50 to 65°F is my ideal comfort range. In that ballpark, I don't have to worry too much about what specific quilts to bring since any of mine would be suitable for it.
Sorry to hear of the divorce, and I hope all remains civil as can be between you guys. Tree looks good to me. I've always wondered if someone had done something like this as the same idea had...
Such sad news to hear. My contact with Marty was often brief, but I could definitely tell how much of a great individual he was. Everything I've seen and read about him was nothing but praise and...
The version I'm using has an 11' ridgeline.

All components in my collection have completely different looking stuff sacks, so identifying "which is which" is easy for me.
I've used rubbing alcohol and a rag before. That seems to do the trick everytime.
Sounds like a typical setup I'd consider for mid summer in the Sierras. Definitely would not recommend that for winter in Michigan.
Lol, that'd work too. Someone added Bill Cosby to this when I posted it in one of the Facebook groups.

Here's one I put together last night.

Most of my outings have been with other people up until this past summer. I recently began backpacking and car camping solo since scheduling with the group was not working out. The initial thought...
Haha, that's awesome! While camping over Labor Day weekend, a couple guys stopped by my camp to ask for directions to the nearby lake. While I was giving them directions, one of them notices my...
Stakes and lines go into a vinyl Shure microphone bag, and that bag gets slipped into the part of my backpack that's designed for a hydration bladder. I put my CCF sit pad in there with it. Keeps...
I can't say I've felt much of a fear of being alone in the woods since I was a small child. Throughout my 20s, and even to this day in my mid 30s, most of my time spent in the woods has been long...
I've only gone on 3 solo overnighters so far, but any anxiety I had seemed to have vanished the very moment I stepped out of the vehicle and onto the trail by myself. It hadn't really occurred to me...
I took heed of the forum's advice quite some time ago, and I do like most people have mentioned here. Compactor bag as a pack liner, toss in all quilts and clothing, smash down, roll the top over,...
Maiden voyage with the polyblend tarp was a grand success, and my review for it can be found here:...
This past weekend I got a chance to take the new polyblend Tadpole tarp out for an overnight test hang in the Sierra mountain range, and it has exceeded any and all expectations right out the gate. ...
Full review coming soon. I've had this tarp in hand for a couple weeks now, but haven't been able to take it out just yet (and no place to set it up at home). Planning to get out with it this...
It seems like a lot of money (more so) if you look at spending it all at once. Imagine if you saw all the food you'll consume in a lifetime as one giant edible mountain right in front of you. You'd...
Ah! Okay, now I get it. Thank you much! Hadn't seen that video while doing my search.
This past weekend, I ordered the new version of the Tadpole tarp as well as the ridgeline cord/kit that's offered on the site. Just received it today, and I'm trying to figure out how to set up this...
I just ordered one of these tarps as well, and decided to order the ridgeline cord with it since the only SRL I have right now stays with my WB SF. Not directly related to the new tarp, but can...
I've seen that scam pop up repeatedly, both on Facebook and Instagram. They even have one claiming "92% off" for some Northface tent. Absolutely ridiculous...
This is the thread on FB that I pulled the image from. https://www.facebook.com/groups/198517790200647/permalink/1929770607075348/
The OP did happen to mention in there somewhere that he had hung...
Good looking out, Dutch, and thanks for the speedy response. Also, I hope that link that I PMed you worked.
I wish it was. This was one of the pictures of it that someone had posted.

I haven't had this happen with mine, but I have seen numerous consumer reports via the HF Facebook page(s) where people said they've had issues with the spider/poly straps shredding and/or breaking...
I haven't figured out a specific location yet, but it'll be somewhere in the Stanislaus National Forest of the Sierras.
About 4 years ago, I bought an OT 40° "compact" sleeping bag. By "compact", I mean it was their model that packs down to the size of one of our top quilts, and it doesn't fluff up at all once out of...
Not sure if this would be applicable to where you're at, but here in my neck of the woods I tend to find places to hike by reviewing our national forest map in PDF format. It shows all the hiking...
With some quick and simple modifications, that could easily be made to work even better. Nice find :thumbup1:
That's pretty much my usage as well. Everything that's in my pockets during the day goes in the RLO at night, and the shelf is where I toss my jacket, hat, and any other clothing that I won't be...
One shelf and a RLO is what I have, and it's worked out very well. I think a 2nd shelf would just be overkill, but on the other hand, I don't know what all you're planning to toss into it.
Yep, that's how many of us do it.

I'm typically just an overnighter kinda hiker. Especially nowadays since I work 5 and a half days per week. Not that I get to go on many trips, but when I do, I'll head out on Saturday and return...
Here's the page where our acronyms and such are listed. https://www.hammockforums.net/forum/content.php/149
Without any additional overstuff or anything, they're typically good to about 50 or 55°F. Of course, there are some people who have taken them lower than that. 50 to 55 seems to be about the...
I would think the shorter one with the down migrated would be warmer. Just my guess anyhow.

As someone mentioned already, I don't think that leading someone to this lifestyle is considered a bad influence at all. Let's just hope their spouses (if applicable) don't freak out over all the...
I want to say there's ample space and trees at one of the campgrounds at Kennedy Meadows. That's probably the spot they're referring to. It's right past the meadow before the trail to Relief...
One more before I head out to work: "Did anyone else hear those hikers last night? Sounded like they came right through my camp. I couldn't sleep for the rest of the night I was so freaked out!"

Or simply... "The original Grizz Bridge."
Ran across this photo during a Google image search, and thought it'd make for a good game of "caption this". So let's hear it. What caption would you put to...
To give an update, we did go out exploring today in search of a potential group hang location. Ended up heading eastbound on highway 108 into Stanislaus National Forest, but that turned out to be a...
I'm in Modesto as well, and I'm heading out this Saturday to try and scout out a location. I think my friend and I will be heading up highway 4 to see what we can find.

I was in a similar situation last year as I had been using a Grand Trunk SBP, and wanted to upgrade. Ended up going with a Chameleon, and I couldn't believe the difference in comfort. I thought I...
I have the medium size RL organizer from Arrowhead Equipment, and it's been excellent for what I use it for. Just the right size and amount of pockets. Two on one side, and one large pocket on the...
Welcome from the central valley (Modesto), and good deal on the DIY journey. Happy hanging
