Just found out about Marty by accident when attempting to place an order. Thoughts and prayers to the Gallimore family. Family is all that really matters in life. Hold on to one another. Bless you...
I live about an hour or so from there as well. In the general area about once a month riding around on my bike. Would love to stop in at some point. Dutch seems like a cool dude.
Sent from my...
Yeah, I was at Elk Neck a couple weeks ago. No problem.
Cool man, I hope you guys had fun. That's a really easy section of trail, but still enjoyable. That Garvey shelter is insane. They really did a great job on it. Only bad part about it is that a lot...
If you park at the bottom of Weverton, it's only about 2 miles to the Ed Garvey shelter from there. Lots of good hang spots off to the left of the shelter (left of, as in when you're approaching the...
I'd hang if I could. I'm only a few miles away. I'm working this weekend though (again). Hope you all have fun!
I have one, and everything said is true. It's a darn goodie.
Yep. Maryland through and through! Ha! I forget sometimes that we have an accent here in MD. Similar to the Philly accent... especially Baltimorons. No offense to the city folk ;)
Thanks for the...
Hey Chesapeake, sorry for the slow reply. I don't hang in the summer, so I don't really check the forum often during the summer.
I didn't use the folded side of the blanket where I ran the stitch...
Hello from Harford County.
I folded my jungle blanket when I converted it into an UQ. You may have to run a stitch down the length of the fold to keep the insulation in place. I did, anyway. Then...
Same here. Annoying.
Why do I need a notification that I replied to a thread? That's like your trash can telling you that you just threw a banana peel in it.
.......waiting for the...
+1 to that!
@sixty7flh, twenty five days of riding a bike and camping sounds incredible, man. I do hope you're able to post some pics in July. I'll be watching out for your trip report.
Knees...
Yeah, just measure from connection point to connection point. The 83% thing is just a good place to start. Everyone is different, and so are hammocks. Play around with the length until you find...
I got mine yesterday, but haven't had a chance to use them yet. I'm going to polish them up first anyway. The sandblasting did a fantastic job at removing the burrs, but as a result, the finish is...
I probably will too, if for no other reason than price, ha! Plus, my food will get destroyed either way if a bear does get hold of it.
Oh wow, that's crazy. I wonder if there was any food...
Me too :)
I am curious if you used the opsack also. I just recently picked up some opsacks, and use them to line my dry bag that I use for a food bag. The bears can't get to the bag (PCT hang method), so I use...
Glad to hear you're doing well, CB! Being stuck in a hospital sucks, but hey... you've got time to learn how to do wheelies in that wheelchair :)
Sure thing, man. Thanks! I'm itching to play with them :)
Hmmm, maybe mine will be delivered today. I ordered on the 10th, and got a shipping notice on the 12th also.
They sure do look spiffy. Looking forward to playing around with them and finding all...
Mmmm. Bird poop.
I heard some strange noises, and large rocks being bumped around in the middle of one of the nights on my last trip. It was near where my food bag was hung. It was hard to make out the animal sounds...
Her poor parents, my goodness. I couldn't imagine... my son is my life.
These are two of the main reasons I use them. I also use other suspensions, but it's easy to whip a set of whoopies up for a friend.
+1 on Dutch clips. I have the regular ones, but JRB has the old school flavor.
I use my bandana to wipe it down. Wring it out. Repeat until dry. Shake all the twigs, leaves, etc. off first.
If it has bird doodies on it, I just undo the tie outs, and shake it like I'm mad at...
Just got a chance to watch them all the way through. Glad to see the reappearance of pork brains in milk gravy. Mmmmm.
"..early"
"EARLY!"
Thanks for sharing your adventures, and happy...
I prefer the foot end higher. It seems to help me stay diagonal, especially with a tight suspension of an UQ trying to straighten me back out. Maybe it's placebo, but it seems to help.
I like simple hammocks, too. Especially since they're easy to make yourself, and the pride that comes along with making your own stuff.
I would say in general, a simple gathered end is indeed...
That's good to hear. Thanks for letting us know.
I think the issue may have just been finishing. I have some of the original speed hooks, and there is a decent burr in the holes. As fine as the fibers are on amsteel, it doesn't take much effort...
Ridgeline length also... which falls under sag as noted above by Campdavid. The way the ends are gathered/whipped may play a part as well.
I currently have a WBBB XLC that has the most calf ridge...
Great video!
Wow man, those are sweet. Congrats.
I have an XLC 1.7 single layer. Got it here on the forum. Paid $140, willing to sell for $130 plus shipping, paypal. Used it about three or four times backpacking, and a couple times in the back...
Really impressive that all of that comes in under a pound. That's incredible (remember that show from the 80's?)! Color me jealous.
Below about 80°F, my backside will get cool without at least something under me. I can get away with laying on something in the hammock, but it's been awhile since I've hung when it's warm out. I...
Great looking quilt, you should be proud of that. I would be.
As for seam sealing, never heard of that on a quilt (not saying no one does that, just never heard of it). I try to keep my quilts as...
I am pretty sure that my trail lair is my most comfortable hammock. I will never get rid of that thing.
He does ship things so fast. He was actually on vacation when I ordered mine, and I still...
Goodness. Glad he's okay (relatively). That is the suck.
Get well, dude!

I use loops so I can swap out suspensions easily between hammocks (not an issue if you only have one hammock), to separate wet suspension from the hammock when packing up, and to create a water break...
Did you know that Dutch's hammocks already come with a cable tie in the channel, just like in the video?
I maybe should have been more clear, but I use continuous loops in lieu of UCRs, and I...
It's a little roomier than it looks. That's a wide UQ (50"), so the edges come up a bit higher than a standard width UQ would. Plus, I couldn't talk her out of packing a lot of things (her first...
No problem. Sharing is caring :)
Well, my mom was really warm and comfy in the cayenne pepper. It's a really well made quilt, and I look forward to trying it out myself. Really pleased with it, no matter who ends up owning it!
Ordered an evolution shirt. Gonna rock that bad boy on the trail. Thanks for the discount!
This is my favorite method.

I put two klemheists on the ridgeline using an 8-10" piece of cord and use them to position it. Same principle as a ridgeline organizer. You can use a knot of your choice to attach the ends of the...
I have used mine as a chair a few times, but have mostly been using it as a gear hammock suspended from the ridgeline of the hammock. Super convenient. I picked mine up last year sometime on a whim...
