I just put the final touches on a 12'X10' Winter Tarp, following the DIY Gear pattern. I used the 1.1 oz. Woodland camo form DIY Gear as well, simply because I have yet to spot the now almost...
Very nice job, Knotty.
I might have to redo mine with the grosgrain loops like that.
This is exactly how I did the end caps for my bridge hammock and it worked fairly well.

The whole hammock is far from perfect, but it's exceptionally roomy and very,...
And I can do that when I stake it out to dry it.... that's why I was thinking of putting little pieces of wax paper in there to keep them apart while drying.
Great name, Scotty! LOL!
That was kind of my thinking too, but since this is my first time doing the waterproofing, I figured I'd turn to the brain-trust of experience here before making what...
So I have pretty much completed a 12'x9' Winter Tarp. All I have left to do is attach the 8 bug mesh guyline pockets and do my waterproofing.
I am planning on mixing a batch of 100% Silicone and...
Oh I will. Once I finish my tarp, I'm going to start taking some pictures and documenting it. That way if it comes together fairly well, others can take what I've done and improve upon it.
There...
Stevebo, you are most awesome! This is the kind of information that will make this project a success.
This explains a lot. And I was just going to sew 6 pockets on the bottom. Silly me!
...
I got ya, I think. Do the pockets as their own layer, which is added to the hammock ONLY by sewing it to the sides. YES!
Great tip, Ghillieshot! I was going to do each one individually and sew the...
The z-liner will be a future project. I'll do a bit of research and make my decision after I even remotely duplicate an NX-250. I did begin my 12'X9' winter tarp, which is hanging right behind me....
I go up Mt. Lemmon. I hit a few of the car-camping spots, and then I also have a number of "stealth" spots I use pretty regular. Problem is I'm a little banged up from a motorsickle wreck and can get...
It's a lot of money to reverse engineer something.
I've been studying theses things for a while now... and although I know I won't be able to reproduce it exactly, perhaps not even close, but...
Yeah, I read that thread last week, I think it was. The advice given in that post is to buy one, because there's noting like it.
From where I sit, I can count 3 hammocks, a camo HH clone, a MAPAT...
Also good advice. I like the patent idea. That's a good one.
Good advice...
I had the cash in hand and the Clark website staring me I the face and I froze. I was looking at close to $700 for a NX-250, a Vertex Tarp, and their freshly redesigned Z-Liner.
$700.
That is a...
I'll always take the bigger tarp with more coverage... and I've never been rained on, even in the monsoons. I like a tarp that goes up quickly, and shifts from mode to mode quickly and easily, i.e....
How can I tell?
It really is great stuff...and fun to work with. I got a hundred feet from Seattle Marine (the 7/64s is .15 cents a foot!!!) and went to town. I even made a little Whoopie Sling just to sit and...
That's the way to do it.... Now just keep on making those sacks and when you're confident enough, try the long seams of a hammock.
I love this stuff. I eat with it, drink with it, sleep with it, sit on it.... and keep the sun from destroying my dashboard too!
Nice work!
I'm also having issues with installing a bug net. I'm a little intimidated by the thought of sewing a zipper all the way around my hammock... TWICE becuae I also want to install a weather shield. I'm...
Dude... your signature made me LOL!
Surely it is a joke, right?
Hikingdad... this is awesome! Thanks much for all the effort you put into making this video and helping people like myself who have been vapor-locked on this particular matter for weeks now.
...
Very cool. I'm usually not a pillow guy, but if I make one of these a bit smaller... in a camo or OD fleece... I might just become one.
And I'm still waiting.
If i buy it now, the wife will be none too happy about it. But I will have a place to sleep.
Patience... All good things to those who wait.
I seem to remember my Hennessy Typhoon was right around $80 when I bought it about 6 months ago.
Normally, I DIY just about all my own gear, but once I saw this thing I just had to buy it.At...
It's tricky to do... but my edges look similar to what you're describing. I used a ton of pins and sewed it slowly and carefully.
I had the hardest time with the catenary cuts on the sides. I wound up taping some paper to the wall and using some cordage to plot my curve, then I transfered that to the floor and made my cuts.
...
I kind of mixed and matched from several different builders...and added a few things on my own. Mostly on how I made the end caps and the actual suspension points. I was looking to improve upon them...
These things sort of look like Clark's new Z-Liner.... only much, much suckier.
Clark has just introduced a whole new concept in their Z-Liner insulation. Gone are the individual pads that velcro into the under-pockets. They have been replaced but this:

Yes sir. And thank you! I plan on having a full-length bug net riding on an adjustable ridge-line, which will be stored in one end pocket, and an over-cover housed in the other end. It gets hot here...
Thanks!
I really like the organizer too! You can't see it in the picture, but I take a piece of 1/4" rubber hose and thread a piece of paracord through the eye of the zipper tab, then feed it...
Thank you, guys... And I have to agree: there is nothing quite like utilizing something you created successfully. Because I sure have had my share of failures!
Rather than highjack someone else's thread, I figured I'd start a new one on my hammock...

First, big thanks to all you guys who post the information to make this stuff. I hope I can return the favor.
After making a whole butt-load of very cool gathered-end hammocks, I decided to try my...
I'll get some pictures tomorrow out in the yard, as I need to test out a few adjustments I made. My spreader bars are: The head is 40" and the foot is 26".
Thanks for motivating me to take some...
...on my friend and neighbor to buy this trailer from me... which I will promptly take that money and buy a camo NX 250. I've been eyeing this hammock for months now, and have nearly pulled the...
I learned how to use the bottle after I had my motorsickle crash and was laid up for a couple months, so to me it's not a big deal. In fact, I have a special blue bottle that is a permanent fixture...
I would really suggest trying a bridge hammock a try. It's an entirely different lay. I spent many nights in my DIY gathered end hammocks, (which certainly don't compare with a WBBB) and always wake...
Mine too. I can lean over and out and pick something up off the ground without any worries about tipping over. But there are sooo many variables that can effect the hammock's stability.
The only negative I can give you about my DIY bridge is carrying the extra weight of the poles.
I patterned my first DIY bridge hammock after the a cross between a Jacks R Better 'Bear Mountain Bridge Hammock' (BMBH) and a Warbonnet Ridgrunner.... and I am delighted with it! Especially with m...
It all began when I purchased a $35 Rothco Jungle hammock. I was a total n00b but eager to play with my new toy so I hit the mountain. My first night was terrible, having fallen out of the hammock 3...
I made my first (and so far only) bridge hammock about a month ago. And after making and testing 3 other very cool gathered-end hammocks, the bridge has become my go-to for two reasons: comfort and...
I made my first set of whoopies 8' and found them just a tad too long. The next set was six foot... and I've stuck with that for each addition set there after. It seems to be a comfortable length,...
I just completed a hammock for a friend this morning and I got to thinking about adding a ridge line to my next one... which I will begin tomorrow. So far, I haven't seen any real cons to having a...
I did this about a month ago with an old Coleman bag I had had for years. I just gathered the corners and tied them with about a three foot length of 550, at the head and at the foot, then I used...
