I've always used the Klymit Insulated V air mattress in my hammock. It is very comfortable...
Here's a link to the one I made.

It's not a single point chair, but it sure is...
Thank you sir. The only hammock I've ever laid in that was as comfortable is my big man's bridge with a pad pocket for the same Klymit V.
The lowest I've taken my Klymit V is 38ish. I was quite comfy but I also use a 3/8" ccf for side insulation. Here's a pic pic of my diy 11ft., 65 in wide GE with a built in SPE.

Here's the link to my built in SPE GE hammock from the pic above...
Yes my own creation. I've taken that combo down to 38f with a steady 15mph breeze at night. So I would call this a 3 season option. The pad is a Klymit V. The side panels are 1/2" closed cell...
You mean like this?

I would not trust a pvc cross bar. It will flex too much and over time (especially with uv/weather degradation) it could snap dropping you to ground with the tri-pods collapsing inward. Not good...
[/QUOTE]Thanks! I have thought about using my space blanket on top of my quilt ( used as an IQ per above), but it might be a real hassle to get it positioned unless it was attached to the...
You could also use some reflectix instead of the WM pad. It is lighter and would (theoretically) reflect any heat loss back up thru the inflatable pad. Plus you can easily fold it into multiple width...
Thanks for clarifying SilvrSurfr. I understand your position on pads. Just wanted to point out that ccf and inflatable pads can be completely different experiences. I have and use both my Klymit and...
SSurfr - were your pad days with an insulated inflatable mattress or the closed cell foam pads most people talk about?
Great video Shug! Question... When did you get Chuck Norris to do videos for you?
Yup. No worries. Works on the ground too.
My Klymit air mattress never slips.... once I sewed a pocket for it my hammock:

In short, yes. Foam pads may give you condensation so have a plan for that possibilty. I use an air mattress most of the time and have never had condensation issues. But I don't go out when it gets...
Guys just be careful using those cast aluminum end caps. They are brittle (cast) and not designed to handle a lot of stress. I put an eye bolt thru my top rail and use the end caps to tie off my rain...
I too have made and used both stands. Oldpappy is dead on with his assessment...

Changed to Chrome browser and got some pics to upload. Hope that helps...
Despite repeated attempts, I am unable to upload pics to this forum now. Sorry MBoater I can't give you what you asked for...

MBoater,
Thanks for your interest I'm my camp recliner. I still enjoy its comfort after a long day of hiking!
But I must admit it is not easy to use for ground sitting. I know there is a...
Nicely done OTD...
Thanks for the great video Shug! You really are a talented person...
No pad wrangling here. Just floating air bed comfort!

If you have minimal DIY skills and a s sewing machine, try this:

Drops of silicone caulk will help keep it in place
Your welcome Mark. Glad I could provide some level of inspiration for your efforts. :)

Here's the one I made 2 years ago. I prefer my Klymit air pad over my UQ. No shoulder pinch, no calf ridge, and very very comfortable!

Sorry, here's the link to my hammock chair (nicknamed The Camp Recliner) build. This morning my...
If you search "Recliner" in the DIY section you will see my post (called Camp Recliner) and pics from the chair I developed 2 years ago. I included the DIY instructions in the thread. Hope it...
I would suggest the rectangle one. You will need some pad overlap to help keep you warm.
Ditto OTD... just insert "Klymit Insulated Satic V" where he says exped (for me). When air pads are used properly everything he says I confirm.

My opinion is 4oz isn't worth the risk of having one or more cold sleepless nights. My insulated Klymit V (4.4R) has kept me warm both on and above ground. How about a backyard trial?
I have purchased two of them and one Costco throw. Big difference is the Sam's version is 50 x 60 versus 60 x 70 at Costco. Squares are the same size tho...
What he ^^^^^ said...
Truth be told... I never would have tried hammock camping if I could sleep in a tent on an air mattress.
My Insulated V has taken me to 30f
Thanks Shug. I like it but me thinks keeping it in the same place for us restless sleepers might be difficult. They need to offer a hammock with the pad pocket like the one I made...

I made a gathered end hammock for my Klymit Insulated V. For me it's more comfortable than an UQ. I'm a side sleeper and toss and turn more than 5 times every night. This set up keeps me warm down to...
I got rid of my Turtle Dog and made the Bipod stand outlined here in the DIY section. It was silly easy to make and can be configured to meet your needs. Plus it only cost $60 - $75. Search bipod...
Thanks for the video! Lost Maples just landed on my radar too... I bet it was a Pronghorn you saw. Fastest land animal in North America.
There's always Cross Timbers at Lake Texoma.
:drool::drool: VERY JEALOUS! :drool::drool:
That looks really nice BigE... You could put a recliner and flat screen tv under there and watch some Saturday college football!
Thanks to the OP and everyone else that shared in this thread. Since seeing this design, Ive really wanted to try it and retire my TD stands. They are more bulky and less versatile in my opinion....
Howdy from Plano!
Video or it didn't happen...
Bill,
I love the size of that air pad. But tubes running parallel to your body is not ideal for a GE hammock. It will tend to slide out of the hammock at the feet end. It may be ok in a Bridge if...
Sierra Nevadas, PCT, Paria, All of the southern half of Utah, Guadalupe NP, Yosemite NP, and so on... The western half of the US is filled with trails that stretch above the tree line on mountains....
Completely agree about the R Value. 1.6 is too low. It's good to see a company innovate in the Hammock camping market. But I think they missed the mark. They should design thier own hammock with a...
Thanks for the pics Toothpick. It's nice to know important info like that for future trip plans.
