Just for fun, try a full size pillow. Thin but firm works best for me. I just picked up a Sea to Summit Aeros Premium Delux (23.5x16x5.5) and it does a pretty good job alleviating shoulder squeeze....

Searching a soggy river bank for a tent site in the twilight sucks.
Nothing half a can of deep woods Off every hour or two couldn't handle.
Thanks for the heads up Jerry. Bit of a drive for me at present, but that trip we did couple seasons ago is one of the...
Hopefully, I'll get a chance to tell you the whole story....
Dude, My ortho wanted to cut my foot off and re-attach it to fix my ankle. I opted to not do that. Maybe I'll regret it when I'm 80, but so far I'm not.
Morale of the story... You should come this...

What's the material? My winter tarp is a 70d PU coated fabric and it sticks to itself on the coated side when folded and stored. Looks a lot like your photo when I pull it back out.
I've done -8* in my Inc. 10 wearing a sweaty base layer that I had on all day and a high hung tarp with gaps in the doors on the windward side of a hill. (Intentionally poor conditions for cold...

14oz of 850 in 2.5-2.75" baffles gets me down to 0* comfortably. I wouldn't be surprised if you could hit -10* is that and still need to vent a little.
Love it!

My Incubator came with a lighter biner at the head end as well. I use the phrase "light headed" to help remind myself to set it the correct way.
I do a bit of both. Set my foot end a little higher when putting straps up, then adjust the whoopies to get my hang angle and foot/head height right. This way the hammock ends up close to centered...
Stupid question but, what did you have on top for insulation?
Hanging somewhere you can bail at a temp lower than the quilt rating can help highlight any drafty spots that need adjusting. Feedback...
Yeah, Gingercake is the way I've come in before. Thanks guys.
When I've been out that way I came in from the north. Is that way still open?
21.
Just found out I don't have to be out town for work that week  so I'm gonna try and make this and meet some of the NC folks.
I did a similar thing with my winter tarp. Still went past 90* on the door cuts on both sides but one side is noticeably longer than the other. I did it to maximize use of the fabric I had as well....
You might consider adding some battens to keep that roach from flapping in the breeze.
Darts on the other hand...
Congrats! It is the perfect size and shape isn't it?:D
Sweet!

Nice! Wonder if you could prussik a mini biner at each peak, then run a loop of zing-it from the zipper, through the biners, back to the zipper. Then you could run it like a clothes line.
Nothing blows up like pine.
I darted the inner skin of my TQ so it would lay snug to my shoulders and neck without a cord.
Not to mention, silnylon, other coated fabrics, and some of the materials webbing etc. are made out of glow like the frickn' Beacon of Gondor when observed through any of the later gen night vision...
Should have plenty of quilt at that size. I did a quilt at 74x50 and at 5'11" 210lbs, it just makes it around me on flat ground and just makes it in length to seal out drafts around my neck. In the...
Don't forget to take the quilts out.
I use those pop-up mesh laundry hampers. Can find them for $5 a piece and seem to let them loft more than a bag.
Looks like Sea to Summit is coming out with a new pillow:

What is the wind supposed to be like?
I have a 70d tarp with doors you are welcome to borrow if you can swing by the Asheville area on your way. It's heavy and you'll need to provide your own...

Call Marty at Wilderness Logics. His turn around times are incredible. Great tarps too!
Welcome from Flat Creek!
Did a hike from Spence Ridge up Table Rock today. What a spectacular area.
It'll work, but not as well. Get a piece of paper and cut it to the size/shape you want at 1/2"=1'. Instead of thinking of it as cutting back the ridge line, think of it as extending the sides to get...
Pack frame and hiking poles that work together as hammock stand.
I side sleep with no problem in a Hennessey Expedition with a full sized pillow. What I find even more comfortable than lying on my back or side is half way between the two, kind of a 45* sort of...
A cat cut should reduce the need for a pole mod since the sides will pitch tighter and not sag inward. Hang the tarp under a continuous ridge line or from the pull outs and the curve is pretty...
You should ask for a new deck.
Everyone good with that?
It's still a good ways up but well worth the drive in my opinion.
From what I've been able to gather, the west branch is flat water. The rapids are elsewhere. I'm good with doing the Saco again regardless. Last year's trip was awesome. Or something in or closer to...
That Penobscot area looks wild!
Gastar, Thanks for the heads-up on this thread!
I think the passage of time has clouded your memory Dennis. I was paddling in circles 'cause I was drunk. The canoe was overloaded mostly with...

A full size pillow makes all the difference for me.
The higher hills in North Carolina regularly see temps that are as cold as what we get in the hills in Western Mass. It's not uncommon for them to be skiing before us too.
I've been to -8* with my Incubator 10* since my last post.
When I put my Tadpole up it never rains so I've been just fine without sealing it.
Thanks Gil. I'm gonna try and make it to NEHHA, but work schedule has just gotten real wonky with the winter sticking around. It kinda sucks because I'm just sitting here twiddling my thumbs waiting...
Great email. Hope you get a positive reply.
As far as top of the hill vs bottom of the hill, it doesn't make much difference, and could actually be higher risk at the bottom depending on the grade of the hill, if you are on the side the storm...
Looks wonderful. Thanks. Gonna be down there in a month or so....maybe permanently. Looks like you guys get some fall color down there too. Good to know. :)
