The title has backpacking in it. I was trying to find a thermometer I could hang in my hammock but I don’t recall the exact wording of my question and I can’t get access to the thread to see it. What...
...has been moved to a forum for Donating Members only. I'm the original author and I cannot view it anymore. Shouldn't that have stayed in a free forum?
Good point. I think I am more of a cold sleeper, and this is the only insulation kit I have.
Yes. Agree :)
I've got a Warbonnet Superfly so plenty of coverage when needed.
Thank you! I've got the tarp and can do porch mode to get lots of ventilation. That makes sense. How does the under quilt protector help with condensation?
I will be backpacking for 5 days this month (Nov) in northern Arkansas. Historical average temps are 39F to 59F. Precipitation averages 4 in and average humidity is 70%, from 84% in the morning to...
Has anyone tried these type of external poles that use the panel pullouts? How do they compare to the internal poles?

I was able to get the center tie outs added :) Thank you for the suggestion! Going to hold off on the center pole mod - budget :) But there is a lot of strong endorsements in the rest of the thread...
I went ahead and ordered one of each - the Superfly and Mamajamba. I didn't get the center pole mod - don't want to carry the poles. What do you like to use the center tie out for? Anything in...
That is a good looking tarp. The Superfly comes with the seam sealer and panel pullouts also but you are right that the Journey is a little cheaper.
Thank you. The GrizzBeaks door kit looks like a good option to consider and it is a little cheaper than the door kit from Warbonnet.
Thank you for all the great inputs. I looked at the other tarp vendors that were mentioned - really helpful to see more options. Even with limited funds I want to buy from one of the cottage vendors...
I have limited funds for backpacking, like many of you I'm sure :) I have decided to use my funds this summer mostly on tarps (me and 1-2 kids). I've been using ones I made out of painter's plastic...
Thank you for the help Five Tango :)
I will bring some cord or cotton shoelaces next time. I will also make sure the strap in facing down like in the video. I would be surprised if I had them facing up but I just don't remember. Are...
I know this an old thread but I had some recent experience with the beetle buckles and spider poly straps - same setup as in video. I had the buckles under my tarp and no additional drip lines on the...
Thank you!
I haven't done the Outer Mountain Loop but have seen a few pictures. It does look very sparse :) Guadalupe was great - really enjoyed it :)
You all have definitely answered my question. My overall take-away is that I still need insulation under legs and feet, but maybe just not as much. I can move on to the next step in my hammock...
Thank you Shug. Your video was very helpful. Coincidentally the "Similar Threads" section below my post led me to this same video - nice feature of the forums. Again, thank you for the really helpful...
Thank you!
Thank you!
I like doing some testing in my backyard and taking some notes because I will definitely forget otherwise. But you are crushing me! You've done 9 nights in a row (that I can see in your screenshot)...
I also just found some good information in one of the "Similar Threads" below from Shug - https://youtu.be/D9N3KkV5Zf4?t=10m4s.
Thank you!!
Got it. Thank you Doni :)
Thank you! I really enjoyed Big Bend - incredible. We were in the Chisos Basin which has lots of trees and would work really well for hammock camping, except they don't allow it. If I go back in the...
Thank you for the reply! :)
Jacket: You don't have problems with it compressing and not insulating?
Sit pad: Does it start where your torso pad ends and go all the way to your feet?
I'm in Austin. Love getting out of the city and backpacking with my kids. Been doing it 4-5 times a year for the last four or so years. I've done a lot in the hill country around Austin - mainly...
I've read of some people using torso length pads. How do you keep your lower legs and feet warm? Are folks just not using any insulation or sticking other things under their legs and feet?
