I do too!! I share the same sentiments to about looking ridiculous!
Long but Awesome video!
I love hammocks because they are more comfortable than sleeping on the ground, the whole practice is DIY friendly, and generally everything is modular. I love only bringing what I need for that...
I'm pretty sure Shug has or had a video about this. It's been some years but I remember him wearing and recommending a frost bib when hanging in sub zero temps.

I know how much everyone loves trigonometry!
We need to establish that their are two different angles at work to think about.
1. The "suspension angle": the angle measured from your anchor to...
FOR REAL!! Only once before you say NEVER AGAIN!!
Costco is an amazing resource for cheap down! You can DIY some awesome gear with their materials!
Kormi- I don't have a particular spot in mind. We could hang somewhere on the mountain or at the...
You will definitely want an under quilt. Synthetic or down, either will suffice it just depends on the amount of weight you want to carry. I'm a cold sleeper so I always take extra layers. A tarp to...
Your right in not needing to replace the hammock. You could certainly upgrade what your using to gather the ends, hardware, and suspension. I would install Continuous Loops made of Amsteel to gather...
Drop the pillow. Use your puffy as a pillow. Take your tarp outta the drybag there is no need to keep it dry. That should free up enough space in your current 20L bag. I know you said that you don't...
I love Bikepacking! In my opinion an investment in quality quilts is unparalleled. Good quality down quilts pack down fairly small for the amount of warmth they provide. In my opinion the UQ is the...

I'm gonna try to get the time off work and hopefully take you up on that ride lol! I will gladly pull the pulk for you!

I'm supposed to get that same system coming my way with 3 days of snow on the forecast as well!

This was a lot to read but I couldn't stop. I felt like I was reading my hammock bio lol! Starting with a HH. Your evolution of suspensions. Descending rings, learning about amsteel, and how to weave...
This is exactly right! Nice weather, take my time, adjust everything just so, lol. Rain or snow, tarp goes up before I open my pack to get anything else.

Should we set up a northern cali hang then? I can do Shasta on a weekend.

I'm a: " There is no such thing as bad weather..... Just the wrong gear! " kinda hammocker/outdoorsman. I'm really looking forward to my first snowy packrafting trip this year!

RSBTR does not recommend either of these fabrics for hammocks. You want fabrics that breathe well for hammocks. Personally I wouldn't use either of these for a hammock.

Another idea that's a lot like this one is to stitch on a really strong velcro. I would use steam tape but like it was pointed out earlier the stitch will be low to the ground so it's not a must....
I think you built the first "real" doubles hammock lol. That thing is massive! You said you laid perpendicular!
Now you need to build a stuff sack for it. Then weigh it.

What material did you use again and what is she weighing?

Chester is 184 miles from me. Shasta is 90 meaning Shasta is 90 for you too?

Bahahaha me too man soaking wet

Is that extra whipping in this pic? You could use that to integrate your RL

This is how I have my whoopies setup as well. I then use a soft shackle to join the hugger onto itself.
Have you considered finishing the ends up with sewn channels? I really feel like that would open up a lot more possibilities for your suspension and ridgeline.

I've put about 400lbs into a hammock with 1.75mm Lash-it whoopies. 2.25mm should hold him. I'm not sure about the hammock but it'll definitely hold him lol.
I do believe that is the largest...
Can I ask what the motivation or end goal was to do this project?

I have so many answers! I also have all kinds of different suspension systems, cook kits, and water filtering. I would love to hang and talk hammocks!
I have so many spots around the...
REALLY nice work man! Way to persevere through the tedious nature of the project. Making your own gear is amazing! You really learn the intricacies of the build and think of how to improve it while...
My understanding is that hydrophobic treatment of down is just a gimmick. Treated down or “dry down” is a technology that was developed to decrease drying time for hotel comforters in commercial...
Still nobody? Is there no one in my area? [emoji31]

What a crazy story! Thanks for the link! Hanging rock is one of the best views I know of in southern oregon. Stinkin falcon ruining you taking that moment in lol! Glad you're ok!

I've done that loop also! I did it in December during a down pour so going counter clockwise didn't seem like such a good idea given that Mule cheek was raging and you have to cross both the west and...
I like this idea to upgrade my snow shovel! I've cut bricks out before when I had to camp out on Mt. Shasta. Scary night.
I think I have my list of must haves!
Thank you everyone for the...
Both of these look like the amsteel that we use in the state. It appears to be slightly larger in diameter. Our stateside amsteel is 7/64" or 2.7mm in diameter. The link you provided is for 3mm...
Shug!! Your the reason I even have mukluks! Love the Anorak shirt! This is on the list of things to get!!
Yes, I have a 0* UGQ TQ/UQ set with 2oz overstuff in each. My winter adventures take me everywhere from the valley floor to right at the treeline. There is no such thing as bad weather just the wrong...
Really? I have always been interested in the hammock stands but laughed at how much they weighed. 11lbs is pretty light. I'm assuming it will take a full size hammock because it was built by some...
I have an awesome pair of mukluks! One of the best buys for winter clothing!
Now we're talking!
After a long season of making money and not a lot of opportunity to spend it, I was able to squirrel away a nice chunk of change. I was looking at my setup this morning and wondering, "what else...
Just got back from the packrafting trip! It was awesome! Ended up having to do 3 stack bunk bed style with 1 HH tarp. Worked out nice! I wasn't the photographer on this trip so the pics will be on a...
This man knows his stuff! I have had experiences in every one of these scenarios.
Spreader bar style SUCKS!! Everytime they barely move that movement is transferred over to your hammock, it's...
Is anyone from the southern oregon area going to this? I would love to carpool!

MIKE DROP!!
I'm a motorcycle camper also and I would suggest a sea to summit eVent. My 0* 2oz overstuff TQ/UQ, hammock, and sleeping attire, i.e. socks, beanie, and smartwool onezie, all fit in a 20L. The eVent...
