I never had a ridgeline leak and never worried about it.
But I wanted something like this back in my tenting days. It would have been nice to have a waterproof rainfly without the peeling or...
Already pinkish to start. My yellow is so faded it's almost white.
This stuff will look like the "once-red" 1990 Geo Tracker that the guy never once waxed and always parked outside.
It's like hiking...dress cool to start! I miss being out there already.
I couldn't do the white...or the logo
I bought a lightweight 4x6 green tarp for $0.99 at the discount store and cut it to size. Same weight as Tyvek. I finally freshened up to a new one...
The fans range from about $30-80 or so. I went with a cheap $32 version and it works great. Just moving the heat around a little makes a big difference. Also nice for those who like white noise.
...
Ah thanks! I think we even jokingly said "fleas" at one point. That was pretty much the extent of wildlife out there!
Winter came...and stayed until the end. This was a perfect trip! It was nice spending 5 days in the woods running the DIY stove nonstop. I think I'll pack up the hot tent gear until next winter and...
I had to set 10+ stakes on my hot tent this past trip. I just dig away the snow and set the stake about 1.5-2" deep in the ground. A 9" stake looks silly sticking out, but that's all you need. It...
LOL same here for turkey hunting. Cozy, dry, stealthy...but hire a magician to break it down when you leave.
I'm still waiting for hammocking to get this easy. Some kind of super metal. T1000-ish.

As mentioned those cinch cords on the ends of the UQ can be killer. Most people adjust them until it looks right...which seems logical. But that's before you get in. Your legs will widen that a ton...
Definitely a lot of work but I have it down to a science, so it's pretty smooth setting up. I'm lighting that stove in under an hour after finding my spot.
You you soon realize it's a lot more...
LOL set you up without meaning to! I enjoyed this one Shug. About 20° less than planned...that's a good ol' sneak attack for sure.
A fleece hammock!!?? Sounds extra cozy, but in my home during the winter I'd imagine that would produce enough static electricity to power all of Chicago for a few days.
Buddy, woo. Heading home early due to the "end of the world" snowstorm. I'm going to pop in a frozen pizza for lunch and watch this!
Slow and low. I found big unsplit "rounds" of hardwood to be the best for hot, consistent heat (except for the first few minutes of loading).
Watch out for those dirty greasy Hoosiers!
It doesn't get enough love
Thanks Carver, that happened to be the issue! I bought an adjustment tool and tweaked it. Running great now, much quicker response when pulling the trigger.
I have a small collapsible shovel which is enough to "scrape" the ground 90% clean of snow. Just sort of squat, put the shovel between by feet and throw it to the side. It only takes a few minutes.

Only one more hot tent trip after this (next weekend). It has been a terrific winter so far and I've had some great trips. This one was no exception.
I ran my mouth a bit much in this one...I...
Yeah that's kind of dirty. Best to stick with seasoned hardwoods if possible. Coal if you want to try and melt out the stove floor!!
Palm trees, oranges, kayaking, green grass...I feel like I'm on another planet right now as I pack for tomorrow's trip.
Good times!
Absolutely! A stove is NEVER a replacement for the weather. Pack as you would like any other trip (clothing and quilts). It may be a bit warm settling down at first, but I'll put my TQ on the ground...
Yea with the exception of one video I never really mention it. I know I sound like a selfish jerk but things have just gotten too busy in the past 5 years and that increased exponentially since...
I usually load it up as I lay down and it will burn out in a couple hours. The larger stove I made can burn throughout the night with one stoke halfway through. But you can imagine the temp isn’t...
It's fun, it's cozy, it's can be a lot of work! More stuff to take and more to set up.
I've been doing some videos on my hot tenting; here's the latest with my DIY sink stove and Smokehouse hot...
It's been a while. Good to see you! 88 on the ebike, hammocking, youtubing...I love it!
I know I have good sleeping socks when they sort of "rotate" themselves throughout the night. Kind of annoying, but that's the "right" fit for me = warmth.

Thanks! It worked out great. If it was wider than the toboggan I would have been in trouble, but it's a perfect fit.
I feel like that could be the guy that got pushed out for using the R word.
Same here. Horizontal is "side to side" correct? All my Hammockgear top quilts are like that (they changed them later on). That way I can move some down to the top of my body where I need it. Not...
No I use a Husqvarna Viking Emerald 118 for all my projects. Some people go really light, like 1.6oz you would use on a tarp. But I like something more substantial for the "rough" winter use. It's...
Thanks! It's a Smokehouse Outfitter. I have materials to make my own...sitting on my living room floor. Gotta get motivated to get started on that sometime.
Not the HDPE. It's not milk jug soft. Basically the standard Nalgene threads and bottom, but the overall walls can be squeezed a bit. More so when hot. Nalgenes are the gold standard IMO. If there's...
Dang it! Yes, the first one was straight and this one (with the bend edges for reinforcement) isn't. Same hinge, so I must have just drilled the holes slightly off. But it's "leaning" up on the right...
Yes, I was surprised since someone on another forum seemed to think I made it incorrectly...it's a DIY stove from a frigging sink LOL!!! Don't expect top notch from a hillbilly from Indiana with...
My DIY sink wood stove was a huge success after a test at home, but I needed to get it out and into the hot tent for several days to be sure. Would it fit my new stove jack location? Will it heat the...
I'm not too partial to any brands, but I got the the drill and impact driver at a good price online. The sander is really handy too. Seems like a good brand without spending a ton.
I think we all know that would be a total disaster
I kinda wish the forum charged a dollar for EVERYONE per year, and gave everyone access to all areas. Opposed to $10 for the year for a few to see. This would never happen and the dialogue would...
LOL I somehow missed that one. Never too old for poo talk
I guess it wasn't too bad. I intended on some small clips, but decided to make longer metal pieces.
I was going to use some carbon felt as a gasket for the glass, sort of as a cushion for it, but...
Here's the winduh:

Thanks! Glass window is going in today. Just got to my work bench and realized I'm out of #6 flat pan head screws...no one open on Christmas day! I'm too impatient so I think I'll use some oval head...
I've only used the Rab. I like the thinner material, low profile, flat seams. That's important when jamming a bunch of junk into a boot around your foot. Ouch. You want winter boots slightly...
I love my Rab VB socks.
Always a funny sight when taking them off!

Good call! And their couplers are much nicer and deeper than the ones you'll get at Lowes or HD.
The Nalgene HDPE (labeled UVPE on bottom) is hard to beat. $7.49 for the 32oz. https://www.amazon.com/Nalgene-HDPE-Mouth-Round-Container/dp/B001E6M2W8
It is rated to 248°F while the other common...
