This is a great idea. You can take advantage of the smaller runs that they offer on outdoor ink products (half-width, quarter, etc) so it doesn't have to be gigantic.

gonna hate myself for mentioning this, but if you have the spare time go ahead and make a version of the tiger stripes with orange as the base background color and purple stripes with white edging. ...
Looks great! I'm digging that color combination. Would be great for an afternoon nap on st. patrick's day.
Depending on what kind of line you're using for your tarp you may still find a use for it :)
Don't worry, I too was hit with the "shiny, fancy new gear" bug when I saw a couple hanging near the...
I've wondered why nobody mentions NHO (Nature's Hangout) on here and suspected it was just a bias against Amazon vendors in general. I've bought daisy chain straps from them a little over a year...
I don't see why it wouldn't work, but you could probably also just pick up a 2nd layer or ripstop for fairly cheap and have it be a lot lighter. I do like the idea of making the woobie warmer, it...
I would stick with the ENO straps for now and use a dedicated ridge line for the tarp. Trying to get everything onto one suspension is doable but tricky. I started out just using thick braided poly...
Are you talking about the $10 straps or the $25 daisy chains?
Add this to the list of bad set ups:141661
I've seen about a dozen knock-off daisy chain loops on amazon. I got the "Nature's Hang...
The Mizzou fans would probably buy them up in droves. Just don't go crazy an start mixing purple and orange...
Looks great!
I feel like if I stare at those images long enough I will finally see that 3D sailboat... or was it a coffee mug?
very elegant - I might have to incorporate this setup with my next gear purchase.
As others have mentioned, it's overkill for tie outs. I use it for my adjustable ridgeline, though really no need to make it adjustable other than I just like to splice it.
Plenty of fun uses for...
Nice views. When I read "hanging in the oaks" for some reason my mind jumped to gigantic live oaks... forgetting about the stunted black jacks and other species. I might be nerding out a bit on...
Throw in an air mattress. Maybe even two and stack them.
Probably one of the few benefits to tent camping that a hammock just can't match :)
In all seriousness I ended up making at least one...
I thought hanging up next to the river would make for a nice breeze during the hot summer night and the gentle rushing of the water around the rocks would help me sleep.
What I did not count on...
Nice! Been waiting (im)patiently for some news on the Hyper D front.
Will you guys be restocking the XL line anytime soon? Sorry to keep pestering but the holidays are approaching and I need...
I'm not as familiar with the MSH but I like the fact that the alpine butterfly supposedly doesn't cut much if any of the rated strength of the rope. I'll use a heavy nylon rope to walk my dogs in...
Would be nice to go without it but I swatted 3 mosquitoes on my leg in 10 minutes watering the plants yesterday and killed another 2 in the house that have been tormenting my son...
I think...
I knitted a wool blanket for my house - ended up weighing >4lbs and packs down to the size of a large backpack... cost me >$100 in yarn, too.
Warm, comfy, but waaaaay to heavy/bulky to take...
Dublinlin's got it straighten out. I use the huggers for my tarp suspension and a different brand of straps for my hammock suspension (they've got lots of loops)
my green was extremely stiff - not necessarily a problem, but noticeably more stiff than any amsteel I've worked with.
The shock cord isn't super necessary. I wouldn't worry about upgrading beyond what you've got. If the cord lock is slipping you could try putting a knot behind it.
I ridgeline should help tremendously (either underneath to support the entire length, or over top with it tied taut).
I think you may have still had a little sag, though, as those trees look like...
Indeed, very excited. (crossing fingers for an XL version)
It's interesting to see someone testing these metrics at full scale. Using a tensile test and reading from the stress-strain curve can help, if you have access to that sort of equipment.

Hi, looking for a bit of advise from those who've been doing this for a lot longer than I have.
How do you guys/gals pack down your synthetic under quilts? I've heard that it's a bad idea to...
The fallen leaves pattern looks amazing. I look forward to seeing it in a green - "spring/summer" pattern as well.
Looks great!
Count me in for some more dark olive or grey HDXL when it comes back in.
By any chance would that be XL custom printed poly? 'Cause that would be pretty epic.
I really like those patterns!
When I put together my two apex UQs I noticed a few things too.
1 - the wider the channel the better. I'm sure there's a point where it's too wide but I haven't...
I see what you mean. A long time ago I had a bedset with a bamboo forest on the sheets. It would make for a great hammock pattern but I'm not sure how they handled the repeating aspect of it.
...
I got the joke :P
I also really enjoy my XL hammock. I started with 72" but must have really out did the hems because it's well south of 70" - probably closer to 68" finished. I also started...
I really like the green version. Something similar with repeating bamboo or river cane would look really neat too.
The cliparty leaves are nice, but I would also be interested in what more...
I have made that hike only once before. I started around mid afternoon and we ended up having to jog in order to get back to the car before they closed the gates. Next time I want to take it easy...
Hi,
I noticed you're sold out of a couple colors (oddly enough, the two I've worked with before) and are down to just black, brown, and green.
I know you've got a lot going on now with the new...
I like the color combo - went with royal blue and lime green for my wife's under quite. How does the Moroccan blue compare to royal blue?
I want to make a set up for my brother in navy/gold if...
I used two pieces of 2.5 oz and cut the insulation a little shorter than the inner and outer covers. I didn't really worry about pleating or accounting for compression - I did it so that I could...
And now I'm gonna have to make my cat a hammock too.
The one who ventures outside during the day (and sleeps on my legs all night) will occasionally hop on my chest when I hang in the backyard...
I like where this is going.
In the vein of cameo/floral prints maybe something that's more along the lines of bamboo or reeds?
I just finished a double layer with 2 x 2.5 oz of climashield. I had debated about a differential cut, but in putting it together I decided against it. When I was pinning everything together I...
I like the whipped method because I feel more secure, but that's probably just a misconception. I don't ever envision the fabric ripping entirely at once, nor the knot slipping off the end. I'm...
You could also try using the klemheist knot instead of a prussik.
Here is my first attempt at making a hammock - constructed with the dark olive HyperD XL

I have to say the comfort blows away any store-bought hammock I've tried to date. That...
I found the PLUQ (with added insulation) to be a bit too heavy for the 1/8th shock cord I had. Even with the corners prussiked to the suspension, it would sag a bit in the middle (not nearly as much...
I believe so. My only previous experience with an UQ was with a heavy poncho liner and I never had a problem with drafts (it was also summer). I saw it mentioned in another UQ thread, and it seemed...
Nice quilt, especially for your first project! Looks almost exactly like the one I put together over the weekend (same cameo pattern, 5 oz climashield, coyote brown interior).
Your channels look...
This is basically what I did without knowing any better (ie, before I found this website and the wealth of information on it). I had a poncho liner and initially tried to add insulation by using a...
Thanks, I value any opinions I can get :)
I'm still pretty new to all of this. I have been using a no-sew PLUQ with a home made insert I constructed from an old bed sheet doubled over with sewn...
In looking over the downlinens website, the 600 FP down is significantly cheaper than the higher FP options. Is there is good reason to go for higher fill power just to save a couple ounces (in what...
coax copper cable worked very well for me with 7/64 amsteel - but stripping it was a huge PITA. I also used a plastic knitting needle, but found that the eye of the needle was a bit wide.
