Circa 1974. My then girlfriend, now wife, and I were camping in the Shining Rock area. Still in college and broke, all we had were 2 ponchos that could be snapped together to make a tent with no...
Big Horse Creek is one of the best trout streams in NC. We are on the catch & release section (stocked sections ends 1/4 mile down stream). 1/4 mile upstream the creek leaves the road and it is...
We live in NC 1/2 mile from VA and 6 miles from TN....7 miles from Grayson Highlands SP. Big Horse Creek runs through our property and there is an island in the middle of the creek where a grist...
I had some extra brushes that are used to apply soldering flux. Used them to apply to both sides and it doesn't look too horrible!
Don't know if this has been shared but I thought it was very informative even though a bit off topic:

Hum...67yo....swollen prostate....crawl out of hammock no less than twice nightly....usually three times. It's 22*. By the time I'm done the moisture against my body feels like ice cubes.
The theory behind VBs is that when worn directly against your body, they trap your perspiration between your body and the VB. This prevents your perspiration from migrating into your outer clothing...
Great video and very encouraging!!! Thanks!
As cmc4free stated, the zipper is removed and there is a permanent foot box. When in use, the top is the former unzippered side. Removing the hood made it symmetrical. It is identical to a typical...
Similar setup....Chameleon, Dutch Beetle buckles on 15' straps and the Warbonnet Superfly. Very happy with the combo. If you want to save some $$$$, convert your NF bag to a TQ. Took my MH -5* to...
How do you think 1.75mm single braid dyneema would work with them?
ETA: maybe I should ask which line do you guys think would work best with the figure 9?
Thanks for the link. Larger but rated to 50lbs? Don't like the tiny teeth that will shred the rope. Trying to find something that works like a dock cleat. Can do a cleat hitch in my sleep, won't...
Question: isn't the stinger just a fleaz with a carabiner added or is the fleaz portion of the stinger larger? They look the same size.
I really like the concept/function of the Fleaz and appreciate the fact that they weigh .89 gr BUT, they are too small IMO. Used them this past weekend with temps around 30. Impossible to use with...
Thanks for your hard work. Love the site!!
I also store them separately with the stakes. I have added a 12" continuous loop of para-cord to each tie out. Easy to attach the lines when setting up and the para-cord absorbs any shock.
Isn't receiving an education what college is for?

Play around with summitpost. Great info on mountains, peaks, trails all over the world.
Was hiking the AT with my daughter who can fly up hills. She met a group headed down in the opposite direction. They stopped and chatted. When asked if she was solo, she replied..."no, I'm with my...
Neither do I. I can see everyone else but nothing related to "add" or "save"
Atrane21 Excellent solution!! Thanks!
x2 I ordered a Chameleon on a Tuesday and immediately receive the confirmation but it said the hammock would ship in 2 days. I really wanted it by the weekend for a trip so I called them. Within...
Marmot Cloud 9 Long synthetic down rated down to -5F. 64 oz including stuff sack. Bag has been used about 20 times. I no longer winter camp. It has always been stored un-stuffed in conditioned coat...
4 idiots ... 1 with a hatchet, 1 with the camera and 2 damaging trees. "Birds of a feather..........
DEET will damage the fabric. Use Permethrin instead.
Cut & paste: Permethrin will not damage clothes or equipment. Unlike DEET, which may harm some fabrics and materials, Permethrin is compatible...
I have a friend who is a manufacturers rep for fabrics including silnylon. I asked him last summer and he said to use nothing but mild soap and warm water. Do not hang to dry in direct sunlight. ...
Yep. Of course it was at 3 am. Thankfully the lid was securely back on the jar!
The Jarbidge River UQ came with a continuous loop with adjustment on only one side. I simply ties a square knot center of the loop and added cord locks to the end that was fixed to the UQ....now all...
Foot end is already approx 18" higher than head.
Makes sense to pull the suspension tighter on the foot and head sides so that the quilt is somewhat at an angle. This specific UC does not come...
I'm only 5'9" but when I lay diagonally, my feet often hang over the top edge on my UC (but still inside the hammock). The UC is a Jarbidge River that is 42" wide. Happy with the quilt....well made...
I also have the 3-season AHE Jarbidge and guess that it packs 10-15% larger but worth it IMO. Just don't trust down when caught out for 2-3 days in the rain.
Which suspension comes with each?
#2 - no bug net?
Not a group but I have several friends that I backpack with. We are always welcoming others to join us. Any specific area that you are interest in? We are currently finishing the NC/TN section of...
I hate mummy bags...sleeping or TQ. I have used a 40 degree North Face rectangular bag unzipped and stayed plenty warm down to 55 degrees. Does anyone here use just a down blanket when temps get...
Used to put bras in while being washed so they won't wrap around everything.
I was looking around our home for something that can be used as an organizer for clothes during the night. My wife made the mistake of leaving this out in plain site.....she hasn't missed it yet!!...
Try The Whale in W. Asheville. They have a large selection of craft beers and good food.

Yea, I played with them this afternoon with the same results. They do keep the net/edge of my face as intended. In any event, I'm very happy with the hammock. Thanks
Attached them to the 2 separate D rings closest to the end. Then used a stake set perpendicular to the hammock. Didn't like that, so moved them to the corner of the tarp as you described. That was...
I received my new Chameleon yesterday, set it up and spent the night in it. I really like the Chameleon but I am having trouble adjusting the tieouts. The cord is so elastic that when I lay...
DANG......one more thing to spend $$$$ on!!
"This is a 1 inch UHMWPE and polypropylene mixed webbing which is what gives it the cool look. We’ve designed this webbing to be a lighter weight (4.9 grams per foot) alternative to regular polyester...
I decided against the idea primarily due to the weight of my old heavy bags.
I need an UQ and now have 3 sleeping bags that will no longer be used. They are 40, 20 & -5 degree bags. My lovely wife is good with a sewing machine!! I looked thru the DIY Gear section and...
Ordered. Received shipping notice in 30 minutes.....should go out today!
It is a short drive to Max Patch from A'ville and a must do if you are in the area. The hike in is very easy.
