I used to love to whittle when I was his age and could pass hours doing it. I like AlanH's suggestion though; might as well teach and practice outdoor/survival skills while in the outdoors.
I guess this person knows how to use ENO hammocks better than ENO.

Great thanks to both of you.
Does anyone know what kind of sil poly is used in the hanger tarps? It seems there are a few different varieties with different attributes.
Western Mountaineering sells a -40, -30 and a -25 bag. http://www.westernmountaineering.com/sleeping-bags/gore-windstopper-expedition-series/bison-gws/
I'm 5'6" as well and was wondering if anyone my size has any experience with a short EE enigma and how it fits?
Yeah. I don't have another gathered end hammock to compare it to. Just a 1.1 Ridgerunner.
I have a Kelty Noah 12' that I've used all of 2 times (purchased new last year) in my back yard. It doesn't have the guy lines but I believe I still have the stakes it came with (not at home to check...
I just got a 1.6 Hexon from dutchware and haven't had much time in it but I feel very little stretch if any. I weight 130 Lbs so that is probably the reason.
Check out dutchwaregear.com I know their site says a 1.6 supports 285 and they sell a 2.4 which probably might support up to 350 lbs but I would email him first. I'm sure there are other vendors as...
Thank your for the quick response.
I was thinking of getting a hanger 11 in SilPoly but wasn't sure if 11 foot was adequate for an 11 foot dutchware hammock with ridgeline. Also I see the option for cat cut but not sure if SilPoly...

WB Ridgerunner 1.1 double layer with webbing and cinch buckles
I've used this once in my back yard and on a two night trip. I'm asking $190, shipping is included, it is in perfect condition and...
JRB Shenandoah ontop and the pluq on the bottom. The best way to test what works best for you is to just try it in the backyard in the temps it will be used most.
you can find info here to make an...
I'll be there on the 26th and as my first solo hike this was a big help and I enjoyed watching. thanks for sharing.
I'd probably do the same. That's ridiculous.
Snake skins for the tarp can help deploy and stow the tarp very quickly.

What camo pattern is that? It looks like it would disappear in the woods. I'd be afraid I'd walk away from my hammock and not be able to find it again. :)
I've been camping when my clothing was very slightly damp and it didn't matter how warm I was in my bag the damp clothing sapped all the heat and made things miserable.
Did you change out of you...
I've used these blue tarps several times when car camping and they work fine. I wouldn't really want to take one on a multi day backpacking trip due to weight and bulk.
If they were exploding rabid man eating cows then you would have a Michael Bay movie. I'd still watch it though.
Definitely between the layers. Never had a problem with it shifting around when I do this. Like others have mentioned the hammock feels a little wider with the pad vs without.
Simple but very good idea. Thanks for sharing.
My mind instantly went to the height of those straps. Thats some impressive hanging there.
Can I ask where you hiked. I'm planning on heading up to the White Mountains on the 26th for 3 days / 2 nights but have decided 100% where I'd like to go as I've never been there before.
I believe 70D is 1.9
Thanks for sharing. I was actually wondering about this the other day.
When I was a kid my parents got me and my brother these tents that were made to go over our beds and I remember thinking how cool those were but this is even better. Nice work!
Definitely has this easter egg feel to it with that color combo.
I have a ridgerunner as well and was wondering why the poles at the head end are larger in diameter as well. I had planned on using hiking poles as a substitute in the future but smaller diameter...
Definitely would have made my morning. Thanks for sharing.
Soo tempting.... grrr!
My wife had almost the exact same report when she tried her first overnight in a hammock. For now she has decided to go back to the tent.
I feel the same. I tried with and without a pad in my double layer bridge hammock. It feels comfortable enough for now as there are other things I'd like to spend the money on. Eventually I'll get a...
I love his videos. Very simple cheap solutions to survival in the outdoors.
Looks like lots of fun. Thanks for sharing.
Welcome from Maine. That trailer is pretty cool but almost polar opposite of a hammocking so I can see why you sold it.
I was thinking this as well. I have no experience with a gathered end hammock and a sleeping bag but I haven't had much trouble getting in a sleeping bag in a bridge hammock and then adjusting it or...
Seems like something they should address to avoid confusion. I would let them know this as whoever Administers the site should be able to fix this by updating thier DNS records for both URLs to point...
I just tried this in IE 11 and Chrome on my PC and had the same issue until I cleared all browser data. It works fine on the Chrome browser running on my phone as I've never been there before.
Those cable locks are 1 step up from having nothing as they can be basically be cut in half with a multi tool very quickly. Locks are really only a visual deterrent for someone thats just looking for...
Definitely something to be proud of there. Nice work!
I felt a noticeable difference using a 40 degree bag with and without pad while temps were in the 60's.
Nice work and howdy from Maine. Did you get this from a local surplus store?
It's definitely best to test this at home or close to a car before relying gear at certain temperatures when retreat isn't possible. :)
Looks of good info in the DIY forums sticky section. https://www.hammockforums.net/forum/showthread.php?15205-Instruction-Gathered-End-Hammock
Thats a nice looking rig and I really like that color. How has removing 2" affected the comfort? Is it just that the material is spread out more using the same bars?
