How close to columbus?

Dream hammock has something similar under choosing your hammock
I think the sag is less of an issue post pitch, but cat cuts always make a tight pitch easier. I used 2 " cat cuts and would do it again for the ease of pitching. Definitely not necessary IMO.
I fiddle with the RL length a lot to get rid of things like this with any fabric. Maybe mess around with different whippings, but I have never gone down that route. I'm sure others will weigh in...
Can you cheat by dressing super warm to compensate?
Yeah the blue foam pad will be tough to beat cost wise. What temps are you looking at?
Thanks, I will likely be lazy since down is a pain to move.
It is not hollow core, it's more like paracord
How long can the HyperDri Down stay in the 3oz. plastic bags it's delivered in? I got enough for a couple of quilts, and do not plan to start the second one for a couple months.
I thought I saw some fabric being discussed that was also not on the main site. I do think it is a bit odd.
I recently made an asm tarp out of 4 yards of fabric cut in half with a seam down the long edge. I was disappointed by the pucker down the RL created by stretching the fabric on the diagonal. It...
It looks like it has a lot of feathers in it, so if I had to guess the fill power is pretty low. I would not think more than $4, just my opinion
I have done this with a 59" fabric, it was too narrow IMO.
At 6'1" 160 lbs I have used HyperD 1.0 and 1.6 as well as some other fabrics. I like an 11.5" hammock and have no comfort issues with the 1.0. I think a little stretch can be comfortable depending...
My favorite place to go in a days drive by far. If you hike big miles you can see most of it on 2 nights, but there are too many cool places to stretch it out and take a lazy day or two.
If material lengths work out it might save you a bit on cost to do calendared outer shell and an uncalendared inner shell
I use tin snips
Seems like it would be tough with the fabric all bunched up. It would almost be "pleated" which does not sound good for load bearing
Haha, I weigh 165 and use 2 bar tacs. You will probably always lose some strength, but you must be at the minimum loss there
She's a natural.
Does the small not jam up in the eye of the needle?
Is it possible you were hanging off of the toggle itself instead of the knot? I broke a stick toggle that way before I learned the difference.
Is there a point in going wider than you are tall? Once you pass diagonal to full perpendicular what more would you want?
Is that posts in total or in this thread alone?
Nice work. Is the nylon from the bags at all? Finished product looks new to me. Way to go
I'm 165 with no issues. I would just avoid hanging under 30 degrees
Which do I prefer or what actually happens?... I always have every intention of getting out quickly, but 1 or 2 hours always slips away.
Your underquilt will lay on the diagonal with you to a degree which helps offset that. I cannot see a reason to go much over 45. Mine is 42. I'm a skinny guy and it is plenty. At a certain point...
I think how much you move when you sleep is as big a factor as size. I'm a skinny guy (not quite on your level), and a 50" works for me on the ground because I do not move at all during the night.
Yep, from Northeastern Ohio originally. I worked in Pittsburgh the last few years and just moved back at the beginning of the year. I have never had one that could open up, so I cannot speak to...
I like to look up average lows for the months I camp in, then knock off 10 degrees as a buffer. If the quilt covers me for the months I need, I'm good....
For sure the safe way to go and no doubt a better value. The insulated footbox would be nice too which I think you only get with the 20. Really just depends on how much you care about weight and...
Sorry for the confusion, it sounded like the OP is only expecting 40s when "cot" camping. I was not suggesting taking extra clothes backpacking. For the summer month backpacking I would expect it...
When you are doing the cot camping is it a big deal to take a liner and some warmer clothes? Maybe I am interpreting this the wrong way, but I assume if there is a cot there is a car as well?
40 with 2oz overstuff. Even if you sleep cold I think this would still be plenty for summer. This is highly subjective, but that's my best guess.
My wife and I hike together, so our frustration tends to come out of finding 2 spots to hang not too far apart. We go to ground in the winter though, and this is a good reminder that even good...
I hang TQs on big hangers in a closet. I keep my UQs in a couple of laundry baskets, the suspension was hard to keep wrangled when hanging. Just my experience. I prefer the idea of hanging as...
Thanks Hobo, and thanks for kicking this off. Get well soon
Nice, looking forward to meeting you guys. Let me know if you need me to get anything for the group.
I realize I am late to the party, but do you guys have room for one more? I can probably be there later this evening, but might just come 1st thing in the morning. This would be my first group...
Love that plaid
Nice work, looks like you have plenty of space in there too.
The ridgline length will be different with you out of the hammock. I believe it would be longer if I am thinking about this the right way. Maybe you somehow measured while in the hammock. Have you...
Cutting rectangles should not be necessary. I would just create a rolled hem with at least an inch of extra space that will be your channel and then triple stitch as Funny Money said. If this is a...
You are probably aware of this, but just in case. There still the 5% off code in this thread: https://www.hammockforums.net/forum/showthread.php/85539-HF-member-discount-code-Ripstopbytheroll-com
It just depends on the fill power. The best goose down is better than the best duck down. If fill power is not listed it is usually because the down quality is poor. Dutch and Ripstopbytheroll...
I have only had mine 6 months, so I cannot speak to breaking down. The shifting has not been an issue. I have some other quilts that look a bit more filled out, but since shifting is not an problem...
Interesting, these are some large hammocks, but it makes sense at 6'4". Are you leaving the whipping at the shorter points intact when hanging from the longer whipping points? Just making sure I...
I have sewn some of my most beautiful hems and bar tacks only to find I caught an unintended bunch of tarp fabric...it's the worst. Great tarp, you will feel an extra sense of accomplishment in the...
I just moved from Pittsburgh, so most of my hiking has been around PA including several trips to the Dolly Sods. I think if you already have the 40 TQ, it probably makes sense to match to that for...
