So this is in Conestoga PA and not Caledonia State Park?
I use that knot a lot when fishing. It's what flies out the top of my reel when I get a birds nest.
Does Shug have a video about this?
I have trouble getting out as well, due to back issues. I started to use a hikeing stick I made from a hardwood branch. I put it in the ground between my feet and...
Sent my info. Hopefully I dont get taken out by a sketchy Sheetz sandwich, like I did in spring!
I didn not see a post for Fall 2023?
I will be there.
Leave the kayak home unless you are spending more time. 2 very small lakes in Pine Grove Furnace State Park, about 20 minutes away.
Last year the temp called for in Fayetteville was forecast to be...
As little as possible, depending on weather and company.
Wow, that's crazy! I guess if you got the knowledge and the tools of the trade... Hang your own hang!
Don't know if anyone has posted this yet.
I keep a one of those cheap disposable big box store painters tarps in my pack. It weighs just a few ounces and takes up about as much room as a smushed hot...
I also have used them for tarp tie-outs. Never had any issues and have some in my pack as back-up or utility lines. Cheap, light and handy to have on hand!
I'm in! Looking forward to it!
Had to go backyard. Did some testing on some improvised 50F and up UQ.
Wow! I put my 30% on when it was about 60 and in 5 minutes it felt like I was going to burst into flames. I don't sleep well when it's too hot.
UPDATE: Slept in the hammock last night (52F). The fleece wasn't too bad but I didn't set it up just right and my shoulders were a bit cold. Back and butt were OK. Got up for the 2:30 am pee and...
Like the old saying goes:
Fast,
Cheap,
Done Right,
Pick any two!
I have tried some things like that with no luck either... Which brings me to my current hair brained scheme... Neodymium magnets! Strong and light.
I finished my back yard "hammock lab" last...
I've been getting HG sale ads in my FakeBook feeds lately. Don't know if their sale is still going or not.
Doing an impromptu motorcycle ride/overnight hang this weekend (Yamaha Stryker 1300 cruiser) that is in an area that is kind of car camping. They don't allow vehicles in the camping area (which is...
TL DNR...lol!
I used a pad 1 time, then bought a good UQ. My recommendation is spend the money for a good UQ first!!!
I got a HG Burrow 30*F under quilt (40*F, with baffle Mod and overstuff)
I'm VERY happy I did!
I'm 6'3", 240. I got a Dutchware Chameleon regular width and I have absolutely no problems at all. If I had to do it over, I'd get the wide. Just in case I get fatter!
My advice would be to do it during warmer months on an overnight where you could bail out if said person is too uncomfortable.
Summer, No. 3 season (add Spring and Fall)... YES! Add winter... go get a bank loan, because... ****!
#1!... (gotta start somewhere) Spring MAHHA at Caledonia SP in South Central PA! Dutch Chameleon and Winter Tarp!

Got my HG TQ/UQ five years ago and I'm STILL smiling!
Had a ton of fun at Spring MAHHA! Dutch Oven cook-off was way better than the pig roast! I'm gonna have to get me a dutch oven and start practicing!!!
Here is the forcast for nearby town. The group tent camping area is in a valley of a couple 1400 foot high mountains, so probably about 5-10 degrees cooler. It's gonna be a bit chilly!

The campground is in a valley that makes the temps 5-10 degrees colder than the forcasted temps. Prepare for temps be in the mid 20's to be on the safe side!
I'm 6'3" 235lbs, never had any issues with regular width. Length is more critical IMHO.I can't do anything under 11' in length. My DIY was 13' and was super comfy! I like the Dutchwear Gear Chameleon...
Looks like I'll be able to make it this time! If the good lord is willing and the creek don't rise!
It depends on wether you can Car camp or hike in. If I'm car camping I bring everything. Lots of extra water, gear and cordage in case someone lost or broke something.
Nice that it's a bit earlier! Family/friends birthdays always got in the way in late Sept/Early Oct. On the schedule.
Got it marked on my calendar!
I hope to make it, but not sure I will be able to make it.
Here's mine from April.185690
No group that I'm aware of, other than the Spring/Fall events, but I'm in Mechanicsburg if you need anything, shoot me a PM.
+1. Great inexpensive option for kids, but IMHO not big enough for an adult. Nothing under 11 foot for me, and I did a DIY that was going to be 11', but it was the end of the roll and they gave me...
Looking forward to it.
I upgraded from my 13 year old DIY hammock to a brand spanking new Chameleon with bug net, top cover and beetle buckles and winter tarp!
High enough that a porcupine can pass without incident!
was all but eady to give up on camping at 50, until a friend got me hammocking... 57 and going strong!
After 13 years of service, I am (semi) retiring my DIY hammock. Semi retired, as relegated to lazy Sundays in the back yard...
Ordered a Dutch Chameleon and Winter Tarp with all the bells and...
Yoga pants for hammocks???
I had back problems sleeping in a tent with my wrecked back. I was ready to give up camping altogether when a friend suggested a camping hammock. He pointed me to "Just Jeff's" hammock camping page...
Bear spray should be sufficient, but I'd be more worried about sasquaches and UFO's!
If I don't win one I'll need to know where to buy one!
LMOA! Thanks for the laugh!
WooHoo! I can actually make it for the hang instead of just the pig roast! First time since Spring 2017... Can't wait!
Thanks for that, but I don't have a rating for a 1/2" down blanket (folded in 1/2 to make it 1"-1.25). Is there a degrees to loft chart? A better q would have been "what is 1" of down in degrees?
