I’m with Mike. A whipping knot on the end is the easiest way to do it. I use the tail of the piece that had the bury on it to tie it. ...
I made one and liked it a lot. That is until it ripped at the "center seam" on both sides. I chalk it up to my sewing skills at that time.
In the past if you wanted to go with cuban fiber it was cheaper to buy from somebody that mass produces than make them. Once you bought all the cleaners and tape that you needed you really where only...
They haven’t slipped on me. My big hands and the small hardware with tiny line are hard to maneuver esp when cold.

They are the sewn on version

I have reflect-it on my new tarp. Also I opted for silk worms since I've been wanting to try them out. I found that used in the conventional way they are a pain to adjust and get the right tension on...
Depends. I went against conventional wisdom and used silpoly on the outside layer of mine. With living in Kansas I have to contend with 20+ mph most of the time. Even more so when camping out at the...
Does anybody have advice on how to sew different weight fabrics together?
I'm in the planning stages of making a wind shirt. I like the idea of using Dutches 1.9 oz dobby fabric with maybe argon...
Six of these, half a dozen of those. Its all the same, only different colors. I prefer the ucr variety of ridgeline. Also i use 2.2mm cord due to being 350 lbs.
It is from my personal experience on the lenght of bury needed for UCR's. I tried 8 inch, 10 inch, and 12 inch buries when I made my first set. That's the measurement before splicing. 8 inch bury...
Weight of the occupant has tons to due with the bury length needed!
I, all 350 lbs of me, need a 12 inch bury which equates to a finished lenght of 10 inches. I use squids method minus i take the...
Im 6'4" 350 lbs and fill up a standard size door way. My 20° DIY topquilt is only 48 inches wide. Its great in a hammock. I love it everytime I use it, until I had to go to ground one night along the...
Don't quote me on this, but i believe most venders use a very slight if any differential cut on top quilts. So they get away with being able to go wider without adding extra material.
You can always do the sides of the quilt with a contrasting color. That gains you four inches. Then if you follow it up the curve you can gain a few more.
Thats awesome that its worked out so well for you.
I think Sgt. Rock and a few others did a hug style overcover a while back. I'll see if I can find the link. Always wanted to try and make one,...
I tried 7/64th amsteel with dutch hooks and after a few hangs they frayed then snapped my CL. Im 350 lbs tho and im pretty sure all of dutches stuff i exceed the posted weight limits
Can you give an eta on when you will be restocking the different shades of green multi-buckles, or answer if they will be restocked them at all?
I'm thinking about going back to straps for the...
350 lbs and i hang from ucr's made of 7/64th amsteel with whoopie hook/double whoopie hooks. They have never failed me. If they make you uncomfortable i would switch to straps with dutches ti cinch...
350 and i made one out of 2x2 and 1 inch emt conduit. Bound with 550 cord held up well till i decided to take it apart in favor of trees outside.
If you do a forum search somebody made a water break out of sugru. It looked great and was very unique.
The slippage is probably from using a smaller cord. Dutch has said that his designs are based around the use of 1.75 or similar size cordage. I would call, email, or post a question in the dutchware...
Start at the middle of the cat cuts and work towards the points. I remember reading it in a thread like this one. Tried it and works great. Some also suggest cutting little V's into the fabric to...
You can always contact the local utility company for some free used or broken power/street light poles. At least around here they will give them to you and usually have several dozen laying about for...
Yeah! A split ring is the same thing as a key chain ring. They are usually used as a "fuse" in a system. The ring will deform or fail completely, thus saving your tarp from ripping out. But tato tarp...
Are they split rings? If so take the tato connector to your local hardware store and match new split rings that work for you. On the other hand if they d rings you can tie small continuous loop out...
Lol I was looking at all the pillows and such. Should of guessed it was loose down.
Post a link my good sir! Post that link for the rest of us to share in the fluffy downess!!
I like it a lot!! Thanks for sharing and experimenting with new designs.
WarBonnet Superfly is about that plus shipping. 11 foot tarp with doors and double panel pulls on each side.
350 lbs and i use the standard (aka mara 70) thread, somebody posted that they use mara 100 or 120 for a lot of stuff. If it makes you feel safe us mara 50. Thats my thoughts on it.
Tried that, cord moves to much when trying to cut or trace it. Tried thin strips of wood bent, they work better for me. But plotting points every 2 inches is even easier to implement. Plus as they...
Take your time with needle nose pliers and pull a little bit at a time. The start is always the hardest, but once you get going they will pull right out.
My only question would be are you laying on the green strips or are they under the hammock? Cause both sound like they would shift on you if not stiched/glued down. What would be the estimated weight...
Only problem is you laying on the stiching would be uncomfortable. That and seems in the middle of the hammock could give you a weak spot
Becket hitch jams and takes pliers to undo if your lucky otherwise it burns/shreads the leader. Jbend is the same but only jams. Tried others but they all ended it dramatic failure with a quick...
Hate to say it phantom, i have not found a knot that doesnt slip, jam, or shread an amsteel lead. Granted im 350 lbs so smaller people might have better luck. I've converted to ucr's made with knots...
.9 oz noseeum mesh makes a great tarp stuff sack. Water runs right through it, so no worries of it soaking up to much moisture setting on the end of your tarp. Usually keep my extra lines in it so...
My guylines are what i tenision. I try to hang the tarp a bit higher then i want the final height to be. Then use guy lines to put tension on ridgeline and that brings it down to where i want it set...
Grapplers hitch, dutch clip, carabiner to name a few. Im using ucr's larksheaded to huggers with grapplers hitch for around the tree and whoopie/double whoopie hooks for the hammock.
I would say that it is worth it. I have all the materials gathered up except the down for my next set of quilts and will be doing pretty much exactly what you are doing. Minus using ultra light...
My first diy underquilt i made out of membrane .67 on the inside and .9 silpoly on the outside. Living in Kansas you deal with wind. While a tarp helps block wind the layer of silpoly lets me set up...
A scrap piece of zingit tied in a short loop is what i used. Tried a short section of amsteel burried right before the bury. Didnt like it much. Switched to ucr's and no longer worry about pulling...
Check out dutches Line Lock Light, almost looks identical.
If you like where it is set at you can measure it, then turn it into a non adjustable ridgeline. Means no tail to worry about. I leave mine hanging. I made a UCR style ridgeline so the tail is at my...
Yarn needles work great too. I change between needles, loop turner, and folded wire regularly for amsteel. Aka whichever is easiest to find or close at hand. The smaller yarn needles are my perfered...
Yep, I just made a set of mini ucr's for my new tarp out of dutches black and green reflective lashit for tieouts. Black for the long rope and green for the constrictor part. I used some of the black...
Quick search of the internet says its kind of like kevlar from dupont. I'm sure it would work just fine in place of lashit/zingit. Has the same avg breaking strenght and is spliceable
Why not connect the whoopies straight to the hammock and remove the CL from the equation? Then you wouldn't need to worry about compression.
I bought some blue and green amsteel for this purpose. I finally talked the girlfriend into trying hammocks. Making her a 10 foot forest green hammock with green UCR's with blue for the double...
Placed my order yesterday for ten yards of green tea along with other goodies. I was almost to pull the trigger friday on dutches wide silpoly in forest green, but nothing beats the green tea color...
