If you could go anywhere in the US for a week of hammock camping where would you go? Presume money is not an issue. Why would you go there? What does that location offer?
I am planning to...
if still available I will take it
payment sent
ill take the down booties for $15
welcome aboard the hammock train
I just got back from two days out in the Shenandoah National Park. My 12 year old son and I went with no set plans but had a ball. We hiked out about 15 miles and found some really beautiful views....
ditto on reading "The Ultimate Hang" a couple of times, also surf HF for a while - you will gain so much info from here. As far as equipment goes, I like my Warbonnet BB XLC and use dutch bling for...
i did not mean sue the government but if they fine you then fight the ticket - depending on what agency they may need to prove that the ordinance is lawful, that it went through a rule making process...
make the government defend their actions in court if you can. make them prove that hammocking is harmful - they may back down when they realize they need to defend something that is not defensible. ...
OK I did some research and the ban was first put in place in 1964 but was never enforced until this past year. But here is what burns me up it had nothing to do with irresponsible college kids...
I am a hybrid camper (not by choice). I try to only use hammocks but there are times when I am camping with the boy scouts I need to ground sleep. I use a Stephenson Warmlite Triple Sleeping Bag. ...
how long is the bury in your whoopie sling? I had the same problem and re did my bury adding 4 inches just to play it safe.
Cool idea but how is this any lighter or better then amsteel soft shackles? I would rather keep extra amsteel soft shackles around instead of paracord that can fail.
The reason I warn you against drywall screws is I had a bad experience with them many years ago. When we moved into our house and loaded all the kitchen cabinets up with dishes - one of the cabinets...
As a former Lobbyist (both state and federal) I would never propose legislation that would require a license for hammocking. it would start in the few states that prohibit it and spread all over in...
now that is a great girlfriend - marry her before she actually realizes your great obsession.
I have one suggestion - I would never trust drywall screws, they are weak and the head can shear off. I would use decking screws. they are stronger and won't shear off at the head.
i think personal preference. Whoopie slings are more than strong enough and the temp should not have any effect on them.
A friend of mine drove to South Dakota from Oklahoma for business (he likes driving). When he left SD he made a Right on the highway to go home. He did not realize he was going in the wrong...
Well as you can guess I'm someone who believes deeply in the liberty of each individual and try to do my part to keep government and other individuals from infringing on it. Hammock camping is the...
I made a couple soft shackles tonight - they were easy to make. The knot is a little bigger which I like. Im going to try them out this weekend.
thanks for the video.
great find, and it looks like it is in great shape. no need to trash something that is not broken.
looks like a good call to me - decent equipment that is re-sellable if it does not work for you. If you do get into hammock camping all the time keep an eye on the for sale section - good deals on...
besides the possibility of failure para cord also stretches. I agree switch to am steel 7/64 you won't regret it.
i will take the Solo wood burning stove and matching pot
A word of caution hardware cloth may contain lead. NEVER use it to cook on it could contaminate your food with lead. Even heating it can with a pan on top can release lead into the air around you. ...
thanks I will
i like this soft shackle and going to make a couple tonight. I will test them this weekend.
here is their link
and I got it wrong it is Lifeflight of Maine
http://lifeflightmaine.org
i know many friends in Maine who support this group. Nothing wrong with saving light houses but...
there is also a great charity up there - I think the name is Maine Life Flight. they run helicopters to hospitals. a huge help to the lobstermen and other fishermen in Maine.
sounds like a great hang. Port Clyde is so beautiful. there is a nice general store there that serves a mean breakfast.
Congratulations - now sell off your ground tent and bag so you will never be tempted to go back. lol
get her a hammock and take her to a nice beach. - with something to hang from of course. that might start changing her mind
sorry I miss read your email - you are looking for the total weight. I still would give them a call they can give you exactly what you are looking for. did you order a top cover also? they are...
mine came with a stuff sack and straps - I'm sure if you call them they can substitute whoopie slings. they are nice and easy to deal with
Is that one hammock sewn into a V to hold 2 people? Wouldn't it be easier to use two hammocks and some dutch bling to hang them next to each other?
also is it a bridge hammock? i don't see...
that hammock looks cool - nice job.
You should be able to easily detach your whoopie sling and straps from your hammock. Even though you like knots sometime hardware is better for certain jobs. I use dutch whoopie hooks to attach my...
it depends on the weather but i have friends who run a line between one tree their hammock is attached to and another tree around 20 feet away. then put a lead line on on the running line so your...
Make sure if you use a water bottle it won't leak. I use my nalgene and put it into a sock, it has never leaked but I have a friend who used a generic bottle and woke up with wet quilts.
So...
do you mind sharing the actual dimensions?
Besides all the good content changes and addition suggestions from my fellow hangers, I also think you need to pay close attention to readability.
Make it easy to read, not two many lines per...
I'm only 5'6 and have a couple of hammocks. The short ones are great to lounge around in, maybe take a nap in the back yard but for a good night sleep while camping I like my 11' - I just lay better...
will your son also be doing some ground camping? if so you can use a top quilt for both or look for a used Stevenson Warmlite triple down bag. it is a bag that has no bottom insulation but a pad...
ok where do i find the full membership list?
I use a Stevenson Warmlite triple down bag which is rated at -20F and i use it in my WBBB XLC with an under quilt. I love the combination, it keeps me warm and can be used for ground camping also. ...
DiyGuy83 made me a top quilt using a costco quilt and I love it. The quality is great and I can't wait to use it in the spring.
I just bought a used Stevenson Warmlite triple down sleeping bag and have already used in my hammock. It is designed without bottom insulation but a pad pocket. works great for both hammock...
I just had DiyGuy83, one of the other members on here, make me a top quilt. he did a fantastic job it looks great and well made. If you have a quilt and don't think you can do the project ask him...
