I find that hanging over a lot of greenery can make condensation worse. If I'm forced to I try to pitch so that I get a lot of airflow

You can download an app on your phone and get jeffs maps on it. It'll show you exactly where you are on the trail. I found it very helpful.
Don't push yourself too hard especially if you're...
To make the UQ is nothing. Just sew grosgrain channels along all 4 sides and run shock chord. Probably add a secondary suspension too and done.
I bought 2 of these last year and combined them...
I'm not sure if it's as much of a problem in the US as it is in Canada but we have had an infestation of Emerald Ash borers (to the point that you aren't allowed to bring outside wood into provincial...
I'll tell you what I use. I find it pretty fool proof. I have a small S-biner clipped to either end of my tarp Ridgeline. I have 35 feet of zing it for my Ridgeline. One end I have a small fixed eye...
I went over to a friends house who just happened to have a couple of these and they were actually pretty comfortable. I know you can get them on Alibaba for like 28$.
I thought these weighed like...
I would just loop the Kevlar strap around the tree then use a Marlin spike hitch to hang from the continuous loops that my hammocks are cinched with.
So yes that's a totally viable option
...
If you work it out (I did cause I'm bored at work) and include 2 aluminum loop aliens then the Kevlar is still lightly less than 8grams heavier. (Probably less because I only figured in 6"extra per...
You mean like an Amsteel dog bone? Wouldn't that just defeat all adjustability?

I never get around to making pretty toggles. I just use sticks off the ground like a peasant haha!

So o came across this company that seems to be selling super affordable basic set ups.
11foot hammock (rip stop) with 11foot tree straps and cinch buckle suspensions on Amsteel. Everything you...
I always wonder why ppl use Kevlar huggers then whoopies when this is so much simpler and lighter when everything is said and done? I've been thinking about switching to this for so long and I think...
Trees are so far apart you'd have to climb the tree to get a 30* angle.
Trees closer together
Hang and pitch lower to help with rain. Also make sure you have water breaks on your suspension so...
Maybe try mesh snake skins? That seems to be the standard go-to for most people as it allows your tarp to be packed and dry at the same tine

I hope it took a month because you were on trail so often!! It's hard work but Simone's gotta do it!

I really appreciate guys like you. Who not only make the gear but take the time to make a finished video with music and time lapse! Excellent job
I especially like the explaination of the felled...

I will admit that I do use whoopie hooks but I think that being in Canada makes constant orders cost prohibitive enough that I'm an "occasional user" when the cool kids are around rather than a full...
I use a continuous Ridgeline with a soft shackle prussic on one end. It's easy and it works and I avoid becoming addicted to Dutchware (the main positive)

Water weighs 1g/mL, that's 1000g/L, that's 1kg/L, that's 1000L/cubic meter, that's 2200lbs/cubic meter (in American) isn't the metric system easy?!

Unless you're using insanely wide webbing to hang that from trees then you're hurting them under that kind of load. I wouldn't hang in that unless it was from a redwood!

This really depends what gear you have already. You could get by with ccf pads in the hammocks until underquilts are an option.
Dutch 11footers, fronkey bug nets, whoopie slings with spreader bar...
You provided a solution and other members chimed in as to why it's not a viable/responsible solution for the OP's situation. You don't have to take it as a personal attack, everyone is just trying...
Now all I need is DIY skills! ....oh and a girlfriend to hang next to

You may want to check out www.littleshopofhammocks.com he's one of the Canadian members on here who makes products in Canada and ships them for a flat rate. He also makes UQ's and his lead times are...
I think my next purchase will be a 0* set. I would love a summer set to lighten my load over the 20* 3/4 UQ and DIY TQ I use now. But I'm starting an outdoor adventure course in northern Ontario soon...
I started out with whoopies. But the problem with whoopies is you still need tree huggers. Straps are essentially elongated tree huggers and are idiot proof. I've switched to using whoopies in the...
I agree. This is an obscene amount of money to rent space on a river when there's so many beautiful places to hang for free
Also the hammocks are spreader bar hammocks. Ew.
I won't be able to make it to Algonquin this spring but to anyone heading out please remember it's blackly season and they're out in FORCE due to the mild winter. I went for a weekend in Frontenac...
I'll bite. I have no idea how this will turn out
1# - 003300
2# - 00b300
3# - 4d0000
4# - cccccc

I would prefer my baffles running the length of my body rather than the width. I feel like with horizontal baffles would have a tendency to collect down near the bottom due to gravity leaving you...
Wait your hammock is 2 inches longer than your total height? You may want to look into getting a longer hammock so you can get a diagonal lay, which will be flatter and help with neck pain. I'd say...
Thank you for the information! I think since you were going to tackle both the TQ and the UQ you definitely saved yourself some real money in the long run. I DIY my gear because I like to not...
For your UQ you could try shortening the primary suspension a few inches at the head end. It'll help keep it above shoulder and it holds the UQ tighter to the bottom of the hammock. Many people...
This is an excellent resource for anyone thinking about doing an UQ! Did you do one for the TQ as well?
Also total cost of materials would be helpful (if that's something you want to disclose)

I actually just pulled the trigger on a VC60 I found on sale! I appreciate the offer though!
I'm not sure what you're planning on doing with the zippers (full zip half zip etc) but for a 12 footer you could come in around 11-12 oz with CLs and Ridgeline. You'll be plenty under 20oz for sure
I literally want this exact quilt. I got a green/grey colour theme going with my gear [emoji16]
You can span 20-25 feet. You just have to hang the straps around the tree higher. Since you're planning to leave them on there you can just use a ladder to put them up and leave them.
I would use...
Have been lightening my load and am looking to lighten my pack as well. Looking for sizes fitting 21" torso and 34" waist (usually L and M respectively). Must be in reasonable shape with no...
Check out some of the enlightened equipment quilts. I'm sure you could make a TQ from them work as an UQ or visa versa
I'll take seconds on the Mariposa if that sale falls through. If you can negotiate shipping to Canada
I do not own one. But they get pretty well spoken of for the price. The coverage isn't gonna be optimal considering it's a square tarp. Since you're in an xlc that could be a problem. But at ~$40...
Try hanging your foot end a bit higher to stop a slight hyper extension in the knee. I find that even with a small hyperextension I get soreness in the back of my knee after a few hours
Nice! I've been looking into getting one of these kits for a while. Holding off and hoping the Canadian dollar gets a bit better before I pick one up.
Plus I just bought new trail runners and a...
Got a snakeskin "kit" from Dutch and finally got around to sewing it up!
This project is super easy and a good way to save money if you don't want to buy them already made.

I obviously don't know for sure but I would suspect the 6oz weight savings AND the fact that the tadpole packs down to almost nothing. Like softball size without compression
Awesome thank you! Tarp looks proper good!
At first I thought 23oz was a little high for the membrane but with the stakes that totally makes sense
I have an 11foot standard width and get a pretty flat lay in mine. And I'm 4" taller than you. I'd go 11'
I have way too many questions here. I'm thinking of making my own so bare with me
Did you work off of the winter 12 template on RSBTR?
Did you do the cat cuts for looks/weight savings? Since...
