Hey all, anybody ever make down top quilts? I did a search but came up empty. And if so, where would one get good down, and what material would be best. it is really more for the ground than...
Mud season! What a hoot! Who knew of such a thing. Haven't got to hike much yet, but soon to follow. Nice state. Big as Europe and more bears than people.:D
Hey all. Been a while since I have been here. Moved from so Fl to Maine. Yep shoveled a butt load of snow this winter. Kinda neat. You guys have a ton of people online here.
Ok can you explain digaonal to me?
thanks
with a width of 5' , wouldn't the sides of the body come way up on each side? Or is that desired? Trying to figure a ratio of body to netting and zipper install. My first attempt was nice, but as...
Hey all. It's been a while since I've been. Went backpacking in the Smoky's. I saw a need to make a hammock. Just wondering what material you recommend for the hammock and fly? IE: 1.9 oz coated...
all good info guys, thanks. Spent too much thought and time on makeing it to let them thwart me if I am legal.
I was just playing with ya. I too follow the rules. I just saw about a bazillion places to hang out that were perfect. Can't use them down here in the state parks as well. :(
Yep I have got all kinds of stuff from them. Seattle fabrics as well
a little snippy but no offense. I did mention a while back I saw a guy put two eye bolts into trees to hang. I can see where they are coming from. Just wanted to try out my new homemade hanger. ...
Has anybody ever used the silver thermo emergency blankets under for heat. I know they work well inside a tent in a pinch. Reflect a lot of heat back. Just a thought.
I was talking to the rangers today and they said they don't allow hammocks typically in the park. they said for backcountry camping you have to stay at a designated site. Reserved or not. They...
It beats the hell out of so FL. WE have a house on the water all ready to buy and move into. Was in the family. 92 degrees here yesterday. I'll take what I can get.
I tore the no see-um netting attached to the hammock. It is held up from the ridge lines. It was sewn on but I am considering velcro to remove as needed.
What part of Maine. I am considering moving to Kittery. Thanks
Nothing? Nada? No input at all. Not feeling the love here.:(
Ok I got my new so-seeum netting to replace the one I tore.
Would you all reccomend sewing it or using velcro for easy removal. Keep in mind I would use it a lot in south Florida. Just...
I was thinking of the seat belt 1 1/2' but I'd like to see the camo you mentioned. What is there web site name? I couldn't find them. Thanks
Thanks. Just what I figured. Getting polypro.
nobody??? Come on, don't leave me hanging. Ha.:(
If I order my own strapping material, How long would you all reccomend, including waste. I go to the GSMNP so big trees might be in the future. Thanks
I once saw some dink screw eye bolts into two trees to hang. What a putz. I'll make my own tree friendly ones.
I actually meant polyester. thanks
gotta love a budget, some thought and a garage.
Hey all, I am curious re: Tree Huggers. Are they all that and a bag of chips? Or will 1 1/2" Nylon made myself do the same thing. Keep in mind money is never a consideration when it comes to toys....
My dog tried to jump in my hammock and I put my elbow thru the no-seeum netting to keep him off. Good Dog!:scared:
I sewed a piece of nylon on the netting from one end to the other to beef it up where my shock cords attach to the rigeline. I would add two pieces on that seam and make them into loops and just...
Money is never and a concern when it comes to toys. Where do I find the summer underquilt you mentioned? And at what temp to you guys use insulation?
I have considered that very thing. I would have to unzip the mosquito net either way. but being off balanced or pulling down would bug me too. What about your boots? Where do you put them at...
Hey newbie here. I'm curious re: pads in temps down to the 50"s I have seen people mention closed cell foam to down. any input would be great.
Hey all. I am wondering what you guys store in the pockets on the outside of your hammock? boots in a large one, headlamps, raingear? Just trying to configure before I sew them on. Thanks
yep it's not the tannin to worry about, it's all the chemicals from runoff. Which is why we don't eat freshwater fish. I was in the nursery business for a long time and I can't tell you what...
Yep filter and then filter and then once again if really bad. Florida water is filled with all kinds of bad stuff.
The last bad burn hike was at Jonathon Dickenson State Park. Fire got way out of control.
Me too. but they keep doing the "controled burns" and I use that term loosly, and ya never know what to expect. Our last hike looked like the dark side of the moon. thanks:scared:
Learning the do's and don'ts of hammock building. Has anyone got ideas on rigging it for a ground bivy if no trees are present? The state parks in Florida don't allow hammocks. Thanks.
Gotcha. Sounds familiar. I'll heed your advice.
Hey All. I just wandered over from the Backpacker's forum. I am new to hammocks. I am a very profficent seamster, so I am currently sewing my own. Not to save money, but for the fun of it. I'll ...
