lonetracker, What a great suggestion. That is exactly what I would have recommended. Thank you.
otter1's suggestion of a pillow between the knees also helps me greatly.

Hello, HalfShark welcome back. It is a little quieter around here but most of the hellraisers have left. IMO none of the true hammock hangers have. Even most of the DIY guys are still here just a bit...
The original question was "Is hammock camping as popular as it was 5-10 years ago?" TominMN unless you just wanted to read 7 pages of YES and NO
I think the discussion here is on topic. It shows...
Shug, as the main Hammock Forums admin for our Facebook page I will agree. It is faster and quicker. Good in some ways but bad in others like DIY. The forum layout is fare better for the DIYer. The...
Karla with a K what exactly would you want us to change?
Our forum is a vBulletin Skins by Bluepearl Skins.
We don't get to change much. Give us some example and we will forward them to vBulletin...
I have always preferred my UQ to be warmer than my TQ. One can always put on a sweater or coat and a stocking hat and gloves.
But if your backside is cold there is nothing you can do but suffer...

Wow, never realized squeaking hammock was such an issue that someone made a website to address it. That is just crazy.
OP I believe your squeak is coming from that metal frame and not your...
Can you get an Eldorado in an 11' hammock? If so 55 bucks for a shelf is steep. If the Eldorado is only a 10' hammock like the original was.
Then spend the extra 55 bucks. Not for the shelf but for...
I've been hammock camping since 1970 and have never once had to go to ground. Proper planning is everything. The right equipment is everything.
In Colorado above treeline is lightning territory...
Hi Ben I think you have everything you need to get started. Everyone has different needs when they hammock camp. You are only going to find out yours by getting out there even if you just start in...
For me, a little more sag allows me a flatter lay when lying diagonally. This also eliminates any calf ridge pressure on my inside leg.
I've never measured but I would guess my tree strap angles...
That just applies to lengthening the SRL on a bug netted or covered hammock. You can go as short as you want with no damage. The net will just saga little in places.
I have never had success with the 83% I have always needed more sag to eliminate calf ridge heal pressure and shoulder squeeze. Moving to an 11' hammock also made life better.
I have also never had...
OP you might want to try increasing the hammock tree strap angle to more like 35 degrees. You should notice a pretty good sag in your built-in Ridgeline.
Doing this on all my gathered end hammocks...
Saltfly, A ridgerunner is a camping cot without legs suspended between two trees. Does it work yes.
Is it old-school hammock camping? Not even close. 188049
Hi Ken, I grew up in Northern Alabama with the Scouts. You are a bit North of me. We both get snow and the real killer is Southern humidity.
I live in Colorado now. When someone says it's a dry...
I can't believe this thread is still alive? Is the OP?
This thread was started in 2014 and I have not seen the op since his first post.
Did all of us offering suggestions and advice just waste...
This would be my suggestion as well. 6" of hammock material at each end should be very easy to compensate.
I met Grant in 2011 and hammock camped with him several times. Great guy, smart, always willing to help.
I wished I had a better picture, I probably do somewhere. This picture was taken on the 2011...
I had a custom made 12x14 tarp built by a vendor who advertised here. He is no longer in business. 12' ridgeline with 7' walls. This allowed me at 5'9" to stand upright and not be humped over.
I...
Phantom Grappler, Have no worries. We are all getting older and forum tech can be daunting.
Just know you have mods here, probably older than you, haha, that can put your post in the right forum...
I have not seen Allen post since 2017.
I don't know if he is still with us but his HammockForum folder will still be here.
IMO he brought so much innovation to our hobby and many of us still use...
Quest is a very good vendor IMO. They sell some very nice custom tent poles and accessories. I used them for my custom winter heated tarp supports.187161
tomykay12, the for sale folder was quite a task for the forum mods. Many were here just to buy crap at the local yard sale and dump it here and the mods, who volunteer their time, had to clean it all...
Ha Ha you are close. A 5 dollar fishnet hammock could be bought everywhere, a camping insolite closed cell foam pad was 10 buck an a blue 10x10tarp was about 9 bucks. That is where I started. Way...
Grant has the silver down jacket on.
Wow, I never thought I would leave an impression on someone I consider a "Who said of the Greatest Magnitude" when it came to Hammocks, our forum, and our...

IMO if your back is not warm there is nothing you can do to get warm. There are lots of tricks to supplement your top insulation. Like the hot water bottle trick is one of the best.

I like rolling then sliding in snake skins vs stuffing or folding for long term storage. Clean and dry is a given.
What a great video. So much more enjoyable than primetime TV these days.
Anyone who has shot outdoor adventure videos knows the amount of extra work you did just for us. Thank you.

It is always fun to see someone doing something different with their hammock hobby. Great job pdxhanger
I did the same. Swapped out to a course line no slippage since.
A breathable UQP can really help an UQ's suspension keep the quilt up against you. As a side sleeper, I would stay away from UQ's with lay on your back leg shelf.
With proper packing and setting up...

Thanks for your post. I have never put it into words but you did and I agree completely.
For an extra 5-10 degrees what about the hot water bottle trick?
Fill your two quart water bottles with boiling water and stuff in a thick hiking sock.
No additional weight either. Warm socks and...
I have an 11' Darien with top wind cover. All of my UQ's from different vendors fit perfectly. 184612
