There's no better way to stargaze than in a hammock.
Can look straight up; arms holding binocs are supported. Think about it for next meteor shower!
Now, we just need transparent trees ......

I use the NiteIze CamJam clips to adjust ridgelines quickly- Sunday, while it was raining! made it taunt.

Thanks. :D Another reason hammocks beat tents: got sandy shoes? Just flip the hammock; every grain of sand, gone.
A tent stays sandy.
Those are super lightweight Rocky C4s; lighter than tennis...
Finally had a photo-worthy hang at Gulf Islands National Seashore:

Hold your right hand out and make a "finger gun" - index finger out, thumb up.
Draw a dotted line from point of finger to top of thumb: it's about 30 degrees. This works shockingly well!

Hate to carry it, but pillow's a must have. Mine's a self-inflating one ... Summit Outfitters Airpak Pillow. Lightweight, compressible.

Thanks. Big Heinlein fan!
Apparently everyone's needs and uses are different, and there's a lot of ultralight travelers here. I'm somewhere in-between; used to hike way too heavy; switched to a...
I have been struggling with the tarp ridgeline, and may have finally "grokked" it - I can simply use another CamJamXT with its biner hook through one tarp eyelet (see illustration "2") and thus, be...
Cat attempted to join me in the 11-footer last weekend.
Twice. :scared:
With those razor-sharp claws, it would have been the end of that hammock.

Just ordered 12kN replacement biners; going to use the low-rated ones for ridgelines.
Many thanks for noticing, @Five Tango.

No, no- there are two hammocks; the Yukon came with metal screw shackles, wich I replaced with the Mad Rock carabiners.
The Twisted Root hammock came with the low-rated biners in question.

No, I've been hanging from them. And to think I doubled up the Amsteel loops 'cause I didn't *really* trust the stuff!

Well; great point. Though I've upgraded the Yukon's biners to Mad Rock climbers, the ones shown on the Twisted Root ARE the stock ones it came with! so I assumed they were adequate. I weigh about a...
Bears have become a serious nuisance/danger here lately. One knocked down and smashed/ate my neighbor's bird feeder Saturday.
Just missed seeing the huge black bear Sunday- I refused to take a...
Thanks, all!
You trip over stuff, and get overwhelmed- then sit down and digest it all- and hopefully, apply what you've learned.
I was "forced" to spend most of Saturday studying that book- in...
Buying a hammock is easy. Sticking a toe into this forum's "waters" can be an information overload!
So I bought the book ... Derek's book is a big help.

Florida just had a large bear hunt last year; there are just more of them.
They're talking about raising our trash rates to pay for bear-proof cans. They HAVE been seen on our street, and even our...
No, never heard of Kisatchie. This was in/near Gulf Islands National Seashore. Bears are the new nuisance these days. Last week it was coyotes; we've gotten used to them, now. Many disappeared pets,...
In for one, for the same exact reasons! (Have the Yukon, want longer).
Planning on a custom, but not for three more months (Christmas). Best of hiking-hanging is coming Oct.-Nov.-Dec.
Thanks.

Thanks all. :)
This is nothing to those who live in real bear country, but they are/were very rare here locally. Only recently a group of three, including a cub, have been seen in...
Good morning, group! (I wasn't going to say "Howdy, hangers." Can't pull that off.)
As an occasional browser of shop site Woot, I sometimes grab outdoors stuff if it seems like a great deal....
