I’m curious how it went?

That place looks incredible! May have to be on my travel wish list.

Awesome video! It’s great that you take your boys out and introduce them to the wonders of the outdoors.

Yes, after I thought about it, I realized what you may have meant. Enjoy, and welcome to Illinois!

Wow! Yeah, something nosing it's way into my UQ while I was in the hammock would definitely get my attention!

I see, makes sense. I'm sure he'll find a good spot. I'm not quite sure why Garden of the Gods wouldn't be a good area, but I'm no expert on these things. :)

...unless I misunderstood and he's actually renting a car?
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Pounds Hollow isn't far by car, but it is 10 miles. Keep in mind he is taking a train from Chicago to Carbondale, then hiring a car to take him to wherever he's going to camp and drop him off.
...
MORE COW BELL!!! LOL

Ooh, something I hadn't thought of, if you camp in Bald Knob Wilderness, which is MUCH closer to Carbondale than Garden of the Gods, Bald Knob Cross would be an EXCELLENT place to view the eclipse. I...
Hi, I live near St. Louis (Illinois side), just a couple of hours from Carbondale, and my dad is from that area down there. I love the Shawnee N.F. It sounds like you've received some pretty good...
Also, you'll be surprised how quickly you may need an UQ. Anything below about 70 degrees at night and my backside feels a bit breezy without it.

UQ first definitely. I've had my hammock for two years, still just have an UQ and use an unzipped rectangular sleeping bag like a TQ (you could even just use a blanket). Not sure I'll ever fork out...
Love it!

Oh cool, thank you.

Agreed. I also use a 3/4 UQ with my bottom entry HH Exped, and it works MUCH better without the side tie outs staked out. The down side is I feel more cramped without them holding the sides out....
Curious to know what you think. I've had my HH for over a year, and I'm happy with it.

Welcome from right across the river in IL. I have the same hammock you do.

I have a HH Exped., and I get the ridge line as tight as I can. Right or wrong, I don't know, but it seems to work well enough for me.

Looks awesome!

Welcome from Illinois Gus!

Definitely go for the extra room, I agree wholeheartedly that you won't regret it. I'm 5'9", 185 lbs. and use an Expedition, kind of wish I had a bigger one.

I'll be watching it from work. Luckily I work outside. Sky is pretty clear here also.

I was able to do a search of Woot directly from the Google results list.
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I just checked the Woot site, and it's saying every single type of Yukon hammock they offer is sold out. You might try Amazon?

I know a guy that once successfully fought off THREE wild boars after having only one sip of his coffee. ;)

That is pretty good! I like that.

I'm in Illinois, in the St. Louis metro area, and it gets pretty hot and humid here in the summer also. Maybe not quite as bad as where you are, and it doesn't last quite as long, but I know what you...
Slept in the hammock in the backyard last night. Got down to 52 degrees, the coolest I've hammocked in so far. Felt great with the JRB torso-length 20 degree UQ and an unzipped sleeping bag as a TQ....
Nice! I don't have room for that in my little 22' travel trailer with no slide outs, even if I could find sturdy anchor points.

Cool, thanks! Panther Den is one place that had been on my radar, I'll have to check it out.
Yes, if you mean Trail of Tears State Forest near Jonesboro, that's actually the only place I've hammock camped so far. That was in September.
Probably in the 10 - 20 mile range. Also looking for good car camping/walk-in options for hammocks.
Welcome from the STL area (IL side).
Yes, I go right down 127. I love Southern Illinois, my Dad is originally from the Elkville area.
Nice job!!
Welcome! I'm right across the river from you in Granite City.
Hello and welcome! I'm also from Illinois, St. Louis area. I just got into this last year myself, at age 46. I bought a Hennessy Hammock and tarp, and am very happy with it.
Welcome to the forums Bud. I'm also in IL, St. Louis area. I pass through Nashville frequently on my way to the Shawnee Natl. Forest, or to visit relatives I have in Southern Illinois.
Welcome from Illinois! I was stationed at Kunsan Air Base, South Korea from '92 - '93. Spent a few weekends in Seoul, and have a friend that lives there now.
Hello from Illinois! I lived in Charleston from '93 - '96 (stationed there in the Air Force). Met and married my wife there. Still miss that place! Anyway, welcome!
Welcome from Illinois!
Welcome from Illinois (near St. Louis).
Welcome! I'm from IL (near St. Louis), and pretty new here myself. I bought my first hammock (HH) this past summer, and went on my first hang in late September to Trail of Tears State Forest in...
Thanks AndyG!
Thank you both for your responses. I'll check out Indian Point Trail. I don't believe camping is allowed at Little Grand Canyon, but it is a very nice hike.
