Go with the XL, the stock tarp is great for light rain but if you get into bad weather the larger tarp is nice to have.

warm waster in a 5 gallon bucket and some dawn soap. Let it soak for a few hours, then sir it up a few min and hang dry.

Nothing will last forever, the cheap tarps from Walmart or lowes sound like your best bet.
That tarp would give good cover.
