tarp. I can use the tarp without stakes (using rocks, trees, roots, etc.).
Have you winter camped with a gathered end hammock? How did the Draumr compare for "overall warmth". I'm a cold sleeper and have had bad luck on pads in a tent, as I almost always get cold. I...
I'd like to bump the previous question, and get some more feedback on the Haven if anybody has some to give.
To go along with the previous question: Is the Haven as easy to get into and out of as a gathered end hammock?
How was the Haven for "moving around in"? I'm a restless sleeper, and go from side to back to the other side constantly. It gets tiring when you can't just roll. I do "all right" in a gathered...
I'm also wondering about getting a gathered end hammock larger than 12 feet long. I think there has to be a point of "diminishing returns"?
Does anybody 6'4" or taller have any feedback on the Amok Draumr XL? I've seen other reports that somebody at 5'8" and somebody else at 5'11" found the normal Draumr (rated to 6'1") to be too small...
The Warrior "Edge" Hammock from LittleShopOfHammocks has a great view.
I'm about to order some Superior gear. I've seen a common theme that the hammocks are outperforming their rating. Hopefully that continues with my gear as I'm a cold sleeper and want all the warmth...
I'm wondering though, do the zippers bother you when you're laying on them?
Having integrated insulation is invaluable for me, even coming from using Warbonnet's Wooki. I'm from Canada, and I've never hammock camped further south than southern Colorado. I've never felt...
I too have problems with cold spots around the edges of a pad. I am restless enough that I fear the pad straps won't do an adequate job, and the Draumr would probably have to be modified to allow...
I am 6'5", 240 pounds, and I use a 64" wide topquilt. It's still not quite wide enough for me, only because I am a restless sleeper. It's only a problem when it is quite cold (near to, or below...
There is also Kluane Mountaineering in Edmonton, AB. http://kluane.ca/
Has anybody had any noise problems with the new Winter version of the Fjol pad?
Did you get your XL and have a chance to try it out? I'm interested to hear more about it.
Has anybody had a malfunction with the Amok Fjol pads? Either in the Draumr or on the ground?
How much longer does it need to be to feel like it fits correctly? I'm 6'5" and going for the XL, and wondering if I might feel the same way as you do in the regular Draumr.
