You can also upload the picture to the HammockForums gallery, then copy the BB Image Code from the text box on the image page into your message.
Yes - it violated the vendor guidelines in the TOS.
On a lot of forums, a newbie will pop in with a question and immediately get squashed with comments like "Use the search function" and "ANOTHER question on THIS," or just general ridicule for asking...
We do not host charity events on HF, no matter how good the cause.
Could be. Also depends on the type of tree, too...thick bark vs thin bark, for example. If you do any experimentation, it would be great to see it here! :jj:
The force of a piece of rope keeping a dock in place is likely MUCH lower than the force of holding a person in a hammock. Paranoia is a pretty strong word if you don't have the numbers to back it...
Hrm...maybe there's a reason we didn't announce this one beforehand... :jj:
I like simple. I like that I had time to sit around and sit. Just sit. Simple.
We gonna move this to the trip report forum?
Glad you're back. You should write a travel guide on WaKeeney...you've probably seen everything they offer.
No ticks here but I have cortisone on LOTS of bug bites on my legs.
This was such a great trip. I didn't realize how bad I needed to get away until I got there and finally relaxed...and the company was a big part of that. Not that I can publicly approve all the...
Yeah - I have tank heaters but they're still exposed. When I get some time, I'm gonna add the Reflectix to the tanks and to the pipes. Gotta get some more Ultra-Heat pads for the drain pipes...
Working good so far...been on a few short trips. We had it down to 5F (-9 wind chill) and were acceptably warm. We do have a couple of electric heaters. I've been modding it up a bit...
Those are some serious hammock stakes! Would probably work with the stand.
Elite - I think this stand would be great for the beach, but I wouldn't put it below the water line...pretty sure the waves would erode the sand enough that you'd be wet in the morning.
I don't...
Great pics from everyone! I had a good time even though I was only there for one of the nights!
Clipping biners onto the straps is much quicker and easier, and keeps the entire kit in one piece so you don't risk leaving something behind.
If you're considering leaving the biners behind to...
I still use ring buckles pretty often...it's what I had at the CO Winter Hang last weekend. I also like the cinch buckles, when I use webbing. No need for a safety knot with those.
They get kicked back.
Seriously, the DM section is where the mods spend most of our time resolving petty conflicts, stopping people from getting around the family-friendly word filter, etc. A...
I withhold my stickers and cards for political favors from our ad sponsors.
I made my hammock sock. Papa Smurf makes them, too.
I didn't mention my stove stuff...first use of my JetBoil Sol, which is optimized for cold weather. I used it right around 20F and it boiled...
Probably June/July timeframe. I'll be around for a spring hang but will probably have too much going on to make a summer one.
First things first - I didn't get stuck! (But since I know y'all care, here's the video from last time...)

I didn't get good pictures, but here are two. First one is me trying to...
I'm not the one who got stuck in the snow, btw... :jj:
Just to repeat what AS said - HF brings in enough money through donations and advertisements to cover operating costs, bandwidth and software expenses, etc. We're able to comfortably meet those...
I can't get out of work early today and I have three sick family members...so I might not make it up there tonight. Still planning on coming up tomorrow morning, though.
I'll have tow strap,...
That's awesome, Jason! Having a single strut would make car-camping in campgrounds or deserts much easier as well...just hang off the car!
Seeing your new component for other hammocks, I think I...
I think most states say that all front-seat passengers and children under 6 yrs or 60 pounds (some states are up to 80 pounds) have to be buckled...other than that, the ones I've lived in don't...

I'm still in. I'm in for whichever plan most folks want...I'm good either way.
Uh oh. You know how my Jeep is in the snow... :jj:
Please can the political commentary.
I'll let the slavery part remain because it provides some information that others may want to consider when deciding where to spend their money, but be sure...
This would be pretty difficult to DIY unless you had some skills. The aluminum poles might be easy to customize, but the plastic pieces are probably injection molded. I'm sure it would be possible...
Yep - moved in fast, already snowing and blowing here.
Haha...I'm looking forward to these days!
The fabric body is 56" wide. Since the struts are 54.5" long, but they're at an angle, the hammock is probably 30-36" high once the system settles.
I like how it works so far, and I think it would work well for a boy scout campout like that. Just depends on how it would work with that length of hammock.
The archery range and fishing areas are still available. For fishing, you need a state license and a base permit, which you can get from Outdoor Recreation. It's only a few bucks, IIRC. Not sure...
To be clear on the USAFA hang, we could meet up Friday at the campground so folks who may have inadequate gear have a car nearby. Saturday could be a day hike for some and an overnighter for the...
It honestly doesn't make a difference to me...I was just offering it up as an option for backup. I get to see this stuff all the time! I'll be happy with whatever the group chooses so we get more...
For a backup, anyone want to consider the campground on the AF Academy? Here are a few benefits:
- It's right off the interstate and the roads are likely to be clean if snow moves in.
- There are...
Updated with first setup! http://www.tothewoods.net/GearTestHandyHammock.html
It's just complicated enough that I had to use the instructions, but I should be able to set it up a second time...
They have a pic of a HH with MacCat on the website so I expect it to at least work. I'll try it with the Blackbird and RidgeRunner, and the MacCat Standard and JRB 10x11 tarp. The only issue I...
Here's my Initial Report of the Handy Hammock stand. First impression - this is a well-executed design that fills an empty niche in the hammock market...a lightweight, low-bulk hammock stand. Not...
Interesting. I don't recall offhand but I think it's on the high end of 25k...I know it's under 26k. Not sure what the rule is when I add the Jeep in tow, though.
We finally got above freezing...
Yep - those answers are what I was thinking. With a biner, the entire hammock/supports setup is in one piece. If you don't have to separate the webbing from the hammock, the chances of leaving the...
Haha - I was thinking about adding an RV section! We'll see...time is in short supply these days.
Haha - thanks for the input! Definitely appreciated. I'm still planning to winterize when I'm well below freezing...when it's hovering around freezing (25+?), I'll take some more chances to have...
Yes - my black and grey tanks are fully exposed, but at least the black one has a tank heater. I didn't see one on the grey tank but I didn't crawl all the way under there. Lining with reflectix is...
So...took a quick trip for a few days. Really didn't do much except learn about the RV. I realized that 1) the cheap RV mattress is actually really comfortable, 2) outside storage is very limited,...
