Its amazing how much protection those stock tarps do give. I had mine in some real downpours some even with a good wind behind them. Never got wet but lost a bit of sleep worrying about it.

I use calf castrating rings for my self tensioners. Thin shockcord didn't seem like it would do much tensioning. I just tied them into an alpine butterfly and then rethreaded a figure 8 at the end. I...
I sidesleep in a bed but usually find myself on my back in my hammock. I swap sides numerous times when sleeping in a bed and thats a bit of a pain in a hammock. I just put a carabiner on my...
Looks like the way of the future. My hammock will never be used without insulation. It just doesn't get warm enough here. Any plans for a synthetic model?
too much for who?
I've had a few stressful nights in horrible weather under the stock tarp, never got wet though.
I use a small fleece blanket and pull part of it over my head if/when it gets cold
Good to hear.Thats all I was really worried about.
After much research I have decided on a potomac uq for my hh explorer. The only decision now is 3 or 4 season. I will be spending long periods living in my hammock, usually above freezing but...
Sorry for any confusion on the link. I thought it was what was being discussed.
I've been hanging under a heavy duty poly tarp for the last 3 weeks. It works well but the eyelets are showing signs of stress. Mine is 10 x 12 setup as an a-frame. Out of the bush for a few weeks...

Looks like your mate pointed you in the right direction. Nice first rig. Welcome from NZ.
Get out for some day trips with the hammock to build your confidence. Hanging a hammock is nothing to be scared of. I have had my HH explorer for about a month and have slept in it almost every...
Hanging under a poly tarp atm. Does the job well but the eyelets are showing signs of stress. I hope its not raining on the night that the wind gets up enough to tear it from its rigging.
I can back this up. Last night around 9 oclock pm I ordered a winter haven with a few customizations from the comfort of my hammock in the bush. Jared responded in good time with the international...
Too late. Looks good though, don't know how I missed that one in the research phase. International shipping at SLD worked out alot cheaper, which meant I could go nuts on upgrades.
Now I just need...
Trying to decide between these two. Anyone used both or is better than me at decifering hammock lingo that can talk me thru the practical differences.
edit: nvm my impatience got the better of me....
Even weather forecasters get it right sometimes :) Looks like a beautiful part of the world.
Taupo was ok with just a leaky thermarest and cheap sleeping bag. I froze in the wind my first night the kaimanawas. Macgyvered up an undertarp and threw all my spare clothes in with me for night 2,...
Great nights sleep. 2 little trout caught and released before I woke up. I was forced to rig tighter than I did for my practice run and it worked out to be much comfier for me. If I can improve in...

2am setup in the dark. stock hh explorer.
You don't like hobbits? I will try and take a few snaps on this trip. No shortage of good trees here.
Just woken up from my first hang. I have had worse sleeps. Retreated to my bed at around 6 am because I was a little damp and my bed wasn't. Jumping in the deep end tonight, no bed to retreat to.
Thanks for the welcome. I am up north near Whangarei. First hammock outing is going to be down Taranaki way.
Just had real heavy rain up here this evening, a bit much for my little tarp. My hunting...
Just bought my first camping hammock. A hennessy explorer zip. Been napping in it this afternoon set up on the deck. I am going to give it a test tonight then off on a week long canoe hunting trip...
