I'm 5'9" and have a foot and head knotty mod on a Dutch 11' and I like it. Makes my hammock feel more like a cocoon and I think helps my poncho liner stay in place under me.

I second the balaclava on the face, thats just about the only part of me that gets cold. Hats are great too.
Yes! Michigan!
Just checked it out, kind of neat. Seems like it's mostly a tarp and perhaps if the goal was just to hang out the hammock set up would be fine.
Howdy partner!
It's the way to go, yes.
I just picked some up at my local Ace Hardware, its not from Dutch but its shock cord and works just fine.
Stay sober.

It sounds like we had similar weekends! I hiked a bit of the NCT here in Michigan and in just 10 or so miles I saw drastically different landscapes. From open fields to forests, from beaver dams to...
Well the beer wasn't ice cold but my 'Willpower' from Right Brain Brewery was a great refreshment after camp got set up. I was very pleased with my knotty mods and stayed warm with the reflectix...
Those platforms look nice for ground dwellers! Is that a bottle of wine I see?
Hitting the North Country Trail again this weekend! Trying out my DIY 'knotty' mod, I did foot side right and head side left in the field. Looking like a chance of rain in the forecast so perhaps I...
Im surprised your ridgeline is able to hold that tire swing like that!;)
I think danner is looking for advice on the hammock he already owns. Not everyone has the funds to just buy a new hammock.
I picked up the tadpole tarp from wilderness logics for my first hang. I haven't been out in inclement weather yet with it but seems like great quality at a good price around $100. like you I am just...
But maybe it is possible that you would make 100 of something? Even if it were 75 of something it would be cool!
Looks like you need to plant some trees!
Thats a great hike, did it last month with my brother. Expect a lot of people if you are headed out on a weekend. MichiganDave pretty accurately described what to expect. If you are looking to...
Got any pics of that tarp? Did you get to use it in door mode with the nice weather and all?
Sounds like you are hooked my friend! I just tested out the Friskies cat can stove this past weekend. Easy DIY, lightweight, simple and reliable.

My wife and I did an out and back along the North Country Trail. My wife stayed in the tent with our dog while I tested my new gear. Slept in a Dutch 11' hammock wrapped in a no sew poncho...
 Fantastic post my friend! A lot of wisdom contained here.
That's a good looking camp right there.
Love that you included the topo! Snap some pics of the waterfall?
Anyone hitting the trail/woods this weekend? Where are you going and how many miles? Who is going along with you? Are you testing out any new equipment or bringing any unique luxuries?
I'm...

You should PM Matthew, he seems pretty active on the forums.
Okay so someone already made the camo joke? I showed up to late!
Nice set up!
Hey there, any shots of your DIY rig?
My first hang we brought the hammocks to just chill in and were not really anticipating to sleep in them. The second night out we did sleep in them. Luckily there was no rain as I did not have a...
 Thanks Marty! I was trying not to pester! Cant wait to field test that bad boy!
Whoa! Douse the light Rudolf!
I feel like Im waiting for Santa but he doesn't care if I've been good, only if I have the cash! Really pumped because I have read some great reviews!
I like that olive on olive look! Has an older military/army look to it. I bet it's easy on the eyes when you take it out in the woods, blends in well. Nice hang!
I think it's just kind of floating there!
That's all I was looking for... I didn't contact the vendor because I figured they get that question all the time and someone already started a thread titled 'tadpole delivery times'.
Does anyone know if the tarps are already made or are they made to order? Last Friday I ordered one, received a receipt but have not received notice that its been shipped. Most other online orders...
Looks like our weather is about to turn for the better! Next couple of weeks have some sunshine and 60* days!
I'm just getting my kit together after switching from tent camping. Beyond a better nights sleep I think there are more reasons for hammocking. First and foremost is that it's just fun! It seems...
The best approach for a newb is anything which gets the newb hammocking! Takes one to know one, hopefully making a PLUQ this weekend. Thinking of tucking some reflectix between the layers.
I'm makin pancakes this weekend buddy! Woowee real maple sizzurp and fat tabs of butter!
Your my height and have a similar hammock. My take is it seems like it would be nice but not a necessity.
Just ordered mine this morning, now I am anxiously waiting and hoping for a quick turn around time!
Really love the attitude you are bringing to this, I think sometimes reading the forums one can get away trying to make sure everything is perfect. You will learn more on that one night than any...
Pyrogen, I just went through the same thought process this week and ended up purchasing the 132" Wilderness Logics Tadpole tarp. First I thought about maybe bartering with my neighbor to build the...
Sounds like you are ready to hang! I just received my first hammock from Dutchware yesterday with tree straps and whoopie hook suspension. Moving from backpacking with a tent I was astonished at how...
It seems like overall people are in favor or indifferent to the knotty mod with perhaps the wider the hammock the more necessary the knotty mod. A few mentioned it keeps things inside the hammock,...
I really like this idea and I look forward to doing this myself!
That camo and burnt orange double looks great! Kind of has a retro feel, like an old hunting jacket .
