Interesting! I’ve picked up on the 11’ SG being a bit longer than a typical 11’ based on people having trouble getting it to fit on stands like the YOBO Cricket.
I actually bought a 12’ SG when...
I’d buy one. I think i could nap in one of these for days :P
I’ve ordered 4 (wait… 5! Haha) over the years  (ended up giving one to my brother, and I probably need to sell one…)
How long are they? All mine are 12’ and wide fabrics. Super comfortable....
48” is wide huh? I guess it’s an extra 4”… I did have UGQ make me one that was probably 52” a couple years ago (at which point Hammock Gear would no longer make custom wider quilts… I do have a 54”...
For sure. My interest in the Hive was primarily that it’s both freestanding and large enough to accommodate 12’+ hammocks and some bridge hammocks. Curious to see if the Big Guy bridge works on the...
Disclaimer— I’m far from prolific in my hammock camping. But I own a Superfly (11’) and a 12’ SLD Winter tarp and 9 times out of 10 I just use the Kuhli. If you really want winter / wind coverage...
Do superior gear items have tags? I have a few different items from them (including a multi-quilt) and I’ll have to check the quilt (I don’t recall it even having a Superior Gear logo on it...
I imagine with trees 20ft apart it could be pretty difficult to get your tree straps high enough to get your hammock as high off the ground as you want. I’m sure other more seasoned and expert...
Can’t hurt to ask. (Not sure if I’m the one you’re referring to— I did request a 12’ hammock not too long after they de-listed the 12’ option and they obliged.)
They do sell a quilt suspension accessory to allow their quilt to be attached to other, non-Superior Gear hammocks.
I’m curious as well about the zip on UQ for Chameleon. Looks like there is some potential for air since you still have to cinch the ends up (allows for venting I guess). Seems to be a universal issue...
Is your Chameleon standard width or the wide version?
Superior Gear doesn't offer 12' as an option currently. You could ask if they'll do one-- they did for a brief period back in 2021. All the accessories, however, were universal regardless of hammock...
Yeah, glad I saw this thread. Unlikely I’d have ever sprung for one at full price down the road. Been a while since I had to wait in anticipation of some new hammock gear :D
Never gave the Cricket...
I want to see the suspension on that beast
Judging by what’s being shared on their FB account it looks like Cedar Ridge is no more :(
Tensa 4 is your friend :D I’ve hammock camped lots of places in southern Utah. Arches, Zion, Snow Canyon, Capitol Reef… can’t hurt to have a tent. But a Tensa will keep you in the air in a lot of...
Very nice! I used to live just down the hill from the mouth of the canyon where that trailhead is :) I miss that area!
I don’t get the impression that the UQ being attached compromises the hammock. It actually isn’t physically attached on the head / foot end; just on the sides. As Jared described to me:
So...
Both options are possible. I think Jared still philosophically leans towards modular systems (being able to swap out the UQ layer for different temperature ratings, basically, so that you don’t...
Agreed! The integrated insulation makes hammock camping so much more user-friendly. I think part of it is just reaching a broader audience who may not need or want the modularity of traditional...
Superior offered a 12’ for a few months; I asked why the option is no longer available and primarily it seems to be a function of just simplifying the offering / reducing the number of options people...
A couple thoughts:
1) Common wisdom is to try a relatively cheap gathered-end hammock to see how comfortable it is; I’d probably do that before jumping straight to a bridge.
2) Underquilts for...
Came by to see if there was any talk of Jared’s insulated hammocks and lo and behold, this thread :P
I noticed the insulated hammock listed on the Simply Light Designs site last week and pinged...
Man. That yellow Draumr looks fantastic. I don’t need another Draumr, do I?
Nice! Is it designed for a specific pad width? Sometimes I wish there was a 90* hammock made for a 30” wide pad.
Also I like that the pad isn’t running through a sleeve; how well does it stay in...
yep, this is rad. Looking forward to the next installment!
Zen Bivy offering looks nice— their sizing guide indicates that they fit up to 3” thick mattresses; probably decent for backpacking to keep weight down. I know because it’s a modular system and a...
The only problem I have with getting my Superior Hammock is that I now have a lot of other nice hammocks that I don’t see getting a lot of use in the future
I got mine in the last month or...
Asking $195 shipped SOLD.
From the days when HG still had the option of custom size quilts, I had them make me a 20* Long incubator an extra 10 inches wide (so ~54” wide).
Ordered this summer...
Heck, even on my back my arms don’t stay on the pad / want to lay on the wings (Big and tall guy here). The advice I was given for this was to use a sleeping bag instead of a standard top quilt. (I...
What options / adjustments did you make to accommodate your height?
Yeah I’m hopeful the 12’ will do the trick for me too (6’4”— previously found 58” wide 11’ hammocks just a tad too narrow for me.)
Mine shipped this week— looking forward to trying it!
Looks like I bought my 2 “v2” stands in September 2018 and March 2019– so these should compatible with an (eventual) retrofit, eh? (The larger connector holes were a later production than mine, no?)....
Yeah, generally I think temperature ratings are primarily a function of how much loft the quilt has.
The Superior will require more down than most any underquilt for the same loft / temperature...
Billy on— Have you looked at the Superior Cocoon? Not sure how recent your Superior Hammock is but if you have the zipper system, the cocoon is part way there. (Only zips half way up the hammock,...
Wookiedrool— I am curious what a bigger version would do. I sleep in 12’ hammocks and they seem to be basically the perfect length for my tensa such that I do not require the ridge line on the tensa....
I like where your head’s at ;) I should take my cotton hammock to the beach next time....
I’ll second this.

If not— well, get something that is a single...
I've only used it once or twice, and outside that is has lived in a cotton storage bag for the last couple years (smoke & pet free home)-- it very much needs a home where it will get some use!
...
Thanks for the tip! Makes sense, I will definitely give it a shot.
Interestingly, I've never had to fiddle to avoid cold pockets underneath me-- seems I might have been lucky that way. It's just...
I'm 6'4"-- I haven't been able to keep a standard width quilt from sliding off under my feet in general (all my hammocks are wide), even with the pack hooks that I think mcimes is describing on the...
Generally I think the feedback thus far in the thread is probably more valuable than mine-- sounds like others have done a lot more experimenting / dialing things in, and likely get out way more than...
It’s a Loco Libre 0* Carolina Reaper, 83” long; 900FP downtek goose down, yellow argon 90 exterior / brilliant blue argon 90 interior / orange stitching. Only used it once or twice since I got it a...
Still looking? I have a (long) 0* I've been meaning to offload.
I hadn’t considered the sleeping bag route in the Draumr. What sleeping bag are you using? I feel like I’ve been a bit spoiled by cottage vendor quilts, not sure where I’d start to look again at...
Thanks for the idea! I’ve been interested in adding a wool blanket to my gear for a couple years now... I think it’s time to do it ;)
Anyone ever tried rigging one perpendicular? Haha. This might sound wacky, but laying on my back, my arms have a tendency to want to lay at my sides, and being a larger fellow, that means they’re not...
My first quilts were zippered foot boxes. I wanted the versatility of being able to open up the foot box and use it like a blanket... well, I never did. On the other hand, the shock cord always...
Stated r value is 5... but yeah, looks like the weight in oz. is flipped, being as it would make the xl pad lighter than its smaller sibling :D
