Well this hits close to home!
Bumpity-bump
This is effectively brand new (it was only released a few weeks ago, as covered in threads on this forum).
I am the second owner, having purchased it here from mo_hunter for $300.
He slept in...
I use some reflective, sheathed 1.8mm guyline from amazon. Has held up well...
Those look worth exploring. Thanks for the lead!
My issue with the flies was simply having to unwrap, remove the loop, slide and redo in order to move it - the removal/reset of the loop on the Flyz being the fiddliest part.
You're the second...
I'm late to the party, but this is really excellent work. Well done.
Believe you have parsed it correctly!
Thanks for the help and the additional ideas. The tending loop in particular may get some attention...
Think I found an online coupon and ended up not too much above $150 on a Singer 4452 and it's been great. Built a backpack, some small bags and next up is some clothing. It can do decent bar tacks...
Ah, bling. I also leave the side guys attached (dutch fishhooks), and just throw them into the tarp as I roll it up before sliding the mesh snakeskin over it. Never any tangles.
Reporting back on progress...
So in looking at the recommendations and learning more about tension knots, I have made some changes and now have:
Split ridgeline out of 1.8mm reflective,...
Nice - I use evoloops in my hammock suspension but had not considered them for the tarp....
Interesting - do you use one on each side?
Thanks very much for the response - I think I understand. Gaping rabbit hole now requires my attention.....
So I currently have a DCF tarp in a snakeskin...all is good, except that I fiddle way too much with the Dutchware Flyz during setup.
Looking for another option - still light, but faster to get it...
Dangnabbit. Really? I want a 30D DL RR...
I've put a very thick 30" wide pad in a RR and it worked well enough, but was a tight fit. A 2.5" pad, 28 - 30" wide, might be perfect. Even with a 25" wide XLite, I still get cold elbows/triceps.
Nice. Will need to test this one very small diameter (~2mm) cord...
I just set up my RR at ~23 or 24 feet apart, straps (w/ whoopies) at about 6 feet up. I was just a few inches off the ground.
For those wide distances, I tend to set up with very little sag and...
Will be interest to hear what others do - I had been thinking about doing the same thing...
Well that is sobering...
Prefer something in a more muted color - grey, green, brown, etc
Quality build!
Oh - and for the Dramur Ultralight, having purchased one here (from mo_hunter) and tried it:
Their fabric is exceptional. Feels very strong, little to no stretch, the see-thru aspect is great. ...
As a follow-up to my own post...I tried a Large Thermarest with a mummy shape and thought it was fine, though I did not have a rectangular pad to compare it with.
I'd like to buy the Dramur UL w/ poles!
Will PM...
I've put a Dramur UL on the wish list.
Very curious - has anyone effectively substituted a Large, mummy-shaped pad (25x77) Xlite, Xtherm or Uberlite in a Dramur? Or is that a forlorn hope?
Thanks Shug! I use a pad in the RR too - like the structure it gives, and the pad does double-duty as a pack frame.
Curious if anyone has looked at this...I can now set up my RR with decent speed, and generally get the angles right on the first try (sometimes a small adjustment needed).
Wondering - for those...
Thanks Shug - but the Lost Lakes videos just serve to remind me that I can't go explore Ontario in a canoe!
We'll need some folks to report back in the high heat of summer, after a sweltering night!
So I emailed Amok and promptly got some helpful additional details:
The bug net is not a net.
It's the same material as the body, "Amok's Monofilament 20D Nylon - Double RS" which is apparently...
Shug, thanks - my DCF tarp is 11x8.5. Likely won't get enough coverage, even though this UL hammock (regular size) appears to be 9" shorter than your XL.
Your video does, however, make a...
What's the situation with non-Amok tarps & this hammock? I imagine my 11' DCF hammock tarp with doors would likely not work well...
I sure hope so! I have a bridge hammock (RR) and the same Dutch Biners used in the same way...let us know if you have an issue!
I recently did a bigger NS50 .5 oz/sq yd project (a bug net to hang under a tarp for canoe tripping).
I'm a novice with a sewing machine...but I found sewing NS50 (the RBTR site says it's 2nd gen...
Just some follow-up on this, perhaps to help anyone else with this in the future:
So I did get the tarp snakeskin (mesh, HG) and added some dutch flyz and hookworms. I added dutch biners to the...
Some great ideas here and in that other thread - thanks to everyone.
I am going to start with some snakeskins, and some dutchbling - specifically his biners, flyz and hookworms. And more...
So I have used the search function with some success on this topic, but feel I could use some specific advice.
I am getting better/faster at setting up the more I do it, but I can see diminishing...
I'll take the Klymit - funds on the way shortly
PM'ed on the Klymit
Just a follow-up on this - the pool noodle extenders worked well last night (think it got down to freezing). I love gear that serves multiple purposes...
Interesting product. At a glance I would think for those really watching the ounces, that you could make this with lighter materials and shave it down by perhaps a pound. It will never be UL, but...
Bill, that's fantastic - and for at least part of my need, gives me a great solution. When I am canoe tripping halfway up Ontario, I usually have some sections of extra-wide foam pool noodles along...
Very cool - thanks for honing right in on the potential solution!
An underquilt is probably in my future for some trips, but there are situations where I have to be able to go to ground (trips up...
So I have been hanging in a double-layer Ridgerunner using a thermarest Xtherm long/wide (mummy-shaped one) and a 10 degree topquilt.
That works well, for the most part, and I am warm & toasty...
Apologies for the slow reply - the photo helps, and would seem to confirm that I have 40D fabric - mystery is likely solved.
Photo attached of my RR fabric...if I can do this correctly...

Thanks - I've had my eye on Bill for a Bridge for some time, but given that I frequently go up into canoe country (read - land of 10,000 Billion Trillion mosquitoes and black flies) - I need the net,...
Indeed, the boat can handle the weight...it's the miles of portaging where it's on my shoulders along with the pack that I'm concerned about.
Regardless, will reapply for my UL card.
Why? Like others, I believe good sleep is too important. I have the Ruta Locura bars to lighten it somewhat. They rest of the kit is UL and allows me to splurge a bit.
You'd be astonished to...
