For 40-50 degrees I just use a poncho liner.
I never jumped on the full sock bandwagon, but I do drape things over my ridgeline to create an enclosed space. Usually, I use a poncho liner, but I'll probably sew up some 1.9 ripstop one day for...
The Kelty's are freaking tanks, and if you aren't backpacking long distances they aren't a bad option even at that weight and they have some nice flexibility if you want to use them in non-hammock...
I have a DIY sleeping bag liner made from taslan fabric. It has a nice feel to it, doesn't weigh much, can be used in the winter for additional comfort, and is perfect for those 70 and up nights here...
I find it easier to sew a rolled hem than try to keep sil fabric and grosgrain aligned and moving through my presser foot.
As a 6' tall adult I 'can' sleep in an 8.5' hammock in warmer weather. It's not my first choice, but I can and have done it. Why not try that. You'll need 3 yards of fabric to make a 7' hammock...
I may try one in Tyvek :)
Enjoy! I bet you are going to love it :)
Good work! I've been toying with the idea of making an UQP and this is a good prod to make me do it.
Excellent work! Pioneering skills come in handy :)
Impressive!
Just tossing it out but I like my 90"X132" crinkle taffeta tablecloth hammock indoors. I may actually trim it down a little narrower just to get rid of the floppy sides, but it feels great otherwise....
They have the 2 packs online for $39 right now ( $10 off the regular online price ).
I have my indoor hammock hanging on EVO loops. Very handy devices.
Do you mind sharing your technique?
I love it! What vendor did you use on eBay if you don't mind me asking?
What fabric did you use? Was it full width?
I like your clewed hammock. Is that a DIY or did you purchase it that way ?
I'll counter with although I know what a UCR is, I don't know what it stands for. So I would be unable to spell it out so to speak. I also don't think it's a secret handshake.
Most people in this...
Yeah. I'm 6' and my 'regular' Jungle Blanket is fine as a throw, but it's a bit short for a full quilt for me. Love it though for other purposes.
Is the Jungle blanket long enough for an effective TQ?
I larkshead usually. I've never had a 'knob' fail on me, but I do make sure when I build these that I have lots of fabric there ( usually 3 layers at least ), and I usually gather with paracord so...
I've actually made about a dozen of these. Some don't have the slider, and I just hang the loop over the knot. I like the finished look of the knot though so I'm adding them :)
Thanks for all you...
I have no answers but that is a cool looking structure !

Inspired by Tacblades's cool work. Made from 750 paracord with all knots. Obviously not for suspension. Do not hang from these!
I got an inexpensive Brother off Amazon a few years ago and it's great. I use straight stitch, zig zag, and bartack stitch on it and it does fine.
Anybody got a picture of this in action ?
Get them all. You will eventually anyway.
I have 5 camo hammocks ( about to be 6 when I sew up the woodland HyperD I got a while back ), neon green, white, 3 blues, red, olive yellow, purple, 2...
I have a 3 panel Yukon I like quite a bit for only one reason. If I get in just the right position the head end outer panel acts like a neck support. Except for that condition I tend to stay in the...
Nice work - as always. I even like the little mesh bag to store it.
Soft shackles keep working their way into my notice. it may be time to do watch your videos and make my own.
I hang under my back deck a few times a year testing equipment. The train comes through town about once an hour every hour of the night and the horn bothered me until I started sleeping with ear...
I wouldn't hang on a 4X4 post
Agreed. I played around with paper models and came up with some simple ideas, but I think if I play with some angles I could come up with something better.
It may be time to make some mockups with...
Oddly enough I've been debating making a smaller version of something similar for the asym I am wanting to build. Trying to figure out the max coverage I can get from 1 yard of fabric. Basically...
Nothing to be afraid of. I hadn't used a sewing machine in 30+ years. A few years back I ordered an inexpensive Brother off of Amazon, watched a lot of youtube videos, and started making stuff sacks....
I second this! jellyfish has great step by step instructions on using a sewing machine to make hammock gear.
I've had luck in my house repelling ants with peppermint extract and/or tea tree oil. I keep a little bottle of mixed Dr Bronner's peppermint and tea tree oil liquid castille soap in my camp gear for...
Depends on how I'm camping.
Car Camping:
- in camp chair under tarp
Backpacking:
- in ridgeline gear hammock -or- ( favorite )
- slung over ridgeline -or-
- in stuff sack under hammock (...
There have been some guys making tensahedron stands from 2x2s.
A tripod lashing would be the rope work required for lashing them up. Are you planning on making this like a turtledog stand and...
Yours looks great. I may cut one down and try this.
Not hammock related but when I married my wife she was living in her parents house in our town as they lived a few hundred miles away as her dad finished his career with GMC. He had a tremendous John...
Excellent. I get it now. Impressive. You are taking the tarp game to the next level.

I sketched out how I understood this - Imagine my straight sides are cat cuts. So you end up with a symmetrical pentagon shape where the dashed line on my drawing is the seam. The small 'x'...
I'm 6' and can sleep OK in a hammock as short as 8.5' if it's full width. That said those hammocks are fussier with my pads and quilts. Stuff tends to start trying to exit out the foot end of my...
Can't wait to see what comes out of the Cowboy Skunkworks !
Knotty mod solves floppy sides without having to do much engineering.
That said there is nothing wrong with trying things out. If you have a minute look for a user Snowball's posts. A few years...
Even details of a project you end up scrapping help us. It could keep someone from running down the wrong trail on a project.
Looks good to me. Please do put it out for sharing when you feel it is complete.
Genius! I have the materials to make a wide asym and I like the added functionality your design incorporates.
I have a few I've made. Depending on the hammock use I've made them different sizes ... some as small as 1'x2' that are basically just big enough to hold my pocket clutter and a Gatorade bottle in my...
