UGQ uses snaps on the doors like you are describing.

How durable do you have to go for large dragons?!

Agreed with this. I opted for doors on my new tarp for my AT thruhike next year. When rain is torrential, the dry peace of mind from doors will be nice for the minimal added weight.

Not that you need more convincing, but I have a custom trap from Jared and love it. Before I even got into hammock camping, I stumbled upon SLD for a tarp-tent. His customer service, professionalism...
I'm looking at one of these from Jared too. I'm curious what the benefit of no see um / nano see um is over silnylon though? Is it just the weight? I like the idea of silnylon keeping a wet tarp...
Would it extend all the way to the end? I might recommend having it start one or two feet from both ends, so rain from the openings at head and foot doesn't hit it and create a pool. Just a thought....
This is straight genius. Love it.

I finally broke down and paid the annual subscription to remove ads. $5 a year is not that bad (or you can do $15 one time for life). At the end of the day, my sanity is worth $0.42 a month.

Are you looking for a 1.0 Hallf-wit? Or just a 1.0? I have a Dutch single layer 1.0 hammock netless in Burnt Orange I bought last year (with Duel Knotty Mod). Only used it once in the field and...
This would be a recommendation within an hour drive. Fun hike, great water and camping availability with a neat site to see.

What time of year? The Yosemite Hetch Hetchy valley is incredible, as is the John Muir Trail, but both require a summer trip. California fan favorites...

Enlightened Equipment has a garage sale of pre-made items ready to ship. Looks like there is at least 1 UQ there.

Thank you. Then I believe that may help answer the OP's question, weight is nearly identical between the two tarp fabrics.

SilvrSurfr, not starting yet another ENO fight on this forum. I simply asked if anyone knows whether the SuperFly also included accessories in its weight. Trying to give the OP accurate comparative...
Because I own it and weighed it. We shouldn't make assumptions in our advice to people's questions if we don't know.

Does anyone know what the SuperFly includes with that weight? The HouseFly comes with long rope tie outs that are included in that weight. Without the tie outs, the housefly weighs only 22 oz. ...
I also bought this combo recently. They are a great lightweight combo, but in my field test, I found the spiders struggle to move up and down the webbing easily. This appears to be because the...
I've done the Kettle Moraine section of the Ice Age Trail a couple times for great weekend hang trips. Highly recommended as a nearby "prep" for the AT. They even have shelters :-)

Isn't that supposed to be "Ithaca is GORGES"? :-)

I'm also planning a future AT thru on a hammock, and one of the key things I'd recommend is to change up your insulation overtime. If you can afford it and have someone to help ship things to you,...
Like in this pic in Denali, there are times I need to hit the ground. I know a 10x8 with doors would give me storm protection on the ground, but I'm hoping it will hanging...
I currently use a custom 6x8 tarp from simplylightdesigns, hung on the diagonal (10'). Yes, at times I've had some rain and minor wetness, but it has worked well so far when hung low. And I've been...
This is another good point. With a shorter tarp RL, your head could be right up against the wall and doors, which could be uncomfortable.

Matt, this is great advice and insight. Thank you, and everyone else (excluding the sarcastic jokesters), for taking the time to weigh in and educate. I'll certainly share back my end results here,...
I know this, and appreciate it ... but i want to do my research to choose correctly, and thus appreciate this forum!

But back to the post, I was more interested in understanding the physics of these tarps and doors, and why 10' just doesn't cut it. For some reason, 11x10 tarps just feel gigantic.

That was the closest I found to what I am looking for, but from the site order form, it looked like the only put doors on one end. I'll reach out to them to discuss.

I want to get the smallest "comfortable" tarp with doors. In my searching, it looked like that meant winter tarp ... but no, not a true winter tarp, this would be for 3-season use.
If it helps, I...
8 inch continuous loops
Whoopie slings attached to continuous loop by toggles
Just to reference the type of doors I mean. That shelter is the style I want, but too big/heavy for my purposes.

If you close the doors tightly though, why do you need 11.2 inches on each side instead of 5.2 from a 10' tarp? Assume doors like the SuperFly, for example.

I am still learning, so forgive the ignorance ... but I don't understand why all winter tarps are gigantic. I'm extremely weight conscious, and want the smallest full cover tarp (with doors). But,...
I'm interested, but could you add a pic of the hole and repair job?

That looks very nice, if I could sew I'd love to make one of those :-)

I've only been here a year, but there are two places i've gone hiking that appear to be potential spots. Topanga State Park in Santa Monica has some nice trails and supposedly group camp sites. ...
Hey all, I'm a new transplant to Los Angeles looking for a group hang or meetup in the area. I've never been to a hang before, but it sounds like fun! I'm am intermediate level hanger, but looking...
Love my ENO singlenest, looking to upgrade with the Ember 2 underquilt and HouseFly rain tarp.
I want to buy my first underquilt, and like the Enlightened Prospect or Revolt, looking to buy one used in good condition if you have. Open to any configuration.
