Looking to sew a bugnet onto my hammock, which as of now is just a simple gathered-end hammock.
I recently tore a small hole (repaired with duct tape as of now) in my bugnet (on my first trip out...), and as I don't have the money available to buy a hammock with an included bugnet, I've been...
Check out Shug's videos; those are definitely the most helpful videos for hammocks out there.
I'd include http://beardedhanger.com in there too. I got one from there, very well done and cheap for a seperate bugnet combo
Hypothetically, of course.
Yeah, I was thinking it looked a better option for a sit pad than the 1/8" foam pad. What's the warmth like compared to the gray one, and what thickness do you have of the gray one (for comparison)?
Looking for a pad to go along with a 3/4 UQ (either Jarbidge or DIY) and noticed this pad. The price is good, the size seems great (58"+15"=73"; I'm 72"), and it seems thick enough (1/2"). My...
Just noticed this tarp after a couple weeks of searching (including on the SLD site; I thought it was just a plain rectangular tarp so I never really looked at it). How good is it in terms of...
And that's why we need 10' minimum tree straps...
Not sure if it's travelsoft, the DD underblanket is a full pound lighter than Snugpak's. Maybe the weight difference is in the shell?
Looking into this as an under quilt; what do they use for the insulation? I see it weighs 33.5 oz, only a couple more than a New River, so my guess is Apex 6.0. Am I right in that?
Psh, the only time I've seen a mountain lion was swimming in the lake that our 100,000 person city is built around. They're infinitely more skittish than the deer.
I've been looking to save some money as I have a low budget (~$200 for a tarp and an under quilt) and noticed the Hex12 kit at RSBTR. The instructions seem clear enough, but would you recommend it...
Hexon 1.6 is a really good middle point. It's usually one of the cheapest materials, it's not too heavy like 2.2 but it's not too fragile like 1.1 or 1.0 fabrics.
Pretty much all hammocks you'll see on the forums. Just don't abuse them, and make sure you're safely within the weight limit.
Just noticed this underquilt while looking through their store. Seems to be the cheapest good quality full-length UQ out there. Is it worth a buy or should I look elsewhere?
Thanks everyone for responding and giving me advice! I decided to go with the 5 O'Clock Shadow from The Bearded Hanger, as well as The Beard Net as a bugnet. I chose this because it's more flexible...
So I was looking around for a good cheap underquilt, but most of them seem to run >$100, and so I started looking around the DIY areas. I'm not at all ready to make my own from scratch, but I thought...
I'm only looking at hammocks that have an integrated bugnet (GTSKP, SLD Trail Lair, and DH Darien) and for a tarp I'll probably be buying the SLD Simplicity Asym Tarp.
How low have any of you gotten the MMG Shamu underquilt? I'm looking at it as my main full-length option now, and the bottom barrier is pretty important up in Washington.
Anyone ever used a DH Darien? The Hennessy is a little too expensive for me right now unfortunately.
You may have seen my post about a first hammock (still undecided) and I don't have that much money to spend. So far, I'm only seriously considering the Jarbidge 3-season (as a 3/4 option) or a Loco...
Hmm... I'm really looking at that Simplicity Tarp, but I'm not sure if I'd have enough to buy the Trail Lair, the tarp, and a good underquilt. Is the Trail Lair better enough to justify the extra...
Yeah, I've set aside money for under and top quilts, and I can get a ENO Profly XL for $80 which would be what I would use with the GTSKP or the ENO Junglenest.
Hey all,
So I've only recently become interested in backpacking (as in enough to actually go) and I've been considering getting a hammock. So I've looked at the Grand Trunk Skeeter Beeter Pro,...
