This is probably the reason you feel the cold in Az. In Denver we got over a foot in less than 24hrs178378
I am 5'3" and have a ghost pepper that is 65" long with 90 argon outer and 67 inner. the taper is 10" which is equivalent to a standard mummy bag. I think the dimensions are perfect for people our...
I have four wookie underquilts and they are all 20d, three are ripstop nylon and one is polyester. If I close my eyes and feel the poly and the nylon, I wouldn't know the difference. Looking at them...
For a rain break I just double tie the loop end. It also prevents the becket from inadvertently slipping.
Forget all the hardware! Use 15' dyneema straps and a becket hitch, that's all you need!!! everything else is gimmickey and adds to the "fiddle factor". With 15' straps you can setup anywhere along...
I agree that the sleeping pad conflicts with the Uq and could cause drafts. I think your idea of using the sol blanket is good because it will trap the warm air that your body makes, however, you...
I had to sleep outside. 177870177871177872

I would be very Interested in getting together with other Co. hammockers for a winter outing. Crater lakes trail near Moffat tunnel/ Rollinsville is a good place to find fresh snow. Anything along...
plenty of trees, but, it does require a permit to camp.
Shug, How do you do it? I Just got back from what I hoped to be a solo overnight trip to crater lakes trail Colorado. I started on the trail about 1:30 and arrived via snowshoe about 4:oo. It was at...
I had my surperfly in a torrential downpour for three days and it only leaked at the lie outs. I did use the silicon provided, I guess I didn't use enough. This post has reminded me I should apply...
My backyard is the test zone for the real thing. My neighbor thinks I'm crazy, alway threatens to throw snowballs at me or spray me with the hose. When I see the forecast dip into the low teens I'm...
The 10' wooki only fits the blackbird. The XLC is an 11' hammock
I agree with those who think your hammock is set up incorrectly. Your feet are well past the under quilt and it looks as though your ridge line has a lot of sag to it. If the BB is set up properly...
ridge rest CCF walmart
that looks like a great idea! Leave it to Dutch to come up with something innovative. I have been looking for a way to keep my dog warmer on those breezy nights, something light and packable. I hope...
I am 5'5" and have the regular blackbird and the xlc. If the 10' blackbird had all the features of the xlc I would be completely happy with the length. 10' is just right for us short people.
As others have said you will get more than one uq. I would start with an uq at least 10* warmer than the temperature you expect to camp in during the winter. It is safer to be warm!!!
it looks to much like something you would find on a walmart hammock. I would prefer a small dutchware logo like the tag on the chameleon itself.
fabric may also be a consideration. Hexon or hyperD fabrics for example are are very comfortable to many people. customization can also be a factor of comfort in a hammock.
If you go with a Dutchware Chameleon you will have more color options, and it also comes in the Hexon 1.6 fabric + there are so many add ons to the chameleon you can really customize it. Just a...
"Gore lake" in eagles nest wilderness. It is about 11 miles out and back with a lake. Look on Alltrails for more info.
dogs are the best hiking companions! 168831168832
I wish all the hammocks I owned had warbonnet zippers, they are so smooth.
I thought I was the only one who made changes and was a nuisance! George is awesome!
I am not a fan of solo camping, but, like others have mentioned and I have just learned this about myself, if I can hike from sun up till just before dark I really enjoy solo trekking. The camping is...
Zpacks pack liner. 7" deep 12.5" wide 31" tall. dyneema fabric. 1.8oz
You have the right approach George, keep up the quality work! I have never minded the wait.
I would go with the full length. Two weeks ago I went camping with my wife and son, I loaned them my full length quilts. The forecast said the lows would be about 50*. No problem I thought, I will...
spiguyver videos are not therapy.
Labor day weekend will be crowded and there are limited campsites. If they are full you will have to hike to the next camp area and hope to find an open site. Camping is first come first serve. Bear...
I tend to invest in hammocks, underquilts and tarps. Everything else you can find at walmart or costco or army surplus stores. If you purchase good underquilts in the 0* or 20* range you can use an...
look up spiguyver backpacking. He has a youtube video to address your question. I have all three hammocks and you can't go wrong with any of them.
I have been waiting for OP to chime in for some specific dates.
Loco Libre 3/4 30* summer in the mtn's of colorado can get cold.
Goose Creek is one of my favorite Places. The Lost creek wilderness Is very close to Cripple creek, and Pikes peak. It would not be difficult to do a couple days of backpacking In the Lost creek...
you might try, [email protected] he always seems to reply to my dumb questions from this email address.
Dutchware spider web 2.0 tree straps and 1/2" mule tape 10' long with "becket Hitch" very light!
It looks like you are well equipped for this trek. As far as the altitude I think you will be fine especially after a week in the Springs. there are only a few 10,000+- high points that you may feel...
I was looking through some old pictures and found this. Just a teaser of some of the views from Lost creek wilderness, ( Pikes peak in the distance). This picture was taken just above Goose creek...
That is sweet! I just ordered a 0* reaper. I'm on week 1 of a 12 week wait so I'm looking at June. Maybe it will still be cold at 12,000ft.
warbonnet recently came out with the xlc to be used universally so consumers have the option of lay direction. The old xlc was made head left /feet right you would have to special order a head...
I am 5'5" and have bothe the xlc and reg. BB. The xlc is very comfortable and Like mentioned above has more options. I would go for the xlc.
This is the route I would suggest.

I grew up in south east Alaska and it was very common to see the aurora borealis in the winter. I have also seen them in MT. but they didn't dance in the sky with the energy you would see in Alaska.
