Is this the Guardian bug net or something else?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N920A using Tapatalk
Used mine this past weekend -- temps dropped to ~34°F but I stayed toasty in sweatpants and t-shirt! Feet were warm with no socks, and that is generally a problem for me. I also discovered a bonus...
After trying the balaclava, it was just too uncomfortable for me to sleep in. However, I noticed that if I pulled it all the way down so it was just covering my neck and I wore a stocking cap), I...
Interesting -- I've seen several people here say that nanoseeum gets pretty stuffy.
I'm talking about something like this.
Bigger holes == better air circulation == less trapped heat (at least that's my feeling).
Ok, let me start by saying I can't stand bug nets. I love being out in the open. However, camping in Georgia, I do have to use them during the summer months (I'm not a mosquito magnet, but they'll...
Same! I got mine today, showed it to my wife and she's curled up on the couch with it. Looks like I might be buying another one...

Yeah, I guess I should've said - I'm in Georgia camping with the Boy Scouts, so we're talking down or freezing or maybe a bit below. Nothing like Shug's ice age pix. [emoji1]

Thanks for linking that thread -- lots of good ideas there as well!
I've done a little poking around and found this at my local REI. For $27 (and the hassle-free return policy), I think I'll give it a shot. It's fleece and has the neoprene mask, so hopefully will...
Got it. I had originally scratched that option since I was planning on a long with stripping (so I could pull it over my head) but now I'm starting to lean towards the balaclava route, so it might...
Yeah, I had a beard for most of my life. Unfortunately, I met my wife while I was interviewing for jobs, so I was "cleaned up". She now considers that my default appearance. :scared:
I was...
I find when the temps drop close to or below freezing, the two main problems for me are my feet and my face. Feet are fixed by extra socks and putting a jacket around the end of my sleeping bag...
Wondering this as well. My next trip is 3 weeks out, but figured that there was no way I could get one that quickly. Did you buy one of the ones they had in stock as opposed to a custom?
I tend to pull my quilt up high and get a lot of breath on it, so that's why I was thinking about the stripping.
Getting ready to pull the trigger on one of these myself -- did you get the 10D or 20D? And with or without the weather-resistant stripes?
Agreed. I could never get a double-fishermans tied without wasting a ton of shock cord. Zepplin bend ties quick and easy and can be adjusted easily before setting to minimize waste.
I used this and it worked great until it got cold and the prussiks jammed on me. I'm back to Derek's setup now.
Just to show I actually have it now , here's a few pics of it set up in the backyard. Since most of my tarp rigging is wherever my superfly is hiding, I had to scavenge some new setups...
I saw a lot of people say they were going to try this, but never saw any reports. And this thread it pretty old. I had been using a homemade version of this that eventually fell apart (poor...
I ordered a Tadpole last Friday (6 days ago). I did get an immediate email confirmation and I went to the website andcan see the invoice there. However, I couldn't find an email address or any...
Interesting. I was thinking that I would eventually get the door kit and then if the Superfly ever turned up, I would just sell the Superfly and always use the edge -- decided whether or not to...
Doh! How did I miss that? Thanks!
Leaning heavily towards the Edge now. Although intrigued by some of the SilPoly offerings... *sigh* Time to go dig through more boxes hoping to find the...
It was actually one of your older posts that had me concerned about the rings. But as you said, I guess I could add the rings. The thing I kind of like about the Tadpole is that I could add doors...
I just realized that you all have been say SilPoly -- I was reading that as SilNylon since I didn't even know that SilPoly was a thing (spent too long away from here I guess). From my 5 minutes of...
Heh, I was doing the same thing and was thinking about switching to something else, too. Never thought about leaving it on the tarp!
Thanks for all the recommendations, everyone!
Question for the tadpole fans: I really like using Dutch stingerz to hang my ridgeline. The tiny rings on the superfly/edge work well with that. ...
So, I've used my Superfly for a long time and been pretty happy with it. However, in our recent move, it's gone AWOL. It may turn up eventually, so I don't want to buy another one, but I'd been...
That's great news -- thanks for the quick reply and don't work too hard!
LOL - that's why I buy gift cards. It's worth the extra $5 to not have to deal with spousal grief. ;)
Hey Paul, I know you guys are probably pretty backed up by now, but how quickly are...
Woo-hoo! I missed this last year -- not going to miss it this time. It's time to retire the PLUQ!
Me too :(
Time to set a calendar reminder for next year!
I've actually just switched to this. I had used a CRL until I got my SF, when I switched to a non-continuous. I found that it was more difficult for me to get the tarp centered properly with a...
For those who use the microfleece, like the JRB summer blanket, how easy is it to get in and out of? I tried using this microfiber liner and it was a disaster - it was so clingy! Is the...
I lost my tarp suspension on my last campout so while I was replacing that, I decided to go ahead and go for the whoopie hook suspension as well.
I'll be the voice of dissent here -- I have a 11' PolyD with a SRL and a 11' SF tarp. In the rain, it's very close -- to the point where I was not comfortable. That said, I am using traditional...
I'm using this same setup (except it's an 11' Dutch PolyD) and find it takes a lot of fiddling to set it up right. Last weekend was my first time setting it up in the rain, and I got pretty...
Ahh... *slaps forehead* now I get it. I didn't think about the fact that you could move the loops. Somehow I got it in my head that the loops wouldn't move from hammock to hammock. This is a nice...
With the MSH, I kept moving it from spot to spot (as I hung different places). It was the multiple crimps that bothered me. (Also made it hard to neatly pack it away.)
I think it's getting...
I'm a fan -- I got to the buckles after multiple MSH's started crimping my webbing. I know it didn't hurt anything, but it just aggravated the OCD in me. :)
But now having two adjustment points...
Yeah, I get it.
Unfortunately, that's too expensive of a route for me. With multiple hammocks, it just makes more sense for me to have one set of hooks.
Ah, I see now -- it's just whether your hook is in the loop or the sling. Seems like a toe-may-toe/toe-mah-toe thing.
Is the hole big enough that you can thread the hook onto it in loop form, or do you have to thread the hook on the amsteel before you create the loop?
Thanks all -- not sure why I was worried. I was concerned that there might be a special trick or "gotcha" to worry about, but it looks like that's not the case.
I apologize if this is already here somewhere, but a brief search didn't come up with anything. But I think this is probably something that has been discussed before.
I'm wanting to convert from...
Yeah, I'm kind of in limbo right now because I'm still using dutch buckles and whoopie slings. I was getting ready to switch to whoopie hooks when speed hooks were first unveiled, so I held off. If...
Too late!
So glad to find this thread -- I was coming to post about a similar problem.
I've been comfy as can be in my ENO DN, but switched to an 11' PolyD for the weight savings. However, I've been...
Update:
So, as I mentioned, I did end up stuffing my pluq with APEX. Here's some shots of it before:

The APEX

(My PLUQ is a new-sew, gatefold style, which makes this a bit...
Thanks, all. I think for now, I'm going to try and do what brino did and shove it between the layers of my PLUQ and see how it works next weekend. If it works well, I'll stick with that for now. ...
