Well done!

I love sleeping in gathered end hammocks, but I struggle to find that sweet spot in my Clark Vertex. I'm sure there must be something I'm missing when I set it up, as I am only 5'4" and 145 lbs, so...
Awesome. I've only ordered from Butt in a Sling and Dutch so far (and a tarp from OEM back when that was up and running). I will have to try Simply Light Designs in the future.

Nice! I made my own back in 2011. Unfortunately my dog destroyed it. I loved that thing. It's very satisfying to make your own gear. Your net looks sweet. [emoji41]

Awesome. I've read that Dutch is good about custom tweaks on gear. That is likely the route I will take [emoji106]

Roger that. I have not purchased a Bugnet yet. I was assuming using a longer than 83% ridgeline could cause and issue. Your post verifies that sentiment.
Before purchasing a bugent I will be sure...
I keep my ridgeline set pretty long - just shy of 10 feet (roughly 9 feet 11 inches). Will the 11 foot Bottom Entry Bugnet (fronkey style - no zipper) bug net be able to cover the length of my...
Cool! Looking forward to seeing pics [emoji3]

Looks sooo good! Well done!

A store employee looked up some info for me. He confirmed that the pole is aluminum, but I don't have wall thickness information or anything.

I've been wandering in my local Menards hardware store and I came across a telescoping pool pole. It's lighter than the paint poles. It felt pretty strong. I extended one out to about 8.5 feet and...
[emoji106] I like the simple, clean lines of the new logo.

That looks like a really sweet combo! Thanks for sharing, Shug!

Wow, I hadn't thought about using a second pair of spiders like that! Thank you for sharing!

Originally I used rope lashing, which worked well, but didn't allow me to use the full 8 foot length. I switched to D-Ring tie downs. I found a 4 pack for under 5 bucks at my local Menards. I...
Sweet idea! Thank you for creating a video to explain it [emoji4]

Thanks for being the guinea pig & posting your results! I'm glad no one was harmed :)

Wow. I thought I had read this whole thread! Looks like I completely missed the middle. (The downfall of late night reading.) Thank you!

I'm looking forward to seeing how your project progresses [emoji106]

Any thoughts on breaking down the EMT into 4.25 foot sections for better portability? I've thought about using EMT, but couldn't come up with a simple way to connect them.

I've wondered about the quality of a telescoping pool pole
https://www.menards.com/main/search.html?search=Pool+pole&ipp=20
I've also wondered about taking the cheap steal poles out of this...

If this is the type of garden stake you're talking about, I've used them for...
I reread my response and decided I didn't clearly answer your two questions:
2 or 3 fraps
Yes, shear lashing on both the top and bottom.

I followed this animation for the lashing. I think there are 6 or 7 wraps around the legs and two in between. Natural fiber rope holds knots really...
Thanks for all the ideas! This is my first attempt at the stand. I spent $6.84 total on the eight foot 2x2s (they were $1.71 each at my local Lowe's). I had some natural fiber cord (it might be...
Nice work! The ghost hammock is on my list of things to do before summer comes around. Congrats on having a successful trip field-testing it! :)
I really appreciate your description on how to and how not to make a dog hammock!!! And that's a great tip on using it as a dog bed at home!!!
A dog-specific hammock is now on my sewing list (the...
I was in the Peace Corps in Honduras when I got my pup, Tazi. I slept on a cot because at the time I couldn't figure out how to get the bug net around my hammock. Well the dog knew where the more...
So you expanded on Frawg's original design and Barry's modification. You re-attached some of the pieces you cut and sewed them onto the ridgeline section of the tarp, right? I don't think either of...
Not sure how big your dog is, but mine is 35 Lbs and sleeps in the hammock with me. The mosquitoes, black flies, deer flies, and horse flies would tear her to shreds if she wasn't under the mosquito...
Thanks! I especially like the idea of placing the bracing pieces on the outside of the frame. :)
Thanks for the feedback! Yeah, there are a lot of similarities between the two designs. The biggest difference I see is Risk has a bar at both the top and bottom. I'm trying to avoid any bottom...
Hmmm... not quite sure what you mean. But I only have MS Paint to draw with, which is tricky...
Does this make sense?
Woo-Hoo!!! That is one slick lookin' hammock!!! Congrats, and good luck on the job hunt!!!
Are there any wooden top-bar stand designs out there? I was thinking of something with a vertical top-bar support like this...
Thanks OldGringo, I like your welded stand! It's less expensive than galvanized pipe and you don't have to deal with the headache of using fittings & pipe wrenches. And the 'biner hooks are really...
Geez, I've been a real slacker when it comes to introducing myself...
I hail from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan where we eat pasties, smoked fish, and rhubarb pie every day. Hockey sticks...
Cool, the WayBack Machine or whatever it is didn't want to take me to this when I tried previously. Thanks! I was thinking 1.25 would be a nice size pipe to hang from, and apparently it is!!! But...
 No offense taken!!! I'm a talker and a thinker and new to communicating in forums! I'll work on my tone, I didn't mean to be all defensive when I was writing... I've got to learn how to...
I believe if there is going to be a failure on the stand, it will be at one of the fittings. I would guess the most stress isn't on the L where I hang the hammock straps or 'biner, but at the top or...
I know it didn't work out, but aesthetically I really like the design of your 1.0. Very creative! The angles make it look less industrial, and it's hard to make steel pipe not look industrial!!! ...
Hmm... good point, seeing that this is black natural gas pipe I really should invite up my local master natural gas fitter to come over and hang for a bit! I'm afraid an encounter with a typical...
Yeah, the bar you are looking at is bent. These are used pipes, I was just trying to be creative with what I've got on hand. The pipe is steel, has no cracks, and the bend hasn't changed since I...
I built a hammock stand a couple weeks ago out of 1/2 inch black pipe. It's roughly 14 feet long and 6 feet tall. It's not the prettiest contraption, but it works just fine. My sister, mom,...
Raisins has an olive green superfly up for sale. He said it's had a couple months of thru-hike use, though.
I was looking up some stuff on the Winter Dream- which version do you have? Do the ends...
I like the red tarp, it looks like a very happy color! The color I don't like is yellow. Yellow items I find are bug magnets. And grey silnylon can be so boring. But red, hmmm... I just ordered...
Well, after thinking about the possibility of my pup shredding any hammock and/or netting I put up, I decided to go the DIY route. That way if the hammock did get destroyed, I wouldn't be out a lot...
