I'm a little late to the party but would like to offer my congratulations. I have a Clark and was saddened to hear they were thought to be going out of business. It made me very happy to hear that...
Thanks for the heads up. Perfect!
So I'd like to cut a custom closed cell pad for my ridgeruuner hammock. It's about 35/36" at it's widest point and is sort of crescent moon shaped along it's length. I'd like to buy a 36" wide piece...
I agree 100%. Get the widest one that will fit. I've tried pads and quilts with mine and prefer the pad. It's totally non fiddle, and reliably warm. You also don't have to woprry about the down...
Welcome to the madness Ken! I'm a long time hammock camper who just got back into motorcycling after a 40 year hiatus. I bought a dual sport/adventure type bike for the sole purpose of hammock...
When the tree broke during my AT hike. It landed about a foot from my head!
Glad I wasn't drinking coffee when I read #2! :)
The Z Lite is the one that is accordion like. I cut it across it's 25" width right at the middle fold. Once cut it's the perfect width of the Ridgerunner extending a few inches up past the hem of the...
I have used the Neo Air Xlite but have mostly switched to the Thermarest Ridgerest at 25" X 77". I like it because it is bombproof and will never deflate. I also use the Thermarest Z lite cut in half...
During my thru attempt in 2012 I used a Dream Hammock's Hammock with a built in weather shield. It was one of the best decisions I made as the weather shield saved my bacon on more than one occasion....
Exactly!
Chipmunks sound like grizzlies when you first start camping alone in the woods. The more you do it the less that's the case. Until you get over your fears you probably won't feel comfortable wearing...
Because I'm "that guy" who forgot to close the lid on my Thule Rocket Box. Somewhere along the highway my Ridgerunner and the tarp that was binered to it decided to take a trip of their own. I did...
So...in Dollar General stores (and possibly elsewhere) they sell a product called Hot Shot Flea, Tick and Lice killer in a spray can. They advertise it for use on carpets furniture and dog bedding....
That's a great feeling. I know it well. :)
I carry mine in a pole bag. on the outside of my pack. I stuff it in one of the water bottle holders and under the side straps. I've never had a problem with it falling out. If you were concerned...
I too am claustrophobic. I use a Ridgerunner which helps some. I have found that if I leave the zipper open about four inches in exactly the same spot am ok. If i wake up in a panic, I calm down as...
I use my sleeping bag partially unzipped as a TQ. I have found that occasionally in the middle of the night probably due to tossing and turning the bag distorts resulting in heat loss and/or drafts....
When I did my AT hike in 2012 I used a gathered end hammock with a full length UQ and a 20 degree bag. I now have a Ridgerunner and if I were to do it again I would take the RR with a pad. Pads work...
I would attend.
Frankly I would reconsider even taking a hammock on a world wide trip. I think you will encounter too many places where hanging a hammock would not be feasible. For instance, a couple of years ago I...
I use a 25" pad but would like to try a 30"er. I like the suggestion of cutting it into a slight hour glass shape if needed.
Small world. I live in Elmira but I'm really a Jersey Boy. (Born in Atlantic City....raised in Cape May area) :)
Back in the 70s my girlfriend and I traveled the country while living in a Dodge van for over a year on very little money. I'd have to say it was one of the best years of my life. Go for it and see...
So is anyone keeping track of the actual death toll among those waiting for their Ridgerunners and or UQ? :)
I assume it comes apart easily once weighted for a night?
Nice trip report! My wife and I did the OLP a couple of years ago and had a great time. My friends and I also kayak Rock Run when it's up starting at Yellow Dog road. It's an exciting run to say the...
I bought the Boondox Drifter and had to send it back. It does not work with an 11' hammock and just barely with a 10 footer. I REALLY wanted to like it but it fell a little short both literally and...
The Claytor Jungle Hammock was my first real camping hammock. I like to think of it as the Ford/Chevy of hammocks. It'll get the job done but there are plenty of others out there that are better. I'd...
I just received an order in two days. That dude doesn't mess around. :) Getting ready to order some stuff for a friend.
Taking my Hammeck stand on it's first road trip tomorrow heading to Paddlefest in Old Forge NY. Anyone going?
First thing I noticed was the two lines needed to suspend the netting. That alone would be a deal breaker for me. There are lots better choices out there imo.
Having served with and been tended to a couple of times by Navy Corpsmen while in the Marines in Viet Nam you have my respect. Welcome to the forum.

This is a great pack. If you're on the fence....don't be. :)

So does that mean it will last even longer if we line dry? I'd love to see some evidence to that effect.
I have considered doing exactly that although messing around with the coal and maintaining a proper fire is part of what attracts me to it. My actual skills were never that great...it was the process...
My ancestors are from County Down. I've seen pictures and would love to visit some day. It's on my bucket list. :)
I'm so sorry I missed this hang. I tried to make it from NY but unfortunately the timing was off by about a week. I'm heading to CA tomorrow. I'm really going to try to make it next year. Seems like...
Welcome from the US of A! My wife and I visited Germany a while back and were very impressed. You live in a beautiful country. We plan on returning.
Miguel
Elmira here! Welcome.
That's nice. I used to do blacksmithing as a hobby. Not so much anymore since I moved into town. I really miss it and
the song of the anvil. :)
I like!
I think it's totally worth it especially in the shoulder seasons of fall and spring. It raises the inside temp considerably and totally blocks the wind which can be huge. I've never had condensation...
I posted this in another thread.
So my Hammeck Hanger Stand arrived and I am very pleased with it. I ordered it with the extendor which will accomodate bridge style hammocks. First I'd like to say...

Actually it's pretty easy to get from the USA East Coast to Ramstein via military Space A. If I had known about it earlier I would have planned for it. Unfortunately I already have commitments that I...
Don't you just love it when you get that email from UPS or Fedex!
In this case it's a new Hammock Stand from Hammeck. :boggle: It was only about a nine day turn around btw which is way quicker...
I was thinking the same thing. I'm retired from the Marines and would love to hang in Bavaria. :)
I refuse to sleep in my hammock wearing any article of clothing that has a rear zippered pocket. Don't ask me how I know this is a bad practice. :) I also empty my pockets of anything that could...
