Me and some mates are doing a roadtrip from England to France, Belgium, Switzerland and Italy.
We have hammocked every night so far except in Belgium where we slept on the floor of a derelict power...
Id say try hanging differently before giving up.
My most comfortable hang is with the ends almost horizontal, in line with the ridge line.
You can make it out here......
Well, youve got numerous other networks in central and loads of quarries outside of Paris.
But get back to the main GRS. There is always new stuff veing opened and new rooms built. Ive lost count of...
Yeah, the lamp thats hanging from my cord in the first pic is a carbide lamp.
I leave that on low flame overnight.
Leaving a candle burning too is another option.
I was back under Paris last weekend.
3 nights under this time. One night we were in our usual spot, which Ive posted about previously.
The others were new to me.
The first, I couldn't get my...
Well, what a transformation.
A good ridgeline has made my new hammock almost perfect.
As usual, I dont have the height to get much of a droop, but even as pictured, its made the world of...
Ive had one in the back of a van. Was pretty tight so i cant see it fitting in a car. That was an 8ft jobby too.
...
So, I found an 11ft hamock and tested it out this weekend.
It totally sorted the issue with my feet, but now, it seems to squeeze my shoulders together.
Admittedly, I couldnt play with the amount...
Cheers. Thanks guys.
If a hammock is taught, is it the measurement of the tight, top section, or the material drooping under. If that makes sense.
Please refrain from posting until you know the facts.
Not all of the networks (there is hundreds) were used as an ossuary.
Infact under 5% were.
Here is one of the numerous ones that are intact,...
Make sure you have an hour or so spare and google 'Paris Catacombs' :D
There is a public tour round a small section, but its very staged.
This section isnt open to the public ;)
I didnt even know such a thing existed.
And although they would be perfect, by the looks of them, they need a fair size crack.
With my pittons, you dont even need a crack if you have a big enough...
Its quite well travelled, some areas more than others.
But Ive never had any problems with my kit. Ive not met anyone with ill intentions yet.
So, after the interest of my underground hangs, I thought Id put a post up of my latest.
We spent 3 nights, inc NYE under Paris.
So to start, here is a few pics of the hammocks in situ.

Having read a few threads about numb heels, Ive seen the general solution is to raise the foot end 8-10".
Does this still work with a ridgeline?
Ive got 3 weekends in a row underground so am...
Howdy!
I was on the Island today for work! My rents also live there.
Small world!
You can buy monitors, but to be honest, most of the places I do are known and have had people in them previously.
Talk to me....
The key is to keep a candle, or carbide lamp going all night. It's really disorientating, and some people even get a bit freaked out, if you wake up in total darkness.
The 90degreee hammock looks interesting.
Looks like I have some reading to do.
Thanks all- keep the suggestions coming :)
Thanks for the welcome guys :)
There is a few ways you can anchor.
But the most common is to drive a sharpened steel rod into the wall (imagine a steel pencil, around 12mm thick), then side load...
Here's one of my faves! Not awesome like some of yours, but ace none the less
(excuse the pic from the back of the camera, but you get the idea)

This one?
It's a lot of money...
I mostly use the hammock underground in caves/catacombes etc. And have to use pittons. In this case, I often dont get a choice as the pillar/rock material dictates where the pittons can go.
As a...
Howdy all, noobie here from the UK.
Most of my hammocking is done underground when I go caving etc, but nothing beats swinging in the woods too!
I look forward to getting involved :)
