Ordered a half zip in hexon 1.6 to try.
I think the comfort difference comes from the 40D stretching/giving a bit more? We will find out. Worst case, she goes back to the night owl, and I get...

Ordered a half zip in hexon 1.6 to try.

Hexon 1.6 as a single layer?
We were just aiming for lowest cost/fastest leadtime I suppose. Well, that, and just in case the "style" of the XLC is part of what she finds a bit uncomfortable too, although I think its probably...
I have some wilderness logics double layer night owl hammocks- my wife finds these more comfortable than her current Warbonnet XLC.
The XLC is a single layer, I believe 40D?
We want to...
The ones with the least amount of visitors.
I’m 6’3”- The partial UQs like warbonnet yeti’s are good for me. Less material, weight, cost.
Necro!
But, while we're here..
You do not always get your way in life. If this is something that hasn't been taught yet, then kudo's to your school for taking the initiative. Better late...
Yea, it seems buggy.
I was able to view the section for weeks after my sub ran out. Then, I could view on phone but not PC. Now I re-subbed (out of fear of missing one of the 4 posts/year lol)...
I guess you know you've made it when people put your name and logo on their camping gear?
Thats weird lol.
He's in Indiana, where will he get the test bear though?
Uh- since when?
Since buying a few 10D quilts, it’s all I will buy now, color choice is second.
10D is roughly 0.65 oz per sq/yard
20D is roughly 1.10 oz per sq/yard
Essentially there is almost the same fabric in one 20D quilt to make 2 10D quilts.
The name caught my attention!
We hiked the actual swift camp creek trail a few years back, it didnt work out well for us. We started at the Rock bridge area trailhead of SCC trail, and found...
Great place, thanks for posting!
Sounds like a fun trip.
We've enjoyed quite a few hikes on the two lakes loop. Seeing the American discovery trail is neat as well.
We always hang side by side as well.
We gave up on the idea of store bought early on and made a custom tarp to fit our needs. I would like to replace it someday, it’s getting some age on it-...
Also worth pointing out for those looking to re-create the video- A ball is not 3/4npt thread. You can see hers looks to be loose towards the end of the video.
Will it work, probably. could the...
We are doing the entire timberline loop- counter-clockwise,
We've been looking at forecast's and current temps, but it seems all over the place. Sounds like we should plan on night temps 25-40 at...
Any thoughts on typical weather?
The more we read and try to research, it seems all over the place. Just trying to get an idea of what (low) temps we are looking at on average.
Thanks!
I dont think thats right.
My 40deg /950fp 10D weighs 7.6oz in a 1gallon ziplock- with cordage, everything. Its listed as 7.12 item weight, so adding a ziplock and cordage thats real close. If...
Nice. I have a regular Shenandoah, I think I saw they make a UL version now?
Actually all the top quilts I use are JRB ( 0, 20 and 40).
I second the Yeti. I have a custom 40deg, 950fp/10D fabric. Its crazy small.
OP hasn't been heard from in several years now. Makes you wonder...
COLD.
As far as a Scandi wookie we own, I eventually found its meant to be a -20 rating. Its a crazy block of down.
Its been 7 years, I wonder how his stand is holding up? lol
Dolly sods is an awesome place for sure!
Thanks for all the info,
Sounds like its a safe enough bet to be able to buy canister fuel. I like the idea of purchasing ahead of time and picking up.
Seems like I'll be using a canister...
We are flying to Portland OR this fall to hike the timberline trail. We are renting a car and staying the first night in a hotel, What are our best options for getting the supplies we need that you...
Not as of a few weeks ago.
Humans that have become habituated to areas like the GSMNP are a danger to themselves, Us, and the Bears. And the places they get that way are in the big, popular parks, close to trail crossings,...
I finally got my 40deg yeti- 10D/950fp.
Man it’s so tiny! Easily half the bulk of my old JRB grey lock 3. Granted, it’s not rated as cold- but I’d bet it’s not far off. I’ll be trying it...
It'd be my guess, being a 16yr old girl, she most likely wasn't really following guidelines. Its not just food that can cause problems, perfumes, chapsticks (especially cherry!) is one of the...
Pick a direction of lay and stick with it? I don't really feel its much of a negative in that aspect.
The Wookies are great for being fiddle free, I'd think being new to hammocking it might be a...
A 0 deg should have taller baffles. An overstuffed 20 deg would probably look "as puffy" as a zero in my opinion, it would have more- or likely close to the same, down in a smaller baffle.
On top...
Well, yea, I was speaking of underquilts specifically, but I prefer the feel of thinner fabrics as well. Not that that's a concern with a wookie.
This was actually how I noticed the fabric...
Lots of great options for 2-3 day hikes-
On the far east side, Cataloochee valley is a good spot to start a loop of varying size. Boogerman loop is a must when doing a loop there in my opinion,...
One thing that definitely changed in 4 years, the trees got taller.
Luckily the spacing seems to have stayed relatively the same.
I'd get the thinnest possible.
On my last quilt order I bought 10D, Fern green I think. We've have 15 and 20D quilts, and I much prefer the thinner material.
Nice!
My wife has a 20deg wookie (and a scandi wookie), she wanted me to get a wookie too, but I stuck with the yeti to save even more space. The wookies are great- I don't have to spend a minute...
Ordered me a 40deg Yeti, 950 down, 10D fabric, weee!
7.12 OZ!
I didn't need it, I love my greylock 30, but I wanted to see how much space it might save in my pack.
My wife wanted to try her new Scandinavian wookie out this weekend, so Saturday evening I set our custom tarp up at the back of the property. Temps were forecast to hit about 12deg, 10-15mph winds. ...
I'd echo the "they help a little" part. They can be nice as a moral boost for troublesome cold hands/feet, a temp fix, but I don't think they really help that much for sleeping. Or should I say, a...
If you have been fine with a 0 deg bag and pad, I couldn't possibly see good 0 deg quilts letting you down any. The "comfort" ratings on atleast the quilt brands I've owned seem really generous. I...
My wife is a super cold sleeper, and I've been working on her gear/pack size for awhile trying to get it under control.
She started with a 0 degree quilt and a huge, +3oz 0deg incubator. It...
I put snaps on a Wookie and an XLC BB. I used 16’s, 2 snaps a few inches apart at shoulder and foot.
There is no real damage done, I put the snaps through the zipper material. I’d imagine if I...
A lot of it can be mental I think,
The coldest we’ve camped together to date was in the single digits.
So while really to me, it’s overkill, to her it gives that extra comfort factor, and if...
My wife is a cold sleeper. She wound up with a 0 degree incubator a few years ago, but she wants to use it for essentially all temps, so her pack was always stuffed full of down. Last year I got...
We started using 2 poles, but then switched to just one at the head end.
I had been using a head end pole from a ridge runner as it was a little longer than the pole I got from dutchware...
I’m 6’3”, I use JRB grey lock 3 and 4 “3/4” length UQ’s. I’ve had an incubator for awhile but it just seemed to be too big.
