It's been a while but looked up my original post to find the ratio of silicone to mineral spirits I used for the original recoat so figured I'd post an update on durability.
I've been using my diy...
Probably TMI but I've noticed if I linger even a little when I have to pee I get a pain in my kidney/lower back region far more than I've every noticed in a bed.
It goes away pretty quick after I...
I just use braided mason's line with a fixed loop on one end and a bury on the other. The lines stay permanently larks headed to my tarp tie outs. I use a marlin spike hitch to the stake and put...
Duncanslam, others may have better ideas but if it's only an inch I'd just take it off the tip of the triangle as that last inch of the foot box shouldn't affect anything really.

Hey, that's my hammock!:)
What Skeetrock said is right, your feet don't go into the triangle piece of fabric, the triangle is only there to lower that section of the hammock creating sort of a...
My first DIY was a DL hammock with footbox and integrated bugnet.
Then came whoopie slings, tree straps, double-sided stuff sack, and DIY sil tarp.
The whole setup cost me $60, let me escape...
What a great gesture dangerous! Following in the same footsteps of those you mentioned I see.
Congrats on your milestone, thank you, and count me in!

You probably need to test it out but I think if you can get good penetration with the silicone there's a chance it will work. Maybe washing it a few times first will degrade the DWR coating enough...
Great setup! Did you follow the pattern for the winter tarp on Scott's website? I really like how you hung the walls of the tarp vertical down from the side tie-outs.
I used the design from his...
Assuming it doesn't get below 60, I've just slept inside my synthetic 20 degree bag when indoors and it's been enough without anything else underneath. Comfy too! An improvised UQ made from a fleece...
That mason line is fun stuff to work with isn't it? I recently made my own first tie outs with it as well and really like it.
Not sure what method you use to attach to your stakes but I've been...
Solved all my saggy tarp problems! Thanks for the great thread!

Satisfied with the waterproofness of my tarp for now I've taken it down and was able to get some weight measurements.
So I was able to determine my starting tarp weight was 25 oz. based on some...
I'm 6'4" and used the 9ft plans in this thread by TheXringHunt.

I think it's really an 11'er if you go by the raw fabric dimensions...
Thanks! Yes, I agree brushing (rather than dunking) seemed to me to work the best for application. In addition, my first attempt was in the garage and if I didn't have a drop cloth down I would...
Thanks and sorry to hear your's didn't work out quite as well. I'm not sure how much my starting fabric weight was (kind of wish I did now). I didn't think it was that light but maybe it was.
In...
I'm guessing this is the one from your Marpat Hex Tarp thread? I'm looking forward to reading the test results. It'll likely save me some time next time around...both in fabrication as well as...
Thanks! It appears if the coating is durable I'll have a good tarp on my hands.
Not positive about the added weight, but based on the amount of silicone I used it can't be over 7 oz. Once I take...
Re-coat is complete and fully cured. I used a 3:1 ratio of mineral spirits to 100% silicone by weight and painted it on the tarp from the outside using a 2" foam brush. The fabric soaked up the...
I use a 14 gauge copper ground wire from a scrap 14/2 piece of romex wire for my amsteel and for my braided mason's line a 22 gauge wire I had laying around that I stripped the sheath off of. They...
You guys rock! Great discussion/suggestions! Sorry for the delayed reply but between work and the honey-do list it's been a busy day.
I'll likely either give this or a brush-on technique a...
Hi Everyone,
I can't say enough good things on the knowledge sharing that goes on here. It's been the primary source of information that enabled me to build both my hammock and tarp....and also...
No problem Jazilla, I was too exited having the netting in hand so I just couldn't wait. I appreciate the response none the less. Your response gave me (and others I'm sure) yet another option for...
Thanks for the reply Jazilla! I couldn't wait to install the bugnet so I just dug in like I've done with the the rest of this hammock.
I ended up not hemming the edge on my bugnet and it worked...
Hi Everyone,
First time poster but been lurking for a while....long enough to be almost complete with my DIY WBBB (9ft version).
Everything's been going great so far due to the amazing wealth...
