Is there a head count? It’s hard to figure food out including others. Will we be cooking on a grill over the fire?

The last time we were out I stashed a bunch of cut wood. Hopefully it will still be there
I plan on being there Friday. I’ll be looking into something to bring along
Thanks Tumble for the hospitality, Tad from Hammock Gear for the raffle (good to reconnect after many years ), wonderful to see old buddies and meet the many Jims and others Special mention...
Found it With a little help from my friend
Is there a spread sheet? Neil and I should be there
Hey and if you really want an experience, check out the river walk, it’s beautiful and you can camp under lower Wacker Dr with the rest of the campers
If transportation is what you need from Chicago than the metra I think can get to very close to the Indiana dunes. I was up at the Nordhouse Dunes recently which is open camping. Unfortunately it’s...
It was drive your tractor to church day . There were a few old beauties there. Very much enjoyed the company and relaxation
If you’ve never used the cabins you probably would be pleasantly surprised. They supply the wood, bunks, table, pots, pans, utensils, broom, mop and your own personal outhouse . You bring candles or...
I’ll be roughing it in Whitetail cabin next week. Unfortunately the snow conditions are low this year. Spoke the other day with the ranger and was told 12” inland and less by the lake. I have never...
So goofy me didn’t realize it was this weekend. All the holiday festivities have caused quite the distraction. I have plans already, but will see if they can be changed. It’s going to be warm and...
I was tired of Prussic knots in the cold and bought the Claws. Liked how easy they are to use. Definitely not for gram weenies, but well worth their weight to me. Contrybois, just like you I hook it...
Rocking! Used them for the first time. So much better than a prussic knot, especially in the cold
Even just an in and out for the first few trips works very well. Makes you feel comfortable knowing the route taken. Besides the trail always looks a little different going the opposite direction :)...
My personal belief is an 11' tarp with an 11' hammock. If set up properly there is more than enough coverage. If you use a 12' tarp then the hammock hangs lower to accommodate the hammock suspension....
Oh and just for the record, Mark doesn't snore ;)
I had a fun evening hanging with the group. Thanks Goobie and any others that helped make that happen. Turkey was great as well as the pineapple upside down cake. Look forward to sharing a fire again...
I personally like younger, small tree groves. Wind swept tree line areas are free and clear of widow makers. They are also not as tall and more stout.
Nice pictures. It was not in the cards for me this weekend. Glad you were all safe with the temps as they were.
Have you seen these yet? https://www.namagear.com/product-page/cord-claw I just received them and looking forward to using them, particularly on cold days when it’s difficult to slid prussic knots...
I believe I am available either weekend at this point. Kids could alter that, we'll see. Also will be watching the weather. Need to be around for work in severe weather. I am a boiler guy after all ;)
I am unable to make it. I enjoyed the hiking the Bong, nice place. Unfortunately there won't be much football to talk about. Well maybe if you are a Bears fan ;)
Great food and fun! Company wasn't bad either ;) Thanks Mark for all the extra you put in :)
I will be there. Going to bring a potato medley to go along with the pig
Just saw this, but wouldn't have made it anyhow. My daughter is in town ;). Working on the October hang. It's my B-day weekend :)
I know this is super old, but the I&M trail by Channahan is about the best open camping in the area. Check out the future hang coming up.
Try to find a stand of smaller, younger trees. I always prefer it.
I've always used a 10' tarp with a 10' hammock and so on. To long of a tarp will make it harder to suck up (hang higher) into the tarp when the extra protection is needed due to wind, rain or snow.
Looks like a nice time with beautiful weather.
HaHaHa, you guys are killing me
Graduations and college moving weekend for me, I'm out. Have fun!
Fish down
HaHaHa, you look like Santa out of control
This is my new UGQ Winter dream. Single exterior pole with a center ridgeline tie-out. There were several hot tents at the hang, but only got one picture. I enjoyed hiking around Lake Hamlin as well...
So it looks like a go for me. If I recall, there was an outlet that you used for hot water. I'm thinking about bringing a crock pot.
Yep, what he said ^ :)
You make it look easy
It's not the length of the tarp that makes it better, it's the width. If you want to set the tarp higher so you can walk around easily underneath it and still want side coverage, that's where the...
Really enjoyed the hang. Good to see friends and meet new ones. Nice pictures Joe! If any of you others wish to join us, understand, "you won't like it" ;)
I'll have pics soon
So I'm reading this post backwards, page by page. I was worried about food . I can bring a little more bacon. I also have a few burgers, brats and of course plan on making the potatoes.
I got my little red wagon :). Planning on Friday morning
Nice tarp and good job on the video. So much room, it's amazing.
Merry Christmas Dutch :)
It is really funny how there are so many different opinions on this matter. Each of us have had different experiences. That being said, I've tried a sock and a hammock with a top cover. Both had...
Went out last weekend, with I believe temps in the 20's. What I have decided it to use larger cord for the ridgeline for my winter tarp. I use Zing-it all around at the present time. I found it...
Wish I could have made this hang. You all have a great time.
There are so many fun ways to hang a tarp. This is what I have been playing with. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DDvUjXUOYw8. If you don't wish to go this different, you can do a continuous ridge...
Put me in as a maybe. It's my busy time at work.
