I'm genuinely curious: what's your reasoning for using a DL with Cloud? Wouldn't it just make more sense to use a SL in a heavier fabric since it would be lighter overall?

I'm pretty sure TrailHeadz uses .50oz mesh. That's probably what theirs is a few ounces lighter.

I'm looking for a 20° full-length hammock underquilt. Preferably for under $150, and around 25oz in weight. If it weren't for the long wait time, I'd have an order in for a Hammock Gear Econ...
Looks intriguing! Thanks for posting pictures. It wasn't mentioned anywhere on their site last I looked, but I see it now. Very tempting to buy another hammock I don't really need.

What's this I hear about .71 Cloud fabric from Dutchware? Is there a new fabric that you're releasing?
Also true. A 20* econ Incubator could probably fix most of my issues. I also see the benefit in having gear that can be used in tandem so I can add or subtract pieces as necessary.
This looks promising! Any issue getting in and out without the zipper or is it worth the extra couple ounces?
Regarding Hammock Gear under quilt protectors, it seems like the 20d version must be worth the extra weight over the 10d, right? If the fabric is thicker, it stands to reason it must be better at...
Thanks as always Shug for the great tips. I hadn't thought of using my down coat on the outside of my hammock.
I'll look into UQP options, that seems like a good solution as well.
Not sure if...
I'm planning for a potential winter trip in the Northeast and hoping to rely mostly on my summer setup. Here's what I currently have:
Dream Darien
Hammock Gear Econ Phoenix 40*

When my daughter was 3, she slept in a hammock my wife sewed for her as her every night bed. It was about 7 x 4.5 ft and it fit her well. From our experience, the extra length didn't have a...
Thanks for the insights! My Dream Hammocks Darien in 1.2 Robic (now MTN) fills a similar slot as the Banshee UL, though it's a bit heavier at just over 15 oz. I'm curious to try out a monolite...
While I certainly don't need yet another hammock, I'm very intrigued by the innovative design and low weight of the TrailHeadz Wraith UL. The problem is that I'm around 190lbs and 6'1", which is...
There are a few vendors that carry CLs. They're also easy to make. Personally, I've switched to making Universal Loops for all of my hammocks.

I have a Hyperlite Zip with a supershelter. I got a few good years out of it before I upgraded to a Dream Darien. It's lighter and more similar to a cottage vendor hammock compared to their other...
Finally got around to trying this. Ended up with about an 8" bury on a whoopie that ranges in length between 16" and 29". Not bad for a first attempt!

Thank you all for the great information! Based on what I'm hearing here, I'll shoot for a 8" bury. I'll save a few inches and will still feel secure hanging from it.
Good to hear I'm on the right track!
For reference, I'm around 200lbs. Is there a formula for determining the weight rating for a length of bury?

I'm relatively new to splicing so I'm looking for for some advice on making whoopie slings. I find that 6' whoopies are longer than I really need. I'd like to make some extra short whoopies that...
Randy and the Dream Hammock team worked with me to customize a hammock that works with the HHSS. I haven't done an overnight in it yet, but it seems like it should work as intended.

It's funny, I have no qualms about leaving gear set up in a campground, but I would hesitate to leave a hammock set up somewhere while backpacking. It would be nice to think that it wouldn't be...
That's an interesting historical post on patents!
I'm very curious how the structural ridgeline patent played out. Obviously Hennessy isn't the only manufacturer to feature them now. Did someone...
If you're taking requests for what should be on sale next, I'd be very interested in the Spider 1.5 straps.
I briefly considered getting some unsewn webbing on sale, before I realized that the...
Awesome, thanks for the offer! I'll reach out over email.
Thanks for the advice! Since it would be a custom hammock, there's no way to try it beforehand. I'm inclined to try it and see if I can make it work. With a longer hammock and shorter HHSS, maybe it...
Does anyone have any experience using a Hennessey Supershelter with a Darien? I'm seriously considering splurging for an 11' x 63" Darien. I would feel better about the purchase if I can avoid having...
I mostly camp in the northeast, so trees tend to be of relatively narrow girth. I used HH 3.5 ft straps for several years and was always able to find trees. That being said, having the ability to...
Cool--thanks for the reassurance! The chair is a DIY gathered end made from Robic, suspended using whoopies. It doubles as a gear hammock as well.
Weight isn't my only consideration. If I bring two sets of straps, I can use one to hang a chair while my camping hammock is set up--assuming I can hang each one with 4 ft huggers.
Has anyone tried connecting multiple tree huggers (using a lark's head or some other connection) to go around larger trees? I'm thinking that I could buy two sets of 4 ft huggers and daisy chain...
