Chair height also. It is easier to get into and out of..... LOL
Since I started hanging instead of sleeping on the ground, my lower back does not hurt and I can hike longer each day. The fact that I have cut the weight in my backpack may have helped.
I have been using mine for a few years now. As mentioned above, the popularity may be that is is not a super lightweight backpacking tarp. I don't find the weight to be a deal breaker and like the...
Been very happy with DD Hammocks 3x3 (meters) tarp. Not the lightest, very durable and plenty of coverage area. Ships quickly.
Here is the link for GSMP backcountry regulations.

I use a Snugpak UQ and a 20 degree sleeping bag and have been comfortable between 30 - 35. I have not tried any lower mainly because I don't want to be out any colder!
Welcome from East Tennessee. Hope you enjoy it as much as we have.
Welcome from right down the road. Hope you enjoy HF. Lots of good people and this IS a great area to live.
Welcome form East Tennessee. You will enjoy the forum. Lots of good information ( and people)
How low can you go or how low do you want to go???
I must be getting old because I don't function in the cold like I once did. LOL.
Welcome from TN. We used to live in Athens.
Will check dates for availability. Sounds like a good time though.
That is a good hike. You will go over Rocky Top (3665') and Thunderhead Mtn (5528') back to back. Clingmans Dome is the highest elevation of GSMP in Tennessee at 6634'. You will take the Anthony...
^^^^ couldn't agree more ^^^^
Always use extreme caution and make sure foundation is solid before you hang. Don't use dead trees!!!!
Welcome from TN
I am a self-proclaimed knot nut. I like to use them whenever possible in camping and for various other applications. I have heard it said, if you can't tie a knot - tie a lot.
I do not use UQ, but use fleece blankets or 3-season bag. I also have a bug net hammock so the bugs don't bother me.
Got a DD Hammock 3x3 (meters). It cost $70 and shipping was incredible. It arrived within 1 week.
Sounds like a good time was had by all. Really enjoyed the blog and video. props on the Pink Floyd.
And I also once lived in Irmo.
Tarp, sleeping bag, UQ, straps, hammock ...... 9 lb 6 oz.
Looks like this weekend may be a cold one. Have fun!
where is the like button
Yep you are right. The Snugpack fits good and works even better, but that TQ sure looks comfortable in the video.
Wish this would have been available before I bought the Snugpack QU. It works great on the Yukon mosquito hammock, but $100 for TQ & UQ is unbelievable. May pull the trigger anyway.
Jackets on sale for $24. May have to make trip to belk myself for one of these. even got a $10 coupon!:D
I purchased a DD 3 x 3 tarp (meters), it weighs 28 oz. and have been happy with it. My hammock is 10'6" and there seems to be plenty room. Delivery time was unreal, got it in less than a week....

Most places won't even allow hammocks to be attached to shelters. In the Smokies reservations are needed for shelters.
That section has some of the best outcrop views I have ever seen. One of my favorite hikes. Enjoy.
Ha first attempt to attach photo didn't work to well!
Really like the idea of adjustable C channel. Just put my son's up using I bolts in 2 studs.

We are getting that storm right now. Big, wet, heavy snow. It is really pretty, but road conditions are hazardous on the backroads. Would be careful if it warms and refreezes.
Welcome from TN (by way of Athens & Macon GA)
i also have the Yukon with bug netting. Being new, it is ok so far. I am sure I will be upgrading and changing a few things. good thing about having bug net attached is that if you don't need it just...
not sure if your straps have notches or if you could attach strap closer to tree with Marlin spike and then attach carabiners. If you run ridgeline, you can get rain fly or tarp above hammock.
Half...
Banjo, that is awesome looking tarp. Know you are looking forward to use it.
Congrats on good job.
Thanks ShorRound, ordered the QU yesterday. I think it will serve me well as a first blanket until I figure out what I really need.
I was thinking of getting a tarp, being new to hammocks. Weight may be an issue here though. May end up using for car camping. Plus, it may be March befire they are shipped. Also looking at a tarp at...
I just ordered the SnugPack UQ today. Haven't been able to sleep in cold conditions yet, so i'm pretty excited to get started.
Thanks for the link. Looked and they do look pretty good. the 3 x 3 is 10 x 10 I think.
good job. Looks nice and toasty.
No, I really appreciate info. for the beginning I may get this one until I feel comfortable being out for more than a couple days. I think this little habit can cost some $$$ if you are not careful....
Being very new, what is considered average weight?
Good report. Man those creeks are crazy high. We have had a lot of rain, but didn't realize how much. Thanks for those amazing pictures.
Was wondering if anyone has experience with these? Looking for first tarp and saw a few video reviews on the Apex. Seems like a pretty good deal. Any thoughts?
Being a newbie, any help...

Did the same thing last week. Highs got to the 70s lows in the 50s. Hung the hammock in the screened porch and spent the night outside. Very enjoyable for Dec in TN.
Welcome neighbor (East TN). Hope you enjoy the site as much as I have. Being new to hammocks also, you will find a lot of help. Good luck and keep hanging!
