I wish I could go this year, but covid took a toll on me and I'm still trying to heal.
Hawn is in my backyard nearly and is a great location. As in the past, I'll go with what the majority want. Now, for the disclaimer: If my back and ankle do not get better, I'm gonna miss this...
You convinced me, I ordered through Massdrop just now. LOL
I expect to be there midmorning. The weather sure changed for today, Friday, with rain most of the day. Freezing rain possible early with storms mid day.
Incidentally, I talked to two people who went out on the OT this past weekend. They advised to be on the lookout for TICKS!!! Both of them got a tick. WTH?
I don't think it's a new rule. I read posts about it dating back to 2013.
I read where you can use your 1" straps, as long as you put a 2" webbing tucked under it where it contacts the tree. Truth be told, I have not heard of anyone who ever got in trouble using 1". A...
On another site, I talked to people who had done this same hike over New Years. They advised bring extra socks, the trail is wet/muddy. As always, this trail is very rocky and most prefer shoes...

I gave up a long time ago being able to enjoy other peoples food. Between various food allergies and being a very picky eater, I just go ahead and eat my own. :(
Cannot eat onions or bell peppers,...
As of now, I will be getting there Friday, early.
No problem with water on this one.
Oh, by the way, would you be interested in selling your WB underquilt and topquilt? I'm in the market.
Not sure what browser you use on your home computer, but in Mozilla, you can go to tools, options, privacy & security, saved passwords, show passwords, yes. The scroll down till you see Hammock...

I've lived my whole life based on the theory that adversity makes you stronger.......or will kill you.
I'm still planning on making it. Right now I'm sick as a dog, but maybe I'll be better by then.
The forecast is changing daily for that area.
Thus, so is my gear.

All this great knowledge is helping me a lot. I wish there was a way to click a "like" button on each post or some quick way to acknowledge that a particular post was very helpfull.
I haven't used the Kelly Kettle for over a year. I like it actually, but it doesn't fit in with backpacking. Same with 90% of the gear I have collected over the years. It's all good, for car...
I think you and all the rest of you going, should overload the worse packs you have. Don't forget your cast iron skillets.
That way, If I get an early enough start, I might not be the last one to...
A 3 liter is bag is all I have.
One small canister and one partial.
My only real luxury is a Helinox Chair One. (My back, butt, and knees will thank me) I am quite positive I could lose a few things, but ............ LOL
I expect to make mistakes. Actually, I'm...
I must drink a lot more coffee than you. LOL
32+4 breakfast (cups of coffee and rehydrate food)
16/dayx2=32 for drinking on trail
32 for coffee/drinking water/rehydrate food, Sat afternoon/night...
Good, cause my goretex poncho weighs a lot less than my heavy winter parka. I've loaded and unloaded my pack a dozen times trying to get the weight down, already. As it stands now, with the parka,...
"Just finished hiking around Berlin and London for two weeks"
Ah, now I know who you are, old buddy.
As I said earlier, while I have kayak camped using mostly backpacking gear many times, this is my first real backpacking trip, much less in cold weather. One hell of a learning curve. Right now, my...
Same here.
Right now I have a 19 degree down REI Radient sleeping bag which is, well, ok. I've only tested it in the hammock one time and it worked reasonably down to about 45 degrees using a reflective...
Starting to get worried looking at the forcast. My gear can't handle single digits, that's for sure. Everything I have is rated for 20-25 degrees, which to me means it can handle 30 at best. Of...
My gear is rated only to 25F, but with the weather we have been having so far, it might work. I got plenty of base layers to help out if needed. Count me in. Twentybelow, your posting of your...
I too spliced my Zingit to my stakes and such. Glad I did, but went through several "needles" doing it. It took so much pressure pushing on them that they would bend.
Sorry, I guess my setup isn't "exactly" the same. I use Tarp Door Hooks, but use them the same way as the buckles in the video.
I also use the same hammock, but have the Superfly tarp. This video is exactlyt how I set my tarp up. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SHWpK4iIsSw
FYI, the Lindsey Mountain Trailhead I mentioned is part of the above Bell Mountain Wilderness.

Lindsey Mountain Trailhead
I find this to be a perfect spot for secluded camping. The trailhead is at the end of the...
I've reserved site 4 - all other sites are open as of now. This is usually early blueberry season, but there should be enough to enjoy with morning breakfast.
I'll be hiking in from Atsion.
Thanks everybody.
No service unfortunately.
Camping on the river in a few days. No chance of rain in the forecast, but if there is a heavy dew, naturally I would want to set up my tarp. Do any of you know how I could predict dewfall?
Welcome from another Missourian.
Twentybelow, Most of my hangs are a result of kayaking, so I have plenty of drybags. One of each size but 3L in http://www.seatosummitusa.com/product/?item=Big+River+Dry+Bag&o1=0&o2=0&o3=362-36 with...
These work great for me.

This pretty much sums up the shape we are in right now. 149463
You said you used a bear bag on this trip. Curious what you used and how you hung it (PCT?)
The place I like is to head in off HWY 32 at the Enough Branch entrance. Just before you get to the boat ramp, there is a small road turning to your left. It crosses a low water slab. 100 ft away...
As far as I have seen, it's like most camp sites. Some for RV and car camping with no electric at any site. If I recall, it also has primitive sites for tents. These are walk in places, within...
Very good read. I felt like I was along for the ride.
