Sold to Half-a-Sac pending payment
Hi all,
Due to a combination of issues related to age, weight, and injury I'm retiring from winter camping. I haven't been able to do it in a few years now so I'm selling off some equipment.
...
I'm a side sleeper, and find I can only get really comfortable in an asymmetric. My Blackbird is way easier for me to settle into than my 11' dutch or any other hammock.
Can't believe no one has mentioned Hike the Hudson Valley!
Check out the West of the Hudson hikes. You can sort by difficulty and the views :)

Question for those of you with this bag:
I'm a big guy (aprox 300lb) and I know that there is no way I'd be able to squeeze into that bag using it as it was intended. How well do you think it...
I have both these and the MSR groundhogs. These are a little longer, and not quite as sturdy, but for only $3 for 4 of them, it is hard to beat. I keep a set for my "Spare" tarp.
True.. Though still probably more comfortable than the train seat. If he sat sideways like a chair he'd be pretty much set.
I appreciate the desire for more comfortable mass transit, but is this guy taking it too far?
...
I also weigh a bit over 300lbs, and I have the Atlas straps on one of my hammocks. They are pretty good, no issues with stretching or supporting my weight.
They are pretty adjustable, but my...
I've had the Coghlans dangler for a few months now.. Seems pretty good, except its always 3° too high. Subtract that, and it seems pretty accurate otherwise, at least it is consistent.
Thanks for the comments guys. Yeah, he's definitely a budding outdoorsman.
Had a beautiful day in New York here today, so I took him out for a short hike to one of my favorite places:
...
I'd be down for that, especially on the northern side of the park. I'm only about an hour from there.
I use Zing-It. I like the bright yellow, keeps me from nearly decapitating myself at night. Other folk like Lash-It, same stuff, just not so brightly colored.
Not sure yet. I have a hammock and tarp he can use, but my wife is nervous about him not being right there with me. I've got a Blackbird which is pretty roomy, but I'm a big guy myself and take up...
Thanks for the comments guys! He's been talking about it all day. Can't wait to get out with me again.
So my son has recently expressed an interest in camping with me. He is 5 years old, almost 6. I've been waiting for some nicer weather so we could give it a try in the back yard to see how he likes...
I have the HH as well. I didn't care for the stock tieouts either, and went for a full length ridgeline (zing-it with a dutch hook on one side and a dutch stingerz on the other) running underneath...
Hi all,
I recently completed my underquilts.com full length quilt, but I need some assistance in figuring out how to suspend it properly.
The UQ has four channels, two running the length of the...
Got it from a tactical supply website run by a retired army captain who lives near me. I guess he deals a lot in paracord, and has some pretty great prices on shock cord as well.
...
Received 50' of olive drab 1/8" shock cord today (for only $3.75!) which matches the UQ shell perfectly. So I finally was able to hang it up a little and see how it looks. I'm still waiting on more...
The Equip was my first hammock. For the price it is hard to beat. It is also a good "gateway hammock" for getting your friends interested in hanging. Cheap, durable, easy to set up, and readily...
A topquilt
Cold Steel Trail Hawk
Optimus Crux stove
Bahco Laplander folding saw
Some Platypus bottles
Sawyer Squeeze filter
Got my full length filled finally. Waiting on shock cord to arrive so I can finish the suspension and test it out.
I put 14oz of 850fp in there, should be pretty warm :)
I bought a set of ENO Atlas straps a while back, they came with a very nice little nylon stuff sack which I immediately commandeered for stake duty.
It holds my stakes, the CRL for my tarp, and...
Yeah, my friends and coworkers all thought I was nuts when I told them I was going to the NJ hang. Our low temp for the weekend was something like 3°F, with highs in the lower 20's.
That is a low...
Finally got a chance to hop on here and and give a little update.
First I'd like to thank Iafte and all those involved with the preparations and planning for this event. You guys did a great job...
I know it was already mentioned in the thread but I have to throw my $0.02 in and suggest the hot water bottle. I was at the NJ hang this weekend, first night was down to 5F and I forgot to throw...
I debated quite a while between a Hennessy and a WBBB. I went with the WBBB DL 1.7 and couldn't be happier!
I'll be heading in on Friday. Is there any particular time which this shindig is starting so I can plan on when to arrive?
WBBB and Superfly just showed up in the mail. I'm ready to go!
Looking forward to this, should be arriving Friday afternoon or so.
Does anyone have any idea how many WBBB hammocks there are out there? From what I understand, except for one batch made overseas, they are all hand-made here by Brandon (I assume he has help?)
It...
Nice!
My WBBB is showing up in the mail today, might take a long lunch and wander off into the woods for a bit :)
The method I was thinking of is very similar to this illustration, except has stingerz on both sides. I like the pictured method better, less fiddling around.
Thanks for the input guys. I think I thought up a way to utilize my Dutch StingerZ to make a continuous ridgeline that also allows the tarp to be just as tight as two separate ridgelines. I will...
So my Superfly will be arriving tomorrow, and I'm wondering how most of you hang them?
DO you use a single line ridgeline or just connections on both sides? I ask because in Brandon's setup video...
Picked up 5 yesterday, ranging from 2XLT to 3XLT. Going to try to make a UQ for my son, as I already have a shell and 850fp down coming in for my own quilt.
I'm excited! New Blackbird and Superfly on the way for the hang :)
Now THAT is interesting. I wonder when my wife will notice her scrubbie has gone missing...
Looks interesting, going to try that out! My wife has tons of them.
Thanks guys!
Looks like the skins are the clear winner.
FLRider: Thanks for the link, those Mountaingoat skins look perfect!
Hi All,
I have a Hennessey Hex 70D tarp with a continuous ridgeline utilizing 1.75mm Zing-It and Dutch Stingerz. I want to make it easier to set up and so I'd like to hear opinions on getting...
Got the days off from my boss (work) and my other boss (wife) has given the go ahead as well. So I guess you can move me on over to the confirmed column :)
Looking forward to this, I've never...
Hey this is only a few hours away for me!
I've been wanting to go to a group hang since i got my first hammock. I'm pretty sure I can make this one.
Until I request the time off, put me down...
I too have the 70D Hennessy Hex and love it. I am however, looking at picking up a Superfly as well for winter camping as I think the doors will make a big difference. My only complaint about the...
Excellent, thanks guys!
EDIT: What diameter is commonly used for tarp tensioners, etc..?
I'm in need of shock cord for my tarp tie outs and hopefully for a UQ I want to make. Where is the best place to come by about 25 feet of it?
Thanks!
Well,
Looks like I should have done a couple more minutes of searching before I posted.
A little bit more research turns up the Grip Clips and Dutch's side pull outs.
Think I'm going to give...
So I just purchased a Hennessy Hex tarp in the 70D Polyester. It looks like a fantastic tarp and should do what I need it to do.
The one modification I'd like to make to it is to add some side...
Just got my HH Hex in the mail yesterday. It is huge! Tons of room under there. Seems very well built and durable as well. Can't wait to try it out this weekend.
