Happy Thanksgiving to you! Thanks for all the great gear for hammocking! :D
You could try a series of butterfly knots on one line as well. They hold fast and you can create big or small loops. One of my favorite knots and they're super easy to remember.
Not being a fan of hardware I use knots whenever I can and minimize hardware as much as possible. Some I've found useful are the marlin spike w toggle, the taut line hitch, the perfection loop, the...
Like others have said there are a few factors to consider but yes, definitely go with one of the cottage vendors. I can vouch for Warbonnet and Dutch as far as hammocks go. Warbonnet will likely have...
They weigh a tad more than other options out there, but not much.
I use sticks from the forest floor and they've never failed me. ;)
Absolutely brilliant trip report. Thank you so much for sharing that. ;)
I have the MT Washington 3 and it has never let me down down :D
I like to use the titanium wasps from Dutch to adjust/tighten the tarp. They come in very handy.
IMHO it's not worth all the effort. I would just save up and buy a nice lightweight UQ from one of the fine vendors out there. There a so many options. Additionally the CDT is no longer available and...
I like to let the wind swing me with my eyes closed. It's sometimes imperceptible so it's fun to guess if I am actually moving or not and then open my eyes to check. I'm easily entertained. :D
An under-quilt makes a huge difference when it's chilly at night. I have the XLC as well and I love it. Thanks to finding this forum I skipped the sleeping pad phase of development and went straight...
Well, that was a very interesting trip report. It's possible to meet some real strange ones out there. Glad it didn't get any weirder with that first group, sheesh.
Hello, Bear! Welcome to the forum. There's lots of great information and humor here. Hope you have an awesome time this Saturday! :D
I keep my suspension separate from my hammock to avoid getting moisture and sap all over my dry hammock. I use a ziploc bag instead of a stuffsac so I can take inventory without removing it.
11 foot works just fine since your hammock will shorten up given the sag factor while your tarp is taut.
I love my warbonnet BB XL and a double layer does help with the pad so you don't have to fiddle with it from inside the hammock so much. As far as a hitch, have you explored the marlin spike with a...
Once you get it just right those little wasps are really something else. I love using them and they look cool too.
That's a very informative trip report and nice pictures to boot. Thanks for that! :D
1″ UHMWPE webbing, with marlin spike hitch with titanium toggle. 1/8 whoopies on the knot, not on the toggle (thanks, Shug) :D titanium dutch clip to a continuous loop on my hammock. Easy to adjust...
I'm about the same weight and use the Warbonnet Blackbird XLC heavy weight dual layer and it works very well. To be extra safe I use the 1/8th vs the 7/64th whoopie slings as well. Have fun!
Wow these are really cool and inspiring. A man of many talents obviously! Thanks for sharing these. :boggle:
Nice setup, btw is that a Rhodesian Ridgeback? I used to have one, wonderful pup.
Hey, Jay! Welcome to the forum, hope you find it useful in your endeavors. Gear acquisition is definitely part of the fun. :D
Hello from Minnesota! Welcome to the forum. Tons of information and enthusiastic hammockers here. :)
Wow that's very exciting news, can't wait to see what goodies come from this development. :D
Welcome to HF! Glad to see a new hammock interested person here on this forum. Hope you have fun and greetings from Minnesota.
Welcome! Would love to see some pictures of your DIY gear...
Greetings from Minnesota, Tara! ! !
2QZQ will probably have what you're looking for in an UQ protector
It shouldn't be too difficult to find some sticks to use as poles for porch-mode. That way you don't have to pack any. I'm always...
If I could only have one UQ it would be the Mt Washington 4 from Jacks R Better.
If I were your size I'd go with the Dutchwaregear Chameleon for the quality and price. But I'm not, so I had to go with the more expensive Warbonnet. I do love my Blackbird XLC double but I also like...
Welcome to the forum, there is a lot of good information here that you may find useful if hammock camping interests you. Have fun!
Agreed Smckinney0031, Shug has some very entertaining and informative videos. Highly recommend in addition to the book.

First time in a canoe my buddy had me sit up front and I weigh about 100 lbs more than he does. We were on Lake Pokegama and it was quite choppy that evening. I had my wallet and cellphone in my...
This is genius, I love making knots! I'll be doing this immediately, thanks!
How long can one keep a down quilt compressed before it starts to degrade the quality?
Wow, a sewn-on under-quilt, wish I'd thought of that.
Greetings, Mel and welcome from MN. :)
Greetings from Minnesota! Hammock camping in the redwoods sounds like an absolute dream. Been through the Avenue of the Giants once and had the time of my life there.
Very cool. I need one for sure.
The perfection loop doesn't slip either.
Hello to you, Jonas! Ely is a wonderful place. Great choice on the Jacks R Better Greylock..:)
Hello, I'm Pete and I'm sort of new here. From the information gleaned from this forum I decided to buy from different vendors that were recommended by these forums. Here's some details...
In the...
Just wondering if you plan on bringing this back. I could use some more. Or is there another similar product to replace it with?
Thanks ;)
Very cool. I like that there are so many color variations to choose from. :D
Great video! It's nice to see the other side of the lake. It's quite beautiful, I'll have to make the drive sometime ( I'm always on the north shore)
I usually shoot for 14 of my feet heel to toe give or take a foot and 5-6 inches diameter at least for the tree size. :D
Hey! Happy Birthday!! What a great way to celebrate!
