Awesome set up!
Thanks. I may delete the thread. No interest it seems. Thanks for the info.
Inov-8 Roclite shoes for sale. Size 9.5. Only wore for 1 workout hike and 1 7 mile trip. I’m having to go back to boots for backpacking due to foot problems. So these need to go to someone that will...
Pretty easy solution though to keep the outside “outside”
Plus. Pre sleep and post sleep just unzip and open up hammock some.
I think it is the outer moisture problem.
Ha ha. Bam! Told yah. Have to keep a slightly warmer climate so the air moisture stays outside your little ecosystem and can’t collect inside of it. It will collect where the cold air meets the...
Adding an UQP for me meant the largest tarp I’ll ever need is the Thunderfly. I really found the narrow width of the Mini and Thunder over the other options made it much easier to fit my mountain...

You should be able to guess pretty close. They have a lot of detail pictures and measurements.
Oh fit sure. Another reason I keep my shoes up off the ground :)
I’ve had water come in under me a few times but being in a hammock it was more humorous than a real problem. Just where I’m standing in picture is a tent spot. It is one of the designated locations...
Man I love a hammock for the south east! Hard not to be comfortable and enjoy a spot like this. I don’t get out as much as I’d like but I wanted to share the setup.
Warbonnet Thunderfly tarp...
Also an example of the climate causing condensation and not you is when I take guns inside or outside when it is drastic temp changes they become very wet and need wiped down. The gun isn’t producing...
Bug net is easiest to try. Makes since what he said about temps causing it vs your moisture. Heat rises so you have more eat at lower portion of you since footbox is higher.
That sort of explains why I have noticed when I use my bug net in winter my exterior materials get damp and inside bug netting does not. Cold yes but not damp.
Good examples of how moisture from atmosphere will in fact cause water to condense on objects.
I still assume when your body heats up the quilt it has moisture in it. If the moisture couldn’t reach the outside you would be insulated enough by the vaper barrier to not need the quilt. So I...
Maybe someone smarter than myself can answer. As I reviewed info online condensation occurs from the bumping up of 2 climates. That’s the simple example.
You have to remember. Even with the vaper barrier you are heating up the quilt. So that is warm air. When cold moist air from the outside hits the warm air it will cause condensation of the...
He tried a vaper barrier at one point. So to me that is also the best solution. Unless you have something around you as a barrier for outside climate.
I don’t think the down is getting wet. If so I don’t think you could have dried it that quickly. It may just be a sensation of dampness. Maybe get some pictures?
Bugnet still allows a breeze to come through but about 40% less so to me it’s just enough protection to make unzipping noticeably cooler temp and I enjoy the bump down in cool air across my exposed...
Net gives you a warm climate. Any condensation will be when that Warm climate touched the cold air Which is way away from you. Without the exterior climate around you you bring that cold climate in...
Bivy idea is a great idea to try BillyBob. Finding the right solution will take some time and experimentation. Will be interesting to see how the sheet works to see if it can shed some light on the...
Not to beat a dead horse but it’s sort of like saying your ice maker is broken because the door is cracked and it’s leaking melted ice. You can replace the ice maker and still have the same result if...
I think enclosing yourself in a climate is the way to figure it out. Without that you don’t know the cause. Even if it’s an 1 evening exercise. Maybe I’m just thinking about it all wrong but...
I’m really interested in the sheet idea too. But the problem with the result will be.....
Yes - no problems and nothing wet (why? Was it the sheet or something else)
Or
No- the sheet got wet too...
I still think the cold air is hitting your warmth and condensation happens. I’d try the bug net but then I do keep suggesting that to make sure that that could be a simple option. A sheet seems like...
Did you ever try the bugnet to keep atmosphere out?
Or Post Test?
Good luck. Another idea to see what is going on is take some binder clips and clip your rain jacket to the foot area of your hammock. See if this prevents the atmosphere from settling on your foot...
Okay. But for something to change something has to change.
Just my advise for why I never worry about the weather coming in and laying on my top quilts. With out it any dog and misfire has a wide...
Use bug net. I’m telling you it will teach you something :)
If that’s the solution it will give you answers either way. Maybe it isn’t but I know for me it is working. Only had 1 night of the moisture rolling in on me from fog and I haven’t gone netless...
Try zipping a bug net. You won’t know unless you try it. For something to change something has to change. That’s the 1 thing I would try for sure.
But it does help at least. Better than having no protection like a net less setup.
My bug netting has mitigated fog coming in on me to the degree that it hasn’t been an issue like it was without it. I now use bug netting all year round. Does a good job keeping a slight breeze from...
I suspect it would have been close enough to you it wouldn’t have frozen. Anything under me has always frozen so I expected the shelf water to do the same thing. I was very surprised.
Point is...
Even with a vaper barrier you will create a warm climate around you. When the cold and moist atmosphere bumps up to your warm climate caused by body heat you will get frost. No different than attic...
Makes since to me Billy Bob. A semi controlled inner climate is what your after. Going netless in cold temps made me realize I prefer nets year round. Just cuts wind and colder outside air from...
Try it. You will he surprised. The moisture will turn into frost outside the bugnet. It won’t be captured in the net like you think. I’m always dry as a bone inside the bugnet area. So is my buddy...
Curious what a bug net tonight would show.
I still think if you used a bug net you would find this is drastically reduced. The bug bet will cause a slightly warmer interior so the frost will be outside that area where the most cold...
It also looks like it is on the hammock itself.
Feeling wet and being wet are always 2 different things. I still think since the vapor barrier was used it is breath moisture. Add in environmental moisture and you will think it’s wet. Doubt the...
Taking thunderfly and uqp out this weekend. Need added wind protection with lows in the 20’s. The worst rain storms I’ve been in I used an edge tarp and itched extremely low and steep a frame and was...
What is the quilt shell material? 10D?
From my experience atmosphere around you has tons of moisture when we don’t think it does. Any fog, mist or anything passing through collects on things. My bug net is what I have used in winter to...
Try using bug net next time. I’m curious if that would help.
That’s what I was thinking was the actual case of it showing in colder surfaces which is why I asked. Seems opposite from what I’d think should happen.
