How many days are you setting aside for this, Twisty?
Thanks much, possum daddy!
I'm thinking of a trip to Deep Gap and Pilot Mountain, starting with the Davidson River Trail; then on to Daniel Ridge to Farlow Gap to Art Loeb trails. Coming back would be taking the Art Loeb and...
I'm going to do an overnighter touching Sam's Knob starting this Sunday (10 April): https://caltopo.com/m/T0DGU
Let me know if you would like to join, and we'll work out the details.
Price drop to $225!
Medium torso height (20-23 inches); medium belt size (30-45 inches). This pack is six years old, but still in very good condition. Price new is $378. I am asking $250. Note: this pack was built...
Twistytee - OK, my Forums email is broken, and I can't find information on how to fix it. Please email me at [email protected] about this Saturday.
Twisty tee - I tried to send you an email, but I’m not sure now if it worked.
Well, howdy! Where do you like to backpack east of the Mississippi in August? I picked the Shining Rock area because I wanted to get above 5,000'. :)
Thanks! I’m pretty much a new comer to the area.
I don't see a closure, but, you're right, the area could still be a mess. Grayson Highlands is an hour further for me. Thanks for your offer - let me think on it!
I'm thinking of an overnighter to Shining Rock this weekend, starting from Camp Daniel Boone. I prefer Fri/Sat, but if you can't get Friday off, Sat/Sun might also work.
Any interest?
OK, I'm in! I'm taking my wife to the Asheville Airport early Saturday morning, so I'll have plenty of time to get lost, and still be there before noon. :D
Thanks, Bob! I'll do just about anything to lower my winter base weight - except sleep on the snow.
Worked at least twice, but, then, so did the Space Shuttle.
I wish! I haven't weighed 140 for years. (I'm at 150 now.)
I am interested, but it will be next Wednesday before I can commit. I hope that's OK.
Please post if you plan this trip again.
I guess I just got lucky on my two winter trips this year with the Cloud71. Going to ground is one thing; going to snow is another. ;)
Does anyone know if the Beastee D-ring on an HG hammock will fit comfortabley inside the hook on a Dutch Ringworm? Or, given the separation, has the Ringworm got to grab some kind of cord?
Thanks!
Thanks much! I'm new to Florida, and it seems like there are a lot of "Gator Holes". :D I'm down in Collier County - maybe I an join you folks next time.
Pardon my ignorance, but is this in Lee County?
Thanks much for all of that!
Frankly, I'd prefer colder. I'm thinking about late January.
Thanks much for the report! I'll be bringing my Moulder Strip!
Thanks much, George. I'll be in your quilts! :D
Has anyone done any hammock hanging in the Pharaoh Lakes Wilderness Area?
I am happy to transfer my reservation, but it sounds like I don't need to in order for everything to work out, whether I decide to go or not. I haven't been to Batona when the forecast called for...
Ossining must have been a shock! But, now, you're the subfreezing-weather canister stove maven!
The forecast has changed quite a bit. I would not normally drive two hours to spend a day in the rain, but one of the sites is in my name. I've got a 16' Kelty tarp that could be useful in the...
Thanks for sharing!
Where did you find 28°F in Florida? It was 80°F when I left Naples last week! :D
OutandBack - where's your favorite place in CO to take that monster? :D
Of course, I agree about baffle depth being much more important than overstuff - that's science! I was just saying that I...
Site 6 is now reserved. You know, guys, it hurts that I'm always the one who has to reserve the site next to the outhouse.

Sorry, OutandBack, I couldn't work my iPhone camera with my gloves on, and it was too cold to take them off!
Stokes is nice, but you've got the best of it with the Lost Creek Wilderness.
I have assembled the materials for a Moulder Strip, and hope to test it soon. My WhisperLite weighs too much!
Thanks!
I checked with my buddy with the thermometer, and it was 8.6 degrees, which rounds to 9. Call me a liar for one degree!
Are you related to Bob Moulder?
Ghost pepper is the one for me, then. Order placed!
Thanks, George! I think I get it now. The chevrons keep insulation from shifting to the right and left edges of the quilt, while the diamond baffles allow insulation to move up and down the quilt.
Thanks! I guess my old eyes can't spot the difference between the diamond and the chevron patterns from the photos. From the descriptions, I thought they might just be different names for the same...
Can someone please help out old El Gordo, and explain the difference between the Ghost Pepper and the Dragon's Breath top quilts? The description of the Ghost Pepper mentions "chevron" baffles,...
[QUOTE=Nameth;1999843]Very nice, planning to order my own 10° Habanero in the very near future! Did you get the head end draft collar? And is that the Moss Green? If so, is that pic an accurate...
Stokes Forest Saturday night.
OK, I know that's not cold for Shug, but it's the coldest I've done, and I have my new, beautiful Habanero 0 degree under-quilt to thank for it. I asked for an extra ounce of down, and I swear...
Sorry, but ya'll gotta wait for me to get my 0-degree Habanero ordered back on Oct. 2nd! But, I don't mind waiting for such a fabulous quilt..... much.
Risky - there will be a ratdog right next to #6 campsite.
