You can get (if the PIF doesn't prove fruitful) 180' of lash it for $30 or 25' of it for $25. Certainly cheaper than a replacement retainer when those days come along.

If it will then you can use a small continuous loop between your hammock and the line to protect both of them. If you have any doubts then it's certainly better to be safe than sorry.

I don't recall seeing alpaca material at walmart but I'd bet it will serve you well in the cooler temperatures up north.

I've used 550 in the past (before I knew of amsteel) without any issues but it was tight and only in 12-15' runs.
