Sweet. I'm going to try my first overnight with her this week! She's only 13 pounds so I think we'll sleep fine together in the hammock. :-)
If you're not worried about weight, you already have a complete setup, so what is your motivation for replacing it?
You did say you were going to backpack, though, and reducing weight should be a...
Yep, me too.
It's better than the beekeeping forum I use a lot that often won't let me log in, though...

I'm on tapatalk. "Dog" returned "search string too short," and "sleeping with dogs" and "hiking with dog" came up with huge lists of threads that had little (or nothing) to do with dogs...

Perfect, thanks! None of my searches came up with that.

Mt. St. Helens Volcanic Park, Sheep Canyon trail
This one was epic but kind of dumb. We wanted to be high on the flanks of the volcano for stargazing, so this camp was just at tree line, where the...

I recently adopted a small 13.5 pound mini-poodle-mix dog. She's proven her trail worthiness on day hikes and I'm ready to take her overnight. I'd still like to sleep in my hammock, and I think she's...
The Circuit is a great pack, but you really really need a base weight under 20 pounds (including pack,) closer to 15 is much better. I've carried up to 30 pounds total in this pack, but it stops...
I love my ULA Circuit (with the S-straps.) It's light, it holds an impressive volume for a smaller lightweight pack (it'll fit a bear canister if you must), and it has lots of external pockets that...
Sounds amazing! And it seems you found spots to hang every night? Headed to Summerland in the next few days so glad to see this. Thanks for reporting!
Montexan, I was in the Enchantments last September. Out permit was just for Snow Lakes so we were day hiking from there into the core, but I was eyeing every site for hammock potential. I think...
The trees were surprisingly large given the elevation; we used a combo of 6 and 8 foot straps but probably 6 was long enough. There were some trees bigger than what we used though.
There were...
Goat Rocks was awesome, and there were plenty of trees for hanging around Snowgrass Flats in the lower areas. We absolutely loved it. Trip report here: playapixie.org
Found and purchased. Thanks!
Thanks! Talked to the Rangers yesterday and it sounds like everything on the Goat Lake trail, Snowgrass Flats, and trail to Cispus Basin is snow free, with the snowline above 6000 feet. Woot! I'm...
Anyone know of any database or spreadsheet that shows how good certain trails and backcountry destinations are for hammock camping?
I'm a Washington backpacker who has mostly switched to hammock...
Goat Rocks Wilderness is at the top of my list for a longer backpack this summer (maybe next week if the snow is melted out enough) and I'm wondering if anyone has been there with a hammock. I know...
8-10 miles a day in Glacier for non-backpackers sounds really ambitious to me. Every hike I've done there has had substantial elevation gains and losses. It's rugged country, and all the hikes...
We are spoiled her for certain. :-) Washingtonians take our trails personally.
Not sure why the trip report link wouldn't open; it just worked again for me. The WTA website is a bit buggy,...
One-night backpack to Lake Valhalla off of Stevens Pass on the PCT (Washington Section K.) Sweet and easy spot to hike to and hammock camp. We went in via Stevens Pass (6 miles and around 1200 feet...
Ha, yes! So many times! And I'm tiny ("sure they're small, but they only need to hold a pixie!") Of cousre, I'm also obsessed with the perfect view of the lake, mountain, river, and stars...after...
I fold them back towards eachother and tie them together via the tie-outs. My door tie-outs do have small shock cord loops so I just tie them kind of tight and they stay snug. I use it like this...
I did a small part of it last weekend (Stevens Pass to Lake Valhalla) and found trees. +1 for long straps. Mine are 8' and I had to extend one with extra line. I've also done a lot around Rainy...
Want to buy cuben fiber tarp for my guest/loander hammock (so I don't have to sleep in a tent when I backpack with friends!) Prefer standard hex/no doors but would also consider doors.
Thanks!

Realize I never shared my trip report on the Enchantments from on WTA.org: https://www.wta.org/go-hiking/trip-reports/trip_report.2014-09-25.7092327638
And here are pics: ...
This is the first trip where I've had real trouble finding a hammock spot, which hihglights the need for trip reports for hammock campers, so here's mine from the WTA.org website for my trip to...
I have a blue Kammok that I want to trade for a purple Kammok Roo. Just because I like purple better...and maybe you like blue better.
It's been used a few times in the day and slept in one...
Made it through the Enchantments last September and the weather was immaculate. We only had a Snow Lakes permit so we camped there 3 nights and did day hikes into the core. I was totally scouting...
WTB Hummingbird hammock & straps for day hiking.
I love the purple! Might have to get another one. :-)
As a small backpacker, weight matters to me. I use whoopies. Tree strap length depends to some degree on where you live. Here in Washington I have found on several occasions that my 8-foot straps...
I'm also planning to hang at Blanca Lake later this summer (my roomie picked the location.) Haven't researched it enough to be sure about hanging spots yet, but I'm hopeful. Let me know if you go!...
Thanks for the info. I would have gone for a tent in the Mt Margaret Backcountry Lakes, but there weren't permits available anyhow. We're headed to hike the Sheep Canyon loop and some of the Loowit...
Well, boo. The park service said no to hammocks. They said that camping is only allowed in the designated sites on the designated tent pads, due to the fragile regrowth in the 1980 blast zone. :-(
Has anyone tried hammock hiking in the Mt. Margaret backcountry lakes area in the Mt. St. Helens blast zone? Photos look like there are trees, but hard to tell if they are adequate for hammocks. ...
Looking for gear to get a friend started. Looking for a warbonnet blackbird, cuben tarp, and a 20 degree under quilt (will consider down or synthetic.)
Thanks!
Dawn
I'm also 5'3" and I have the short incubator. Honestly I'm sure I would have been fine with an even shorter UQ (maybe even 3/4) as I sleep fetal a lot of the time. But I'm grateful for the entire...
I find that the temperature ratings for hammock quilts don't compare to the same ratings for sleeping bags in a tent. I need much warmer gear in a hammock. I use a 20 degree quilt set in the Pacific...
Tree strap length depends on where you live. I'm in the NW and often need 8 feet. Was recently on a hike in old growth rain forest where 8 feet wasn't enough and wished I had 12.
Cool concept! What's the weight with various components?
Not home now but if I remember I'll snap a pic. It definitely helps to use a dry bag not a regular stuff sack, as you can squeeze all the air out and it becomes like a vacuum pack and stays as small...
Gary: my straps are 8 feet and way too short for many of the trees. 12 would be closer but still possibly not enough. The first trees I tried didn't work because my tarp ridge line wasn't long...
Gary: bring LONG tree straps and extra line to Enchanted Valley. Those trees are big! Plenty of smaller deciduous trees to pick from too, but they don't shelter you from the weather as well. I just...
In Washington: 7 Lakes Basin & High Divide (harder), or Enchanted Valley (easy 14 miles each way), both in Olympic National Park. Adams Creek Meadows on Mt Adams (though you'd have to camp below tree...
I can stuff my 20 degree short/wide Burrow AND 20 degree short incubator AND WB Blackbird hammock into one 13L Sea to Summit ultrasil dry bag, and compress it enough to lay the whole package...
