I made a 13 footer with HyperD XL almost 10 years ago. Super comfortable. I still use it for my back yard lounging hammock.
I will frequently wake up in my bed with a sore back. When I switch to the hammock that I keep hanging in the spare room I get instant relief from my back pain.
When I lay in the hammock my legs are on the left side. Because I lay at a pretty good angle, the underquilt does not make good contact with my right leg and my right leg gets cold. I connect a shock...
I have a piece of hammock fabric that is 134” long. I want my finished hammock to be as long as possible. Does anyone have advice on how I can make the end channel use as little fabric possible to...
I agree. Evo loop all the way.
I have occasional apnea. I don’t use a cpap. My symptoms are much less less while sleeping in a hammock.
If you’re tall a 12’ hammock can give you a significantly flatter lay.
I’ve spliced some 1mm line from Emma Kites. I use it for prussic knots that never slip on my continuous ridgeline.
My underquilt protector helps keep cool breezes off my backside when I go underquilt free.
Thanks to inspiration from Jeff Myers’ YouTube channel my hammock setup is now “bling” free.
I have a diy 12 ft HyperD XL and a diy 12 ft Hexon wide hammock. I am 6’4” and 215 lbs. The HyperD hammock is my go to for comfort every time.
What’s the maximum safe weight a hammock in this material could hold?
Do you have any problems with the j-bend slipping?
AliExpress has 55% off with free shipping on UHMWPE cord (similar to Amsteel).

I've got a 12' long 58" wide Hexon 1.6 and a 12' 70" wide HyperD XL gathered end hammock. I'm 6'4" 215 lbs. Both are comfortable but the extra width on the XL gives me a better lay.
Since weight and tarp coverage is not a concern I would use a 13’ long, Hyper-D XL.
Very nice. Do you have a drawing with dimensions you could share?

Sometimes these rating services want the business to pay them money in exchange for displaying the better ratings.
Do you have a scale drawing of your DynaFly you could post?
Looks good. I’m trying to go hardware free in my suspension. I think I’ll try that. Thanks for labeling the hand in your drawing.
I’ve been trying to design mine.
I like to look and see what other people on the forum have done, learn from them, and then try to innovate something a little different. Sometimes it turns out great, sometimes not so much. Either...
Nice innovation. I think I’ll have to try that. The Velcro always seems to snag on my underquilt. Drawstring May be the way to go.
You could replace one of your Whoopie slings with a strap. Replace the continuous loop at the hammock on each end with a button knot soft shackle. The Button knot soft shackle connects directly to...
When you sew the rectangular patch at the ridgeline is the leading edge of the patch sewn into the door hem?
I made an extra long underquilt protector for my 12’ long hammock. My main goal was to stop wind from blowing through my underquilt and it works pretty well.

Where do you buy your 1mm dyneema?
He’s also got some good diy videos on YouTube. I just made a continuous ridgeline for my tarp using his methods. Instead of soft shackles the connections are made with button knots and continuous...
At 6'4" 215 lbs I can't sleep comfortably in an 11' long, 58" wide hammock. I have a 12' 58" wide hexon from Dutch which is better, but my most comfortable hammock is a DIY 12' long 70" wide HyperD.
Some of the design choices that have to be made are the angle of the door (angle b in my drawing) and length of the door (line c). A wider angle b would extend the doors out further. A narrower angle...
Your tarp looks great. I’ve been trying to design one for myself. Would you happen to have a drawing of the dimensions that you could post?
If you’re tall full width might be nice.
Check out Myerstech on Facebook.
Does anyone know the dimensions for the triangle thingie for a full length underquilt?
Can you splice it?
Where do you get the 300lb Dyneema fishing line?
A lot of the people who make soft shackles professionally for sailing, slack lining, etc. use the button knot that Myers describes because it is so reliable. It is a challenge to learn though.
I use soft links as described in the video. They connect to my Whoopies quickly and securely.
I kind of wonder if the new UHMWPE webbing will make tree huggers, whoopies, buckles, etc. obsolete. It's very light weight. All you need is a piece of UHMWPE webbing with a loop on one end around...
I agree on Myers. I’ve tried several of his suspension ideas. Check out all of his YouTube videos.

Here is a good video showing method of trying tree strap to loop.

1/4” wil be pretty heavy and expensive. You could consider 1/8 or 3/16 amsteel. Dutch has both sizes.
I like your photos of details. Helps me understand how you put everything together.
I guess I'll just have to order my whoopie hooks from Walmart then.
Good to know about your major tear. I always thought the grosgrain ridge line was bombproof.
I get slothful but I seem to be missing out on the hedonistic part.
When I tie a becket hitch with 1” poly straps it seems to slip frequently. I have to tie an overhand knot with the loop to feel safe.
I've seen both cinch bugs and beetle buckles both mentioned on this thread. I'm not sure I know what the difference is.
After I tie the becket hitch I tie an overhand knot with the hitch. Holds well.
