I've found that to be true with my hanging. But I am a really hot sleeper, so your milege may vary... @25f a 10deg underquilt or so + 40deg bag kept me very warm, I had to vent multiple times during...
For mine I made a small square with grosgrain (1/4") by sewing 4 pc together to make the box. Sewed that to the bottom of the bag, then used a blade to cut an "X" into the ripstop inside the newly...
using too fine of a needle for the heavier thread will cause that too I've found... The smaller eye puts too sharp a bend in the thread when driving through the tough materials we're using and it...
Thats a great deal...
thanks!
Blueskies took care of me on the amsteel, I think we're set there, but thanks a bunch for the offer lazyboy.
The generosity and willing to help of this forum is amazing.
thanks guys!
Wow thanks a lot guys. I'll be sure to get some pics of him modeling the setup next time we head out and set it up.
Converted a friend on the last camping trip to hanging and so I'm trying to get him setup for the next trip with as much of his own gear as I can.
I made him a 10.5x5 hammock out of some nice ACU...
Here's a photo of the 2nd hammock I've made out of the stuff... First one ended up with a buddy already!

It was white.
They may or may not have it when you go. They are a bulk buy type place. They buy overstock or in bulk of things then sell it. Its not like a regular fabric shop where you can rely...
one I picked up (off the top of the box) was 9+ yards, and the other I grabbed that was neatly folded like the rest under it was 12 (and a bit)yards. Each bundle under it felt to be the same...
Just thought I'd post a heads up on a great deal for some material for hammocks, sacks etc...
Its 2oz yard ACU Pattern nylon. Its not Ripstop, but is quite strong. I just made a quick 10.5x5...
Yeah, that is my new 2wt I built with a lot of help from my buddy over at Southwest Custom Rods. Its a fatter two tone half wells grip, and a nice reel seat. We decided not to put the insert in the...
A buddy and I took advantage of Superbowl insanity and hit the Rim in hopes it would be quiet while the rest of the state sat in front of the bigscreen watching M.I.A. flip off the nation on Live TV,...
Janome is a very good name in machines, both industrial and the quilter crowd... Sounds like you got a good deal, enjoy!
I'll take the Steripen if its not spoken for.. PM incoming.
Lol, I'm not telling! :)
I'd be all over this for the wife but she wants the purple one and wont budge, lol.. good packs!
What kind of hike in are you looking at? I'm not sure I'm ready yet for a mid winter hang, but I might be able to gear up quickly...
Thanks everyone for the compliments.
It works great, I spent the night in it last night and was very toasty all night. It didn't get too cold, about 40f, but had a steady breeze all night and had...
Using a Kelty 12x12 and had tons of extra room, I think a 10x12 would be fine.

Daughter was watching Aladin the other night and the genie character played by Robin Williams _WAS_ a hammock during one scene... lol
So the wife and I spent an afternoon recovering the down out of the old sleeping bag I had as it was just "too much" to really use easily as-is...
...
Here is a good video showing a complete setup, it looks very stable... he's using a commercial ground anchor. While not the most ultra light, you could modify his setup to use lighter materials. ...
I'll disagree that what you are making is anything like the claw. The claw works because it cannot be pulled straight out in any direction without pulling earth as the 3 stakes are inward at an angle...
When I got out for more than 1 night I use a bishop bag I made that holds my hammock, suspension, straps (on the outside in mesh to dry if needed), underquilt and pillow. All I need to add is my Top...
You'll get a little better wind protection dropping that high tie out down a bit, but looks like it will work to me.
Oh, and tie out that other side might help too :)
I attach mine with a small biner onto the fixed eye of the whoopie sling. Then the 2 sides run over the ridge or hammock and hang over. Those have shock cord run through them with a cord lock. Cord...
I use them with my full length and they hold the underquilt perfectly with or without a ridgeline too. They are very easy to adjust even when in the hammock, just reach up and pull or loosen each...
I'm in, thanks for the opportunity.
You can see the photos here.. http://www.flickr.com/photos/72200257@N05/6520679699/
Personally I would trust what the mainstream climbing equipment uses, 6 bar tacks. They are made to take a hard fall and not fail, much more forces than what we put them through hanging.
The bar...
He's online currently, I sent him a message to check out this thread...
If you look at the other photos in the linked gallery you can see how they are attached. Clamped in both directions, does not look like there are any bolts or other hardware into the trees.
In the video with the stuff sack it showed 9oz.
3/8" is pretty thin stuff, really not much better than just wrapping some cordage around the tree.
As far as sewing them, bartacks seem to be the norm. I've built 4 sets and always used 5 or 6 bar...
I'm in!
Thanks for the chance...
Thats all I use...
Softshackle through the channel on the hammock, whoopie sling connected to that. My ridgeline is also connected to the end loop of the whoopie via a soft shackle. I'm a big guy...
Sending PM about Tarp...
I'm guessing you are wondering where the dog collar post went?
Its in the donating members off-topic forum... along with all the nude hammock swimsuit model photos and all.... :)
I'm in!
Thanks for the chance!
It is as easy as you imagine it... like Dutch said, just roll what you're not sewing yet, and sew in each one as you go just unroll the next baffle and sew it down.
If you have a nice down sleeping bag you might want to try and sling it under the hammock like I did in this thread (http://www.hammockforums.net/forum/showthread.php?t=38978) ... works great, stays...
I have probably 1000+ of those ties in use around the house, garage, RC Cars/Planes/Gliders, and everything else in the house and beyond. They are hook one side, loop the other and are great for DIY...
Looks like a great fishing spot too(when not frozen over)...
Thanks for the reassurance...
Can't wait for some colder temps, I gotta get see how cold this UQ will take me...
An observation that I didn't notice the last time I had this tarp in rain. I noticed the inside of the tarp was "damp"... it never beaded up or ran down the inside of the tarp, but I did notice it...
Well it never got as cold as I hoped it would. It only got down to 43f early this morning, rain stopped as well. Still out here waking up and enjoying the crisp air.
The gear all worked great, I...
yeah... just some large diameter pvc. Its locked in by the S hook from the stand. I use it to string up the tarp, etc...
Still in the hammock, but nature called so i had to run in real quick. Its...
I'm all snug in the hammock, wife gave me a n hour before I come sliding back into the warm bed... no faith!
